San Diego Sea Glass and Quartz hunt! | California Beach Treasures!
What a treat to hunt for sea glass and rocks on the California Coast. We traveled to California to visit our sons and help with home projects. Of course, it wouldn't be a coastal trip for me without a day at the beach!

Thanks Mike - I never thought about and LED light in the jar! The jar is full of water... should I use the light with dry rocks or get a waterproof light? 😊

@@TravelingTreasureFinder I never thought of water but color does pop when wet,...Id go with dry but outdoor lights are water resistant ive used outdoor Christmas lights but there are other options for just a few lights ,...maybe even a few lights with a small solar panel on the lid I use a small powerful keychain mag flashlight held right up to stones i believe opalesce to show that they are I use the white Christmas lights that dont heat up while running as under cabinet lighting,..mainly in the garage but I just havent done it in the house yet Mike
Have really missed your Adventures 😊

Yes, it's a hag stone. If there is a hole all the way through it's a Hag stone

You are welcome! I typically use my DJI Osmo Action camera for most of my shots. I also sometimes just use my phone if it is not around waves etc. Thank you for watching!😊
Hi there! These are some really amazing finds! I live in California, specifically La Mesa and I'm new to the rockhounding hobby. I can't find much information online regarding where I can find neat rocks in my area and I'm wondering if you could help me out! Do you have any recommendations for locations? I much prefer finding them in or nearby water, but all I can find online are mines 😵

Hi! You live really near where my son lives! If I were you I would drive out to Torrey Pines State Park. There are tons of rocks on that beach and all up the coast to the north. It isn't far from La Mesa and it is absolutely beautiful there! Be careful though, they just had a rock slide on the beach recently. Good luck and let me know how you do!

The deserts and mountains are where you want to be. The Southern California deserts are some of the best places to rockhound in the US. Lots of jasper, agates, quarts, opals and many others.. Our local mountains are also known for gemstones. Lots of nice garnets, beryl, tourmaline and quartz. Most forest land and blm land is okay for rockhounding. If you are going to be digging or using a pick make sure you are not one someone's claim. Closed gold claims that have tailing in areas that are known to have gem stones can be productive as their equipment was designed to catch gold not gems, and the ones they did catch were most likely discarded into the tailings. Southern California is a rockhounds dream.
We love looking for treasure on our beaches! We are from the Washington coast!

Is it ok to keep rocks and shells you find on beaches in California?
@TravelingTreasureFinder
Жыл бұрын
That is a great question! I would say the answer is "it depends". Some places it is ok and other places it is a hard NO! Especially state and national parks. I try to research the rules before I go and if I forget ahead of time, I look for signage and/or a park ranger. It is never ok to take live shells, but I typically don't find very many shells in California anyway. 😊
What beach is this?

Torrey Pines and north towards Del Mar😊
Clean them with water and Clorox
