The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is a complex of bridges of spanning San Francisco Bay between the cities of San Francisco and Oakland. The bridge has two sections of roughly equal length; the older western section connects downtown San Francisco to Yerba Buenw Island and the New ramp.
During the October 17 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, a portion of the Eastern Section's under deck and the bridge was closed for a month.
