I'd be interested in seeing you do a video or two where you talk about your best, worst and funniest customers, stories and repairs over your years of working in the field. Hearing such experiences is entertaining but can also be educational, and I'm sure you have some great stories to tell. Keep up the great work.

@@12voltvids Bet you've seen some great cases of customer stupidity though. And finding faults with equipment where the customer has obviously lied about the cause (blown speakers and the like). I always found it interesting when I worked as a computer tech to hear the excuses a customer would give for a fault they caused, the most common probably being pirate software or frequent access to porn sites causing malware. Inevitably they'd blame the hardware, the operating system or a previous technician, and be in complete denial of their fault until proven otherwise.

@@ashleycox432 Yup lots of that. Blown speakers, teenagers having a party when folks away in Hawaii. Funniest one was a cordless phone that came in all melted. He had a fire on his stove and the phone melted and the guy thought his 100 cordless phone was under warranty and started crying like a spoiled child when he was told too bad so sad, not warranty. Warranty does not cover fire damage. This was a guy I am going to guess was in his early 30s

17:09 There's an exception to that. The AG-4700 had decent heads, most AG- series machines had soft heads which wore out badly. It's a slightly modified version of the high-end domestic NV-HS1000. PAL recording, NTSC and PAL playback, includes a TBC. It's PAL-M which is closer to NTSC than PAL. Not many machines handle that. I'm still very much doing audio and video transfers. I usually don't charge extra for running NTSC tapes despite being in UK. I capture in the same line/frame rate as original tape rather than convert to PAL, to keep the quality as high as possible. Plenty of work still out there.

At school we had two "editing" sets ... Panasonics ... kinda NV-100 or something similar with basic efects and titler and those were PAL-B units while here we use PAL-N. I recall they used Trasconverter boxes and those were really expensive (year 92). So this unit will do the same for any of the ouput systems .... ? A real nice feature to built in on a home VCR sure it most be like 10 years laterl otherwise would have been stupid expensive. Ohhhh the Panasonics. Never get used to them, we manage to do some cut and splices with the controls .... and that all we wrote. What really love is the ultra fine low with the jog, what a precision machine, almost frame by frame, "perfect" still. We had a so called teacher to do editing on this system ... guess what ?. She had no clue !!!!!. We have a small "radio" set on the other desk with a mixer and people tend to take RCA cables from this Panasnics to use in audio and then the system would be inoperational for weeks, no one could figure out, and we were not allow to mess with it. Im not sure if they were SVHS machines, almost sure they have HIFI FM track.

I still actively use the NV-FS200, which is a version of AG1980. I bought it as a non-functional unit from Ebay and managed to get it working. However, the design is just terrible and makes for a very unpleasant repair experience. Nowadays it still works fine and when it dies, i will switch to my Sony SLV-E1000. Much simpler design, relatively easy to fix. And in my opinion it also gives a prettier picture. The colors are much more vivid.

Yes, the NV-FS88/ 90/ 1/ 100/ 200 all had that ceramic thick-film unit with the four SMD caps that would leak, causing no S-VHS playback. The 1uf start-up cap in the PSU primary was also a common failure point, usually after a power cut..

Sometimes it is simply too much work. Here in the Czech Republic the lack of S-VHS playback isn't much of an issue (I can't even test it) because the tapes were too costly and never spread among users. Literally no one used these.

Once had the previous Samsung model (SV3000 or something, forgot the name). The chassis seems beefier than this and it runs fine as multi-system vcr. Unfortunately its conversion circuit had went south so it can't be used for system conversion at all. I also have that AIWA vcr (MX100?) it did convert anything to anything, but really with mediocre quality at best. Later got a no-name standalone video converter for 1$ from a garage sale...and it beats AIWA by miles. For me, any system converter vcr does not deserve any premium value anymore. Just find yourself a multi-system vcr and capture in its native signal and boom, job done.

So for pal n the vertical frequency is adjusted (vertical hold on older tvs but new ones have a count down oscillator so it will result in a rolling picture. The differences is the broadcast carrier and color subcarriers. Most pal broadcasts used a 4.43 subcarriers. The sound carrier was also different. There were 21 broadcast standards around the world. I have a tv that will accept any of them and on the av input it will accept pal 4.43, pal 3.58, SECAM, NTSC 3.58 and NTSC 4.43. SECAM is SECAM, or so you would think but there are 2 recorded formats for SECAM. French SECAM and middle easy SECAM used by the east block, Greece ect. Color under for pal and NTSC both used 629khz. On up convert it goes to either 3.58 or 4.43 depending on the VCR and tv requirement. Obviously we only have NTSC here. I have never worked on pal equipment and never will. Saw a couple of multi system sets. When i was doing tape conversion all i cared about was which country it was going to so i could encode to either pal, french SECAM or mesecam. I have a SECAM tape here somewhere that i could run through that Samsung before it goes back because my aiwa won't do it.
