I've watched almost all of you videos and just want to express my appreciation. I can't imagine what possesses you to take the time to do it but I'm very grateful. With a couple of exceptions, other "repair" videos are just kitchen table attempts with no real knowledge of what they're doing. As a fairly experienced amateur tech involved primarily with audio amps, your clear explanations of tv repair is a real pleasure to watch. I've learned a great deal. Thank you.

Wow good observation, the diode is for reverse polarity protection of the power supply. The resistor is for charging batteries at high currents, it makes it easier to adjust the current, I set the current to a trip level of 1 Amp then set the actual output level just below that and when the battery reaches the 100 % level the current climbs to the trip level and the supply voltage it cut off. That way I can charge the cordless drill I use as a screwdriver from 0 % to full in just over an hour.

very good video. I knew the issue was the Y main board but instead of buying a whole board, your video allowed me to quickly test these and I had the exact same issue which I could quickly fix. The 36v reverse bias measurement of the zener allowed me to blindly by the diodes for 1€ total! saved lots of time and so seems that this is a weakness of these models. Now why this happened, I should probably find the board schematic to find out the root cause of this problem!

Wow. Love that you repaired the board, Most of the time those IPM's go but you did really well! Only suggestion i have is that i would not use one of the AV jacks as a ground reference for measurements, Id personally avoid using anything measurement wise that goes through the main board grounding system due to low voltage components that the meter ground have to travel through to get to the actual ground the power supply provides. I recommend far more to use the PDP panel ground as a reference. Since the main ultimately grounds itself to the frame anyways, that is the preferable place as a central for everything.

norcal715, I have this same HPS5053 and the power comes on (blue LED is steady) and there is no picture on the screen. However, when I measure the VS and VA on the power board they are both at 0V. I measured them the same you as displayed in the video at 0:42 - 1:42. How can I determine if the power supply board is bad or other components within the system? Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks Jim. The fours diode burn pretty bad to the board. I figure it is not repairable. I ordered a used board, and I noticed that the used PCB only use 2 zener diodes instead of 4. Someone connect the diodes in series by solder only the first anode and the last cathode together with two diode. I looked at my old board and see that the first and the last can be use to solder. I will try to repair it again. I wonder if I only use 2 diode connect in series, what diode would I use 72V, 72V?.

I have identical TV and problem. Troubleshot EXACTLY like you did, got al the same results. Vs and Va voltage were fine. Checked Y-sus and had low resistance at exact same points. Disconnected y-buffers and got SAME values as you. I didn't want to un-solder diodes, so ordered y-buffers and y-sustain. I put then in, and still not fixed. Troubleshot exact same way again with the new parts, and got the EXACT same results as old parts and your video. What now? Is it possible the y-sus board they sent was bad? Funny though, no signs of heat on either board and get EXACT same readings, no matter which parts are in there.... Any help would be great...

Try using some sandpaper to sand down the surface until its bare shining metal. You may have to use a slightly oversize screw to grab with metal if the thread was damaged. Make sure the screw you use is not too long so it does not damage the back of the plasma glass

I see no other damage, and have checked for shorts between the y-main and buffers (no shorts) my VS is reading 458v (should be 207v) and VA is 140v (should be 63v). I'm not sure where to go from here. Thank you for your time.

I have the exact same problem: ZD5018, 19, 21, 22 burned. After replacement as instructed with your video, it still will not show picture. The Vscan (-190V) will come alive and then shutdown in about a second. It's the same even with the Upper and Lower Y-buffer board disconnected from the Y-Main board. If the ribbon cable at Y-main board is disconnected, Vscan is healthy -190. I can draw a few mA from Vscan with a small load resistor to verify the power supply. Any hints?

Have been following you for some time and love your videos. I am new to plasma TV repair and have approached a road block. I have a Samsung HP-R5052X plasma with no picture and great sound. I had confirmed that the x board had a blown fuse and also confirmed a dead short. I have replaced it but still have the same problem. Y board had major buzzing and replaced that also. Still no picture. I checked the y buffer boards and all seem to be ok. I am assuming my problem now is with the main logic board. Is there a way of checking this board to confirm one is needed and if so how? Whatever help you could give me would be appreciated. Regards Jim

It seems they used poor quality diodes and capacitors for these TVs. I just recieved one for free off facebook and it has a leaky cap on the y board. Here I am $5 later (3 good quality caps) and it works like new. I'll be sure to remember this video if the picture cuts out.

Hello there, I am wondering if you can help me. this one have got me, wondering what is wrong. I have a Samsung plasma PS51D550C1MXXY. At the start I had a problem with the X-sus board I replaced it, then there was no power ( no Vs power or Va) I have replaced the logic, main and power supply but has not fixed the problem. The standby light is red and flashes at a rate of two flashes. I have fixed a few Tv's but this one has stumped me.

you cant see NOTHING? I cannot see nothing when nothing is there. The problem here is; what does nothing look like so it can be recognized?
