Samsung Soundbar ticks 6 times and shuts off

Ғылым және технология

I thought this one was going to play "Back in Black" as soon as I pressed the power button.

You are so much smarter than I am. I am a 54 year old electronics technician who cannot keep up with modern technology, such as with these sound bars and TVs that require programming. I like the old days of CRT TVs and electronics with potentiometers for volume, etc. Frank Frank Reiser Video/Audio Service.

It just gets worse and worse, appliances that forget what they are. Unfortunately, they will probably yank that software off the net after a few years.

Firmware updates can fix some issues and introduce new ones or kill the item for good. My Samsung TV never worked as it should from new, after waiting months for an update only for the update to stop the set turning on again. I returned it to the store, only for the salesman to say "ohh no not another one"! Turns out that series of sets had multiple issues, and Samsung were just replacing them with an updated model. The recycling sites must be full of these sets that are never any good from new. Give me a good old CRT TV, without all these firmware issues.

Back in the eighties when VCRs were common, my friend had a service shop. He had a technician from Taiwan who would find many problems by by feeling components for excessive heat! Talk about hi-tech!

You lucked out with this one! I had a couple customers bring me LG and Sony soundbars with issues like this. A software update worked initially, but I ended up finding some caps that were beginning to go south. I hate how they use glue and foam everywhere, but what can you do?

@@12voltvids I think you will be fine with this one. All the ones I worked with had standard radial caps, this one appears to be all SMD, I haven't had too many problems with those.

Ah, good find! For benefit of you & your other viewers, I had nearly the EXACT same thing happen on my new-ish Sony TV when attempting a "recommended" upgrade. While I was using an on-line upgrade, rather than USB-based, the upgrade HUNG for 20 hours, and Sony had no idea why. They were going to send a replacement (I was still just under warranty). THEN, I found a USB stick was plugged in which I was using only for media (not upgrade). Unplugged the USB, and the upgrade completed fully in a few minutes! I've informed Sony about their help-desk's lack of understanding on the matter. Needless to say, from a computer perspective, this issue is about boot preference/priority, not just which file(s) are present on a present USB device.

Actually in the case of the update files the processor will not update if it sees anything other than the bin file for the update. If you put a subfolder in even if it's empty it will not update if you put a blank file in with no information on just a text file with nothing in it it won't update. I've updated many receivers and TVs and when you update the only file that can be on the USB stick is the update. If you're doing it over the air update you're right you can have any media plugged in or it will fail.

My soundbar has worked perfectly since new, suddenly, a couple weeks ago, it started malfunctioning. I noticed it would be off, and the display would blink on; displaying “Shop”? Then, the sb would go to “Volmin” when we were watching. No firmware updates. No help from Samsung. I’m thinking it’s “designed” obsolescence?

Thanks . Do u ever use a mini disc cleaning disc. Is it best to open it up and clean laser. Not sure how to clean the magnetic writing head or if neccesary. I have a c13 read error and wanted to rule out dusty lens. Can't get cleaning disks in new Zealand I heard just blowing compressed air through disc door can sometimes work

Never heard of minidisk cleaning disk. Mag head is fragile, but only in contact during record. Laser lens can get dusty, but smoke is the big killer. If the unit has been in a room that permits smoking or vaping, there is a good chance that internal optics that you can not clean is contaminated.

Never had much interest in soundbars... I guess they're useful if you don't have much space or don't want to run speaker wires but my ancient Aiwa home cinema receiver and the cheapo 'home theatre in a box' setup in my basement both sound eons better than any soundbar I've ever heard.
