So my soundbar manufacturer is now in the habit of putting many improvements behind a software update they could probably give me for free, but instead will only give me if I pay another couple grand for those minimal improvements, thus making them now much like my graphics card manufacturer restricting some driver improvements to their latest gen. cards. I'm starting to see the future of electronics in general.... ;)

Apple on the same boat here. I have the Q990C and its 99% the same as the Q990D. "Took them a year" to add full HDMI 2.1, which couldve been added easily to the Q990C.

@@MorganReidguitar Well, that's one way of looking at it, but the problem is that even it could maybe sound better if they didn't reserve some of the software improvements for whatever the next higher up model is. ;)

Your reviews helped me settle on a Q990B, I didn't feel like I missed out when the C released, but the Frames could tempt me to upgrade eventually.

I love the idea of the frames - as much as I want the best audio experience, I don't want to turn my living room into a sea of bulky black electronics - however it seems it's just not there yet. Hopefully Samsung implement this further throughout the year!

I think it would make a difference but my expectation is that there will be a significant change in 25 … five years after the t and halfway through the decade. Waiting would allow you to find the D for cheaper or choose to get a potential maaaajor step up. My thoughts. Or you can adopt my strategy and buy everything (not recommended)

On the Q900c with the SWA-9500S addon speakers, Samsung appears to have removed the option for surround speaker mode selection (front/rear) in the app. It used to be there before v1004 firmware update. The Q900c has the same soundbar & subwoofer as the Q990c from looking at the specs.

Excellent review!!! Can you purchase the surroundsound speakers separately for the C or D and use them for 2 front channels?? One huge downside is the hdmi ports, they are on the side of the cut out and you have to bend the hdmi cables in a bad way in order to get the wires to go in the proper place. Samsung should’ve moved the port so the hdmi wires go straight out the back

First off, thanks for at least reviewing it. A lot of other reviewers seem to think "well it's just a letter difference it'll be exactly the same system and therefore let's not review it at all". So kudos to you. My wife and I are looking for a new home theater setup at some point in the future and as money is tight sometimes(we have a ton of kids) we'll save up for something really nice. The question is always is it worth the price, or is something that's really good and cheaper better. So in your opinion is the Samsung q990d the better option than spending much more on something like this new Sony Bravia quad? I'm a gamer also so of course I had a hard time seeing the 990 c as an option but now that they've changed it the question is whether or not to go with something like Sony's quad for their HTA 7000 with rear speakers or is the tech even getting good enough that we can go down in price to something like the new Klipsch Flexus200. I realize in general if you pay more you usually get more but the question is, is it worth a $1000 or $1500 difference. Man do I get tired of hearing reviewers say inflation has gone up so stop griping about the price as though that's supposed to make it more affordable. Anyway any of your thoughts on this are appreciated

I had JBL 9.1 soundbar a recently i bought 990c. Short version: bass better in jbl, atmos in 990c

Bought the D Last week! AWESOME ! Just need a 65' Samsung Tv that I can use Q-Symphony.

I think standard mode is all sound bars need, as some others lose the centre and muddle direction. Q symphony is still not much for the 600b. Still think a second sub addition would be good for the people wanting to pay for flagship, and 8k cables definitely make a difference with eArc connection. Great comparisons 🙃

By the way I can confirmed from another link video that shows the audio board on the C of last year is the board in the D. So as far as improvement there has no changed at all regarding sub on the latest model for 2024.

Have you had a chance to listen to the Sony Bar 9 theater system? At this time what system would you recommend for a small home theater?

Thank you for your reviews, you may be the most honest reviewer on yt. I own the 990c, and personally, i think it sucks. Yes, it generally sounds ok, im talking with movies, but most people will be using these for music as well, and in that respect, i dont find it to be any better than an inexpensive Vizio. The thing that completely ruins this thing is the subwoofer. At lower volume it doesn't even exist. Once you get to 12 or more in volume, it seems to switch on, ank kick in. Its as if its governed by the firmware, instead of being allowed to do its thing, and be subwoofer. I akso own the Vizio elevate p514a-h6 5.1.4, and honestly, it has a MUCH better overall sound, and at less than half the price of the Samsung. Anyway, just my 2 cents. I think the 990c is the most over hyped product on yt, it should be in the clearance bin, not the center stage.

It’s not a stellar music machine … but I am not on board that Vizio is better. I might be sympathetic if someone said the Polk max ax sr sounded better. I’ve also gotten really mixed messages about the importance of music. Many people have called me bad names for even talking about these as music machines and others say they use it mostly for music. Appreciate the comment!

Have you seen a feature in advanced settings called VIRTUAL? not sure how it impacts sound when surround/adaptive is on. seems like it doesn’t do anything. It showed up when I updated firmware on the D

I've had the Q950A with a QN90A for about 3 years now. I wasn't impressed with the Q-symphony feature at all, but I'm not much of an audiophile either. I think the surround sound in movies is great, but music listening is pretty weak compared to my older, much cheaper Visio sound bar system. I'm strongly considering getting a Nakamichi Dragon after my next TV upgrade.

What are your thoughts on QSymphony TV? I have the q990c and the s95c, and while I see a difference when Symphony is activated, I'm not sure if it's better. The sound is like more expansive, but I feel that I lose some of the Atmos experience and some bass.

I find it’s a better fit sound wise on smaller systems … I wouldn’t necessarily buy a tv for the specific purpose but definitely try it out if you have the opportunity. You’re gonna be the best one to decide whether it’s something you like.

I have a2022 Samsung tv S95B and just purchased the 990D I realized S95B only output adaptive sound+ not space Fit sound pro my question is there a major difference between the two before I upgrade my tv to a 2024?

I'm thinking of buying the 990D or Sonos Arc, Sub, 2 300 Eras. What is the best choice for me? I have a Samsung TV. As I understand it, the 990D is the best choice if it wants to be used purely for the TV and gaming. And Sonos when I'm also concerned with music?

I switched from the HW-Q950T to a new 990C (850 euros). A really good exchange BUT what Samsung could really score points with is if they made the whole system modular. Buy the sound bar for say 600 euros / dollar, buy the package with sub and 2 surrounds for 1000 euros / dollar AND THEN you can buy additional surrounds for the sides or front wide. The soundbar works very well but sometimes I wish there was an optional pair for the sides. If the sound bar recognizes that you have added two more speakers, new settings etc. will appear. Yes it would reduce the simplicity of the system somewhat but this would only be optional

@@matsthunblad The connection is better, the sound is better, the design is better. Add to that. 2 additional speakers in the rears. A much better product for me.

So happy with Sonos when I hear that restrictions from Samsung. Waiting for Arc 2 or however they will call that new Gen Soundbar they promised.

this "D" model should have 2 subs. I'm happy with my "C" since Im using HUE HDMI sync box and gradient light strip combo with S90C

Hey Daniel! This is a different question, I recently got the Bose 900 sound bar WITHOUT the sub nd the surrounds. I ran the adaptiq. . I turned it on and found out that doing so turns the base way down, although improving the overall sound. Even increasing the base to +70 when adaptiq is ON doesn't really gives the base that I was getting when adaptiq was turned off with just +30 on base. Ran the adaptiq 2-3 times. same result..it's a normal 200 sizet medium sized bedroom. Turning off adaptiq brings backs the base but detoriates the sound. I have read on reddit too that even with sub connected too and running adaptiq just quietens the system and base goes down. I am not a base head

Waiting this out. Based on the fact that they barely made any actual upgrades this year I’m sure they’re going to completely redesign for the next model.

I love my Q990C but have not been able to figure out how to get it to work well with my Sony tv. If I pause Netflix (for example), the sound quits working. I have to cycle through the tv inputs (switch hdmi 1 to hdmi 2 and then back to hdmi 1) for it to start working again... Any thoughts? Love your videos!

I never cared too much for subwoofers that came packaged with the soundbar or made to accompany the soundbar sold separately except for the sonos subwoofer and modular 700 for bose. But the soundbars with sub out inputs make it nice when paired with a wired subwoofer like the sennheiser ambeo and the new klipsch flexus core 200 that i got.

I'd just like to ask, the difference between the C and D is primarily the HDMI 2.1 passthrough for gaming consoles, What benefit does it offer when I can just connect a PS5 to the TV via eArc and the Q990C to the TV via optical?

The color of the lighter grey works for me as my rear speakers are by a dark grey wall that match pretty well. On a technical note, the audio in your video is odd, it's like it has 2 audio tracks going off from different sources slightly off and it sounds robotic

Subscribed! Question, I’ve been planning on getting the Q990C since I returned my stereo HomePods Gen 2 because of way too many problems. I don’t have space to put the rear speakers behind me. Do you think the set up of just having the sound bar and bass on would be good for movies in my small apartment with low ceiling? ​@@jeffhardy3xYou can put behind speakers to sides not big deal or wall mounting is good solution, only problem you will deal with this is your neighbors. You won't able to go over 40 and specially for true hd movies it's just too much going over 30 talking for adaptive mode btw.

I heard JBL 1000 and it is really bad soundbar compared to Samsung 990C and even 930c was better. You will not hear any details in JBL. If you want listen to music buy active 2.0 speakers. Like Klipsch five, seventh or SVS speakers. That will be much better choice for music even Nakamichi Soundbar.

I prefer adaptive sound, AVA active, The rear levels slightly elevated and woofer level between 0-2 … I typically don’t mess with the EQ

If you really treasure bass go with the JBL.

Currently it's on offer in the UAE you can get it for around 950 USD, question is if i have a sony bravia TV in a small home theater is it a good option Or i go for the new sony sound bar 9 with the sub Or i break the piggy bank go for an old school wired system [ Note i have the wiring already done and have a five year old Harman System, but never ever was able to set it up properly ]

Just the bar is pretty solid - Ive dealt with lag with just about every soundbar at some point but I don’t recall that being an issue in testing

Oh well, my dream of widening soundstage with music frames was smashed to tiny jagged pieces by you and Samsung (you mostly). I doubt 2025 model would see substantial improvement unless Samsung does the smart thing (get it?) and let soundbar handle the frames as two extra speakers as an alternative to a TV trying to juggle both the frames and soundbar at the same time. That would also open possibilities for people who are too poor to purchase the latest Samsung flagship TV to enjoy music frames. But maybe, just maybe Samsung would decide to release a brand new modular soundbar system instead of Q990e iteration and would up it’s game to support more then three wireless components, by allowing at least right and left main channels to be physically separated from the bar and placed where they belong - to the sides of the TV. And yes, upgrading the sub to either dual setup or a bigger woofer. I can dream too.

I personally think that Sony should have released a brand new sub that matches the quad, but Sony is az lazy as usual when it comes to renewing their products especially when it comes to speakers and sound bars. I really disliked the SW5 sub when I heard the demo in the store, even the Sony wired Sub SACS9 sounds better than that for half the price or sometimes can be had for $150 when it is on sale.

Sub is the exact same as the 990C

But can you play games at 4K 120hz or VRR with the 990C? Or do you really need the 990D to play at that rate?

Need the D - if your plugging into the bar - otherwise plug into a newer 4k/120 VRR TV

With video games you probably want to plug direct into the tv if you can as the video is most important … but no there should not be any sound latencies but regardless of where you plug in there are sometimes latencies between video and audio … that is why every tv and soundbar you have has AV sync controls

Disappointed we're not getting more from this soundbar setup. I put off getting the C because i figured they'd do a skip year or something, 1 year is minor tweaks (the c) and the next year we'd get major changes (the d). I don't have any surround sound right now and I'm sure either the C or D would be a great addition, I just know as soon as I buy it, they'll announce big changes on the next one :(

I am looking into getting the q990c which at this moment I can get for 795$ with the help of a friend that works at the retailer. I want to use the soundbar for basically everything that comes out of the TV, movies, games, football, news, etc. Got in plat to get an LG G3 to match it when the prices decreases a bit. The problem I have would be the bass. I'm usually a fan of the old school boomy bass e.g. 90s-00s hip hop and what i hear from most reviews is that the bass is punchy. And if it's punchy i'm afraid i won't like the sound (i'm referring to music). Anyone that owns this and can enlighten me please? I was thinking at a point to go for the q990d just for the 4k 120hz pass thru but that one is 300-400$ more and i'm not sure its worth it.

What does annoy me about this constant update is if you have a 'B' or a 'C' you will no longer get any updates as they only come out for the new model, so you get about 1 year of support, I have a 'B' 2022 which is practically stone age...

It’s one bar with four big 1800 (almost exclusively) software updates … but you get a soundbar kit with your updates … what a deal

I have the 990D and a Panasonic TV with only HDMI Arc and not eARC. Works great!

@@ricric8348 My Panasonic OLED TV is from 2020 and can read Dolby Atmos and Dolby vision juste fine through the HW990D. I have hooked a FIRE TV 4K stick on the TV and The numbers of active speakers only depends of the source (NETFLIX, PRIME VIDEO,etc).

If your tv does not have eARC it’s a good thing to buy a soundbar with inputs so you have a way to play lossless audio - particularly relevant if you use BRs or Apple TV that uses LPCM - not that Apple TV won’t work but your audio options from the Apple TV will be limited like no Atmos

I am using q990c for two weeks and it's just insane and bass is strong enough. (Actually it's better than my old 12" magnat rs12 sub) didn't even need to go higher than -3 db lol you need to put subwoofer on correct position try and find it. this thing is overkill for regular rooms. I had never needed to go over 30 volume. Whowver telling you that average 5.1.2 setup better than this it's just bullshit. Q symphony works with my q95t too that was a surprise because too many missinfo abt this on the internet year doesn't matter some high q models support others don't...

You need 2024 Q symphony to support the music frames. But Q symphony has been around for a while
