Terence Trent D'arby was all but 25 when this recording was made. His stage presence and his persona, even at that age, is nothing short of magnetic.

Rare voice dramatic tenor the power and rasp mixed with a piercing head voice unique talent.

At 16 years years old....many many years ago...I kissed so many girls to his music!....a much better and more innocent time for love and music.. thanks TTD!....

I miss this kind of music.. old songs revived in the 80's ...done with respect and dignity to the original artist...

When we mention names like Micheal and Prince, Terence should have definitely been in that fold. Such an injustice how it all went down. Raw talent at its best.

I love this man's music - always have. He was definitely robbed of the recognition, and everything that came with it, which he undoubtedly deserved.

I watched him on the BBC back in 1987. Full concert. Didn't have a clue who Terence Trent D'Arby was. I was floored. Yes what an underrated talent. Been a fan ever since.

My first year as a Marine I was sent to the Rock(Okinawa).Few months in i borrowed a fellow Marines car one weekend to check out the Island and guess what tape was in the car? :) Listen to his album over and over with the windows down cruising the coast. 1988 was the year.

I think he'd already changed his name to Sananda Matreya, ɓy this performance. I believe that he chose to change his name and leave the country in order to keep his integrity, if possible. It can be a crazy business, and he was constantly being used to destroy other people's egos. If all you want to do is sing, and create, you can imagine how much that would affect someone. So a "here, take it all - I can always create more" attitude makes all kinds of sense to me.

This man is and always has been very talented. He disappeared because he went independent. He changed his name and kissed the industry goodbye. He currently works as an independent artist and is happy with his life, doing what he loves to do. The industry is very hard on folks, and true artists will always have a problem dealing with the industry. I won't say stay away from the industry, but I will say take care in your journey, and keep your eyes and ears open. Don't let them screw you over and have you begging them for their scraps. Fame and fortune is something they make their artists pay dearly for, and quite frankly, it's not always worth it. Stay strong...Stay woke.

I have watched this video for years. Cant get over how amazing his performance is. Sananda should have been great in the music industry...

There are great singers. There are great performers. There are great songwriters and a great many beauties… but an artist tells a story that resonates and captures the hearts of all those listening in the most intimately personal way… THIS IS AN ARTIST.

I was lucky enough to see him in 1988.He was absolutely fantastic..His voice sounded Exactly like his records Pitch Perfect & my my could he move! Gorgeous & very entertaining alongside a band called Roachford..A Concert well worth seeing..

Oh man, I just can't get enough of this man's voice, his musicallity, the funk and the soul. Introducing the hardline was one of the best albums of the eighties, imo. And I still often play it and his more recent stuff, which is also quite good, some of it great. What I really don't understand is why this guy is not famous anymore. He used to be a big time star. So there was a lot of pressure and his second album (Neither fish....) wasn't as good as his first. And of course he 'transitioned' into Sananda. But he is so talented and has made so many great songs, since. He just deserves more recognition, imo.

The original song was soul, written by Smokey Robinson, which he performed it first with his group the Miracles, then him and Barry Gordy gave the song to the Jackson Five, and the rest is history.
