Honestly speaking, i love watching these videos with weapon fights, not only for the educational reasons, but also because of the FEELING. I can imagine myself or someone i know fighting. I don't see it as rainbows and sunshine (it's a battlefield, obviously) but i love that feeling that makes you wonder "What would it be like if this happened?". It gives a good food for thought. I always say, people who watch don't always feel, but people who experience something FEEL it too. And that's why weapon fights fascinate me, not just because of the fights, but because i always wonder how do these people feel, what goes through their heads, and so on. (Sorry if i am not clear. Cool video in short!)

Samurai did a good job considering the disadvantage his equipment has. Maybe if he had a Yari or the Nodachi was a bit larger the matchup would seem more fair. Putting that aside, quite a fun activity to watch

Thanks for watching! We did start out with yari vs halberd but since the yari is made of metal it is still way too dangerous to spar with, so we stopped and switched to nodachi. Im getting a naginata soon, will be a much better match for the halberd 😁

It looks like he is doing a lot better than he would be in a real fight because he's making contact. That nodachi wouldn't do shit against the armor the opponent is wearing the way he is using it though. He's using it like he's against a completely unarmored opponent. But that also shows how unrealistic this is because this would quickly turn into a grounded grapple fight if the samurai wanted any chance of winning.

@@ickyfistif we go by that logic then all buhurt or profight fights are unrealistic. An armored fight will almost always (with the exception of really lucky hits) devolve into a wrestling/grappling match with daggers, which would make it less fun. Might as well just do BJJ in armor and save the trouble with the weapons.

@@Dalaran1991 That's not really true though because the halberd would be effective against the samurai. The point is that this is more one-sided than it looks, not that they should be grappling.

​@@ickyfist No, even with a halberd or poleaxe, it ends up becoming a grappling match. Sure, you could land a clean hit causing blunt damage, but more than likely any blow will be blocked and the halberd/poleaxe will just be used as a hook for grappling and taking them down. The nodachi will more than likely be used to successfully block any halberd/poleaxe blows which again just leads to grappling.

Hmmm,wouldn't be more fair to put swords against swords and polearms against polearms if you want fair comparison?Like nodachi vs gratsword or naginata/yari vs halberd?

We did do a yari vs halberd but it was too dangerous so we had to stop. The yari easily slipped inside the gaps in the armor. Just go to show while spear was king

We ll upload the yari vs halberd vid, though the way we practice it s hard to say if it's a "win". A halberd can crush through armor if it hits with full force, but obviously we cant do full swings for safety reason. We do have a vid of greatsword vs chinese sword-mace, check it out!
