we dont have these in sac even though there are two airforce bases here and the state capital is here they still dont have them and i have never gone through a air raid drill my old elementary school had a siren on the roof but it was never tested

I have been to San Francisco twice and both times I heard that siren. It kind of scared me at first but I keep wondering what emergency they are for. Are they part of the early warning system for earthquakes? Are they for tsunamis? Are they for an attacking on the the city, terrorist or otherwise?

@@denismarriott1333 You won't hear them go off during their regular test every Tuesday at noon. SFDEM deactivated all 119 Outdoor Warning Sirens in 2019 due to radio activation vulnerability issues. However, they will sound again next year as SFDEM plans to replace all 119 sirens to improve coverage, fix the vulnerability issues, and enhance ease of maintenance.

STL-10 sound cards still there, and the intake mount is still there…. Memories

That's the clearest voice I've ever heard out of one of these speaker sirens. Usually they're worse than a fast food drive-thru.

Usually pre-recorded messages come through better than live audio feed, so sometimes when u hear live audio feed it sounds like garbage. Same with an ati.

San Francisco has 111 sirens.

I can't find the siren Tuesday because I was using Google maps and not found

Most likely about 7500 people shit their pants before hearing the "This is a test" section.

Poor tourists who don't know it's a test at first. Or those that don't understand English.

I didn't know San Francisco had Tornadoes.

so basically, they removed STH-10 sirens and then replaced them with sirens that are WAAAAAAAY quieter only to put the recording of an STH-10 onto the speaker siren. What a slap in the face.

There must have been an old siren here, that's an old federal signal mount this is sitting on. I also find it interesting that the horns facing away from the camera face right into a building

@@denismarriott1333 it was already cheap enough using the siren brand they chose. But I guess it does leave a little bit of history with it. the one at the ferry building actually is still remaining if you look behind the front set of speaker raise you'll see the old siren horn

@Droideka133 Not necesarily too stupid. There are alternatives such as the EBS.

Looks like that is my favorite type of ATI, the HPSS 32. Although, ATIs are usually my least favorite. I like the HPSS 32 because it is decently loud, and louder than the HPSS 16s or 16Rs. The HPSS 16r is the one u hate the most. It only has 2 drivers and is quiet. Even the Modulator 2008, with 2 drivers, is louder!

@@aloprax right. Hawesville, KY has a lot of those wonky ATIs. They do the tone in 4 directions, instead of rotating while sounding. That is just...no. At least the HPSS 32 is better. It is as loud as the ASC EC-8 (118 dB at 100 feet), mainly because it has the same construction. It also can cary far, which is about as much as a whelen. I know some HPSS 16Rs are reprogrammed and actually rotate while sounding

damn it, I hate that siren. When I lived there...ugh. Sounded like a fucking tornado would strike.

Wow, I like how they kept the original tripod stand and intake tube for the STL-10 that siren replaced. That is the worst quality siren/speaker ever built. What a shame they replaced the good ol' reliable mechanicals with this lousy shit!

No doubt they have one of the worst siren systems in the nation. Listen to that ear splitting screech before it plays the siren noise!
