Samsung Isn’t Fixing Recalled Washing Machines, Some Consumers Say | TODAY

Last November, Samsung announced it was recalling nearly 3 million defective washing machines. Some have shaken so violently that they exploded, causing injuries. But now some consumers are saying the washers are still dangerous, even after the company vowed to fix them. TODAY national investigative correspondent Jeff Rossen reports.

There is also a serious rust problem and not enough water to completely wet the clothes before it drains and goes to the rinse cycle!

Fantastic. Had one delivered yesterday. Won’t drain. They offered to “fix” it. Yeah, that’s just what I want - a repair on day one of our brand new machine. We’re returning it, but Home Depot charges 15% restock fee. I’m disputing it and telling them if they charge the restock fee we’ll find a replacement elsewhere.

My mother purchase a Samsung about 2 years ago, it was on the recall list. In November she opted for the repair kit. We had a repair date and never received a call back the day before, then had Dish network for the second company come to fix it. We hadn't had an issue with our machine until they installed the repair kit in November, slowly from November to mid January the machine was taking longer than normal to wash, on the "new" bedding cycle it would run and then stop after an hour and all the lights on the machine lit up, reset it and restarted the load and that took over 8 hours. Then to having loads not spin out and go off balance during a normal cycle, we would put it on spin cycle after readjusting the clothes and it would fill and spin for hours.(was told by the Samsung repair guy, this is normal, the machine will fill with water to try and balance the load itself, UGH such a waste of water) Then recently it started to make an awful plastic grinding noise. I contacted Samsung and they sent out a repair person, who said the dampers where fine, he pressed the drum down and showed that there was no real give so that shouldn't be our problem, maybe the machine might be off level (it wasn't). Found out during the first visit the clutch was shot, fine he came back later that week and replaced it. I again mentioned how almost every load is going off balance and since the dampers were good, maybe there is a load sensor in the panel that may be shot. That is where I was told about getting rubber things for the feet to keep the machine from sliding on the concrete floor. Ok first off we have had the machine 2 years hadn't had an issue since the repair kit was installed. Now that the clutch was replaced, (repair guy left didn't test a load, just filled it and waited for the clutch to kick in) we went to do a load of laundry on a quick wash cycle and it went past wash and over 40 minutes later went to check on it and it was still on rinse, but nothing was happening except the 2 lights blinking (wash light and the rinse light). I am fed up at this point. So I put in on a spin cycle, the water drained from the machine, spin engages, then stops, a few seconds later engages again, then stops, then it engages again and you hear it spin on a high speed for about 24 sec then stops. I press the pause button seconds later the lock unlocks and the drum is still spinning. First off something I should not have been able to do is be able to lift the lid while the drum is spinning as fast as it was. I am so angry with this, My mother who is not a spry chicken is too scared to use this machine even if they come back and actually fix the damn thing properly. I personally don't blame her. Off to look for a new machine, so done for with even trying to contact them anymore. The money wasted in going to the laundromat and water bill being so high because of this damn thing We are ready to get rid of the damn thing.

Speed Queen has re-introduced the home version of their commercial coin top-loader. Model AWN632SP116TW01, also called the TC5000WN. It doesn't have the nominal capacity of the so-called HE machines, but mine will wash two queen-size microfiber blankets in a single load, and my grimiest work clothes come out clean. Best of all, a normal cycle with extra rinse takes less than 40 minutes.

Totally agree with this clip! I finally had a "repair" man show up on the THIRD appointment I scheduled through Samsung.. He showed up on time and the "fix" took all of about 12 mins... He was very polite, clean, and professional, I was thrilled to start a load the minute he left! Much to my despise, the machine still shakes uncontrollably and the spin cycle is pathetic, having to set and reset and reset for the load to actually spin. This was not a "fix" this was a secure the lid so Samsung isn't liable for anymore injuries! Fixing the issue would mean my washing machine actually washed my clothes, spin cycle included. I have another call into Samsung for the (hopefully) repair this time. I have called on three separate occasions, all a week apart and I am still waiting for a call back.. JOKE! At this point Samsung could replace my washing machines with ones made of gold - I will NEVER, yes NEVER buy another Samsung product!

I had Samsung top load and bought it 5 years ago. It costs me $770 with discount from Sears. The Samsung technician came to secure the lid a couple years ago for recall. After several years, the machine started getting rust inside. I was disappointed when I see this issue. I used to own Kenmore for more than 10 years and never see this issue. Then, starting around June 2018, the machine starts to show DC code issue and now doesn't drain water. I now gave it up and threw it away. I will not buy either Samsung nor LG products except TV. I just bought American made Whirl Poole. Whirl Poole made MayTag, KichenAid, JennAir, etc... This time I bought simple one with knob and turn, not digital.

They might have had the problem I had. That the washer was never fixed by the Dish Network repair person. I only found out because my washer wasn't working so since it was still under the recall warranty which was an extra year they came to fix it in August 2017. That's when one of the repair man said my Samsung top load washer clips (item that was to be replaced per recall) were never change it still had the original plastic clips. Thanks God my washer broke down & they had to come if not I don't know what could've happen since I was believing it was fixed since 2016, smh. If ii were them I'd check if the original clips are still on & were never changed out.

Samsung washing machines are a joke! My 2015 front load is already broken. After doing some research I found out that Samsungs have an inherent issue with their spin cycle. They've know this for many years now and haven't fixed the problem. They introduce new models every year but they only change the outside look. The inside remains the same and the problem just gets past on to the next model. Save your self a head ache and stay away from Samsung appliances.

Samsung has yet to fix mine and now it's always off balance due to cheap parts not built well enough. I'm done with Samsung they used to be good but not anymore. even my Samsung tv died after less than a year was fixed 3 times and broke again. Samsung has gone downhill unfortunately.

Kenmore has NEVER made a washer or dryer. The just pay other makers to put their name on "their" machines....mostly now they are made by Whirlpool.

I would highly recommend not buying any Samsung products I almost had a dryer burn my house down very dissatisfied with design in the dryer ! they're building products designed to go bad within one year in order to gain financial power $$$$$ refrigerator I bought also one year old plastic parts broke LED went out doors squeak and doors Will not stay open I nothing but problems Samsung worst company ever The design on the dryer is allowing lent to go into the element which will cause a fire purposely designed to burn your house down that's Samsung so Go out and get one so you can have problems like me!

If lint is building up in your machine then you have a vent issue. Its not the dryer. Samsung dryers require at LEAST 30ft to the outside and every 90 degree angle in the vent reduces that by 6ft. Also, if there is a hard turn (more than 90 degrees) then that right there is the problem. You know, more than 95% of Samsung appliance issues is user error.

This segment is thee most produced scripted thing I've ever seen. Why does everyone attack the Company and not the Consumer? I've dealt with people who buy a 4.8 cu ft washer and try to only wash 1 shirt in the tub! 1 FREAKING SHIRT in a 4.8cuft tub! Are you kidding me? No wonder these machines are exploding. You have self entitled people running a load with 1 shirt in a machine at 1100 rotations per minute. Jeez America, there's your problem! Also, did anyone notice how rusted out Brittney's bleach dispenser is? That can easily indicate that she has Hard water at home. Why don't we ask what kind of detergent she's using while were at it. I'm sure the answer will be, Tide Pods. But, in any which case, that unit is 6 years old without a problem. Why is media trying to terrify you (the consumer) into thinking Samsung makes shoddy products? Go onto my channel and watch my "Recalled" Samsung WA48H7400AW wash. Watch how I load the tub and what I set each load to on the spin cycle. AND they're full cycle videos with my phone on the lid of the tub. Voila'

Raymond Lalonde I can certainly believe that, bleach is a very corrosive chemical. Why people insist in using that outdated method of cleaning their tubs is beyond me.

Unfortunately misinformed people, don't know much about appliances and can't even find the time to read their owners manual. For all of those bashing the brand, let's see how many of you can design something better. All appliance manufacturers have issues when introducing new technology. It takes a little time to work out problematic issues. Try to understand this is how it works in all industry, If you want to get angry then go back to washing with a tub and washboard or design something better.
