This one is REALLY good. What is your favorite state park in California??

Patrick's Point State Park in Trinidad is my favorite of all the Californian State Parks I've camped in, including San Simeon State Park which is OK, but not the best IMHO. Everyone has different tastes of course. I also think Refugio State Park in the Santa Barbara area is in the top five.

@@benjaminmacconell5556 Waves there depend on the swells coming from storms down south. When it's flat everywhere else, it's flat there too. Surfed there a lot in the 70s. Cardiff Reef and Pipes are the best when the swells up. Water is only warm when hurricanes down south push water towards us. Right now? It's cooler than up here at Bolsa Chica State Beach, my regular go to spot. So waves are not always big, and water is not always warm. I've camped there too, and it's no different that Carlsbad State Beach or Doheny.

I grew up in San Diego going to San Eljio so I’m very familiar. More partial to San Simeon, but I can’t hate on San Elijo or South Carlsbad. Spots are a lot nicer at San Simeon.

@@WhyWeWork I suppose it all matters on one's personal preferences. San Simeon has a campground, and a separate beach which is for day use only. The campground has shaded and grassy campsites and is beautifully landscaped, and the day use beach is quiet with no crowds. San Elijo and S. Carlsbad are large sandy beaches with surfing available, but none of them come close to the beauty of Patrick's Point up in Trinidad; not even close. Not only can you walk down to Agate Beach at Patrick's Point, but surfing is good there with cold water however. The campsites are surrounded by redwoods and coastal forest. No state park, with maybe the exception of the Big Sur area, can compare. Northern California State Parks are strictly in a league of their own. Different strokes for different folks. In addition theft at San Elijo is not uncommon if you are away from your campsite for any length of time.

I'm almost 40 and San Simon is my childhood beach. I live in the Central Valley in California. My great grandfather retired to San Simon in the 70's and when he passed my family kept his little single wide trailer for over 20 years for all of our family to use. Now my family and I go camping with our 1958 Holiday camper that my grandfather gave to me in San Simon camp grounds at least twice a year for a week at a time.

We had had the same thing happen to us coming back from Yosemite. We sprung an oil leak in Fresno. No one would help us, even the Auto club. Finally wound up fixing it ourselves. Not a good way to end a great trip, but loved Yosemite. Thanks for the video!!

We love San Simeon Creek too - the lower area is perfect if you have kids. We like the ones slightly up the hill (not Washburn) as they offer a really nice view! Our Labrador was always sad no dogs on the beach though... Yeah - the wine tasting in Paso is always fun! And hey - you saw a Rpod!

Also, check out the campground hidden back in LOS OSOS CA, tons of trails and bike paths.... just bring MACE (in case of mountain lions). Osos is a huge wildlife estuary but pretty cool lil spot to camp there's a beach access just away from the campground called Spooners cove, no showers but toilets good for trailer camping. Good for kids to ride bikes also..... OH AND SPOONERS COVE NO ROAD NOISE, BUT!!! awesome ocean sound. LOL.

By reservation requests, Doheny State Beach continues its stranglehold as the most in demand SP in the system. I've camped 30+ times at Doheny and a handful of times at San Simeon from which we now live 40 minutes from (just as we used to from Doheny). It's not even close, Doheny in a landslide. Specially when you get water front. I would even put (waterfront) San Elijo State Beach ahead of SS. I/we know our way around Central and So Cal state beach parks through 45 years of camping (in many formats). Regardless, kudos to you for getting out there and giving everything a whirl. It always beats couch surfing.

Reminds me of New Brighton State Park. Not gonna mention here though the actual best State Park, it's already too crowded. That one I've camped at hundreds and hundreds of times. Use to be in the off season hardly anyone was there, it was great. Now its mostly crowded year round but still very quite and chill campgrounds. The best showers of any park ive been to also. What really bothers me most is it use to be a nominal fee but now it's the cost of a good motel room. Which sucks. Camping should always be a nominal fee, especially in a rich state like California. Cali can certainly afford it

Be careful around the Morro Bay campground and from Pismo Beach to Hearst Castle ...a few of the Calif State Park Rangers are overly aggressive , The campground is open 24 hours I was stopped by Ranger " B . E " as I drove into the campground in the early morning. He took 15 mins to run my drivers license and registration then he wrote me a $100 dollar ticket for " Non payment of camping fees " I explained to him he watched me drive into the park 15 mins ago and the normal procedure is find a empty space then write the space number on the after hours envelope then deposit that in the " Iron Ranger " or take your spot then wait till morning when the gate booth is open for payment by debit or credit card. And that is the job of the Campground host to tell people that at 7 am. that have not paid. Then he proceeded to ban me from the campground for 24 hours. While I was leaving I stopped at the gate pay booth to read the rules he pulled up on me again as I stood there and told me to get away from there I was banned from the park for 24 hours. My court date is written 4 months away from now for Grover Beach Court off Grand Ave. This seems way out of line to me I had done nothing wrong and was doing as any person wanting to go camp would do. So I would say to you be very careful but then again I had done nothing wrong...For those from out of town I don't think you would come back from your home town to pay for his overly aggressive ticket writing. I write this here to hopefully keep him from becoming more aggressive and maybe hurting someone or bringing a huge lawsuit against the City of Morro Bay . Calif State Park Ranger " K " is not far removed in her aggressive ticket writing ......anyone else have this problem ?
