Luka was phenomenal but I really love what this Spurs core looks like. They will have growing pains in the clutch but their offense overall looks classic Spurs with all the motion and making the extra pass. Only real concern is their rebounding and overall defense but Victor should help with that when he’s on the floor. This will be a fun team to watch and will be in a lot of games.

Note how unselfish Kyrie is (not only now, of course, but very notably since the day 1with the Mavs), a really team player, being a great finisher he passes the ball whenever he sees a teammate in at least a bit better position or movement. Very much unlike Luka, who would pass only if he is stuck with the ball and blocked from shooting it

It's easy to defeat your ruval when you have considerably more experience. Luka is a solid regular season guy but his post season record is sub par below 500 zi believe. Irving has been in the league a long while but before this tandem is heralded as the best in the league let's see where Mavs are after 20 30 50 games Regardless of the mistakes Wemby made the Spurs where right there and they battled by far the older Mavericks Their defensive lapses can be corrected and improved upon. As Spurs fan I anticipated Wemby would be in early foul trouble which effectively neutralized any contribution he might have made It reminded me how Kareem was treated his rookie season And he turned put to be one of the best to ever play I believe the Spurs will be better than any one had anticipated. Winning one game does not a season make Spurs will improve over the long haul but will the Mavs rest on their opening day win?

Mavs played kinda well overall (except for 1st quarter defense), but this was just the Spurs (practically without Wemby), so it shouldn't have gone down to the wire. Very hard to imagine them beating the Suns or the Nuggets in a playoff series, even if Luka and Kyrie go beserk. At the end of the day the team is basically them plus some inconsistent randos, as per usual. Grant Williams and Lively look like promising additions (glad I didn't have to see Dwight Powell's face tonight), but Mavs have a lot to show before they can be considered a competitive team in the West.

Victor Wembanyama is one of the most intriguing prospects I've ever seen enter the league, thanks to his incredible size, length, mobility and awesome skill level. He is a point guard's dream as a lob catcher, having the ability to reach highs that few players can. Has good footwork in the post but his special power comes From his defensive anchor potential, as well as the ability to slide his feet away from the basket. He should serve as a major asset in pick-and-roll coverage. Kid is going to be the next face of the league.

We're all assuming that Pop wasn't making the calls here. My view on the game was that by Wemby posting up it opened the court for the rest of the team. They have to learn how to play in both ways. Wemby had a great 4th quarter but definitely got himself in foul trouble which made things hard. The first half the Spurs were doing fine, even without getting the ball to Wemby in the post. We started to drop off once we got in foul trouble. We were +/- 0 points with Wemby on the court. When Osman had to start filling in I think we dropped off a bit. We'll learn from this. Less fouls lads!
