Why doesn't any reviewer open both phones and put them on top of each other? It's the same internal screen, one of them just uses landscape mode and folds in half, the other one just uses portrait mode and folds in half. But at the end of the day, the inside screen is exactly the same, it's just whether you want the phone to fold on its narrower or wider axis

My Z Fold 5 was delivered yesterday and I'm brand new to the world of foldables. This phone is AMAZING. This screen is simply incredible. I'm pretty sure Samsung has converted me after just two days of using it. I thought I loved my S22 Ultra. Well this thing is on a completely different level.

Ugh!!!! I to just purchase the Z Fold 5. The first few days I let my partner use it because honestly when I opened the box I was underwhelmed. I am currently sending this reply from my S22 Ultra, which I love! I don't quite know how I feel about the Fold. Even though I have nothing to compare it to, except for my s22 ultra, I still was expecting more. One of the things I love the most about my S22 ultra is The edge panel. One of the edge panel apps that I have on my s22 the fold 5 doesn't even support. So clearly that was a bummer because I am not a fan of icons on my screen and the edge panel is a good way for me to utilize my most frequent apps without them having to be seen. With the fold five I had to create folders and then put them on a separate screen so I wouldn't have to see them.

That's an unrelated issue

The screen brightness isn't a "minor upgrade". If you never go outside in the sun, then yes, there is no major upgrade. Most people do, and that super bright screen makes a huge difference outdoors. I was very very shocked how well you can see this phone outside in full sunlight. It's a gamechanger.

Yes, it is subjective. In the UK we do not worry about having max brightness that high. Most of my phones never need to go above 50% but for a few times a year. But in the California sun having the extra brightness will be value-added though according to what I have seen it destroys the battery life.

@amfrepo generally it has nothing to do with screen Brightness. Usually is resolution and screen size that stains the battery but the peak brightness won't absolute kill the battery. In the folds case it suffered those detrimental features. Phones like the s23 line however, are more than exceptional when it comes to battery life.

@stevenc9207 Well, my phone has ran for a full 21 hours with 9 hours screen on time, with 18% battery left. That's with max settings on.

the 2 finger swipe in gesture & corner swipe down gesture is also on the Fold 4, but great video!

S Pen support is a winner. The new casing is perfect to store the slim S pen with practically no additional bulk.

The problem I have with Samsung is the bloatware, we dont need 2 apps for everything and 2 app stores, some apps are defaulted to Google apps and some are defaulted to Samsung apps, its a mess.

Wired charging for pixel is 21W correct ?

Samsung z fold 5 for me not that the pixel fold is bad I just prefer Samsungs software implementations and I like the fact the front screen I can use 1 handed I’m currently using z fold4 and its been fantastic

Many reviewers seem to miss that although the cover screen is skinny, it's very easy to one hand. Using swiftkey keyboard also makes it easy as it's possible to reach both sides of the screen with just one hand.

He also failed to mention there is an option on the galaxy fold to hide the task bar and recall it with gestures

He also got the charging speeds wrong on the pixel. It only supports 21w wired and 7.5w wireless. Idk where he got the 15w wireless from. He probably thought that it was 30w wired because google of course recommends buying their 30w charging brick for the phone even though it doesn't fully utilize it

I only own the s fold 5, so I can't really tell you what it's like to own the Google. I think I'd like the wider front screen more, and I don't use the spen anymore, so they would both be very similar i assume to own

The bezels on the Pixel fold are noticeably larger then the Z Fold 5 when you open the phone. People complain about the narrow front screen on the Z Fold 5. But for me as a first time Z Fold user it doesn't bother me at all.

Why is that? Did you always buy small phones? I always buy the biggest phones possible so when the z fold 5 is closed its the smallest phone Samsung needs to change that

I’m in the market for a new phone. Both of these caught my eye because it could possibly make it unnecessary to bring a tablet and phone. I just read the reviews on Verizon app . The Z fold has better rating by users than the Google Fold. Also what caught me was watching a review the operator stated when using an app on the front screen of the Google it doesn’t transfer over to the inner screen. Must relaunch app. That’s a nope. Looks like Z fold for me.

Well since samsung makes the screens and other parts for the iPhone, I'm pretty sure they'll help them out with a foldable version so they then can turn around to try and compare it to the father of foldables.

I just watched a video on styluses that you can use with the Pixel.

I will refer to pixel I love taking picture it's just my opinion

I've had a Z Fold 3 and 4. As soon at preorders went live I ordered a Pixel Fold and so far I have to say it fits me better. The narrow screen was just just such a pain point on the Z Folds I do think Samsung has a bigger advantage with the S Pen. I had it. Rarely used it. But when I did it was great. I just wished I had somewhere to put it. I never could find a case that made sense with it. Dex is great too but just not something I used but one or two times. I live for the day when I don't have to worry about having a phone, a laptop and a tablet. At the end of the day both of these devices are getting us there.

Here is the problem with the folds aspect ratio, Pretty much everytime you see borders on the left and right of your apps rotate your pixel fold 90 degrees. Thats what it looks like on a Z fold notice the lack of borders.

@@nickshern1654 No ragrats so far actually. I have found it more than adequate for multitasking and some minor game play. I am not a hardcore phone gamer so that may change if I decide to try it out . When I get a little time I will try some PUBG mobile or COD and see how it does. Even in tablet mode I still prefer to play those on my big iPad because older eyes.

I need a phone first that can be a tablet when I need it (pixel fold) and not a tablet first that can be a phone (z fold 5) other wise I'd just buy an LTE tablet

Pixel fold is a much better form factor.

It's weird and at the same time funny, but the Pixel Fold is 8-10mm too wide, while the Fold 5 is 5-6mm too narrow 🤦🏽‍♂️ On the other hand, there is zero chance that I pay $1800 for this Pixel Fold against the Galaxy Fold 5, zero ❌ The software on an Android smartphone, we can change it, it can evolve, but the hardware not, and the hardware of this Pixel Fold is not even worth half of its official selling price.

I am thinking of switching to a PF as well. My experience woth Pixels from P5, P6a, and P7Pro is consistently phenomenal most especially their Night Sight and their unparalleled Astrophotography mode. I dunno but there is inconsistencies with the ZF5 camera which I didn’t experience with my Flip 4. Another thing is that the gallery shows different image colors compared to when you upload it to social media. I was like, WHY?

I've had Samsung 5 for about 2 weeks. I like it, but I agree that when closed, the front screen size annoys me with usage. Is it worth the swap outside my issue?

No issues uses the z fold 3 or 5 without a case ever since buying them. But I also don't have butter fingers and never drop a phone.

Man, when you see the two side by side is just otta brain how those dimensions on the Samsung Fold were determined, by what standard??

Could you imagine if the Z fold had those big bezels what the reviewers would say? He said on the Google the bezels were good for resting your fingers. Now all of a sudden benchmarks don’t matter. We’ve been hearing non stop about geek bench every year because Apple scores higher the Samsung

I prefer the narrow display on the z fold, I barely use the outside display for most things other than calls and quick texts. Bc of its narrow design it makes it easy to type with one hand.

I'm using Pixel Fold has better battery life on Android 14 beta lasting almost for 2 days . 7 hours on screen time Google has their own special software AI that's only their phones.

True, I had my last laptop from 2014 till 2021. It did what it needed to do and I couldn't justify another 1500/2000 euro expanse. It wasnt after 7 years that I found my current PC wouldn't cut it any longer. I went from a 4th gen Intel i7 and a NVDIA Geforce 860 to an AMD Ryzen 7, fith gen and a RTX 3060. The difference was world betweens. I'll probably hold on to my current laptop for another 7 years (since purchase), at least. Also went from an Asus to a Lenovo (Legion Pro 5), brand loyalty means nothing in the PC world. Only Apple can command such a big and loyal following, and their entire brand is build around that Apple first consumer.

Some of the people at Samsung should re-evaluate, they should make their fold in the same way as pixel, it's easier to put in your pocket. Samsung is lucky their tech is still ahead. Maybe let me be a consultant in future, I'm an engineer/tech business runner. Focus on a battery version more, let people have the options. As a business phone a foldable is very good and camera quality doesn't have to be a highlight as long as it's on par. They should also try selling their own heavier cases with embedded batteries for people that are willing to tolerate a heavier phone for that battery life or a ejectable battery cell so you can carry two, charge one at your desk if you really wanted to. I prefer something like I said with the case because it's less mucking around. Having said that, a accessible push in push out battery for swap out is a much better idea than doing something Apple does, and forcing people to buy new phones, check the market data. Your old phones would sell more with replaceable batteries and it doesn't mean your clients are going to go buy a Samsung phone again at least this way it's an incentive.

To me, it looked like the galaxy 5 took better, brighter, more vibrant pictures.

How did Engadget make an obvious error in specs. While Google recommends using a 30w charging brick for the pixel fold the phone only supports 21w wired and a measly 7.5w wireless. So no the pixel fold is not faster at charging wired or even charging when wireless. It is actually worse

Definitely see a lot of Samsung fans in here. I personally like the Google pixel fold better having a screen on the outside that’s actually usable is important. And the Google pixel fold just looks better. I think when the next version comes out, it will have smaller bezel and probably be thinner.

Your argument makes no sense. The Fold5 is not as good because is not a big upgrade from the Fold4? But the Fold5 still beats the Pixel Fold.

How exactly does the Pixel offer more "thoughtful" software?? Just because of the orientation? I swear reviewers are so biased to Google when it comes to software it's ridiculous. Samsung easily has the best software for foldables, more flexibility, more multi-tasking options, intuitive task bar, forces apps to multi window and also forces apps to fit the bigger screen aspect ratio, and the normal OneUI features that are actually useful. Just an all around better software experience and it's not even close. The only thing holding Samsung back is their persistence on not using a wider cover screen. As soon as they do that the Galaxy Fold will be the clear winner no doubt.

Pixel Fold has smoother animations, a better screen resolution, a better AI in general, and a front display that is more useful. Fold 5 forcing apps to open for a better look is definitely not more useful. Blown up apps doesn't always mean better. Developers just needs to make apps optimized for tablets so we can all enjoy a better app experience overall

@@mfwolf86 thoughtful and smoother aren't the same and while I do agree that the Pixel's software is smoother it's still less useful than OneUI especially for foldables. And although Google's AI features are cool not everyone is going to get a use out of them because they are not supported everywhere and they're also pretty useless unless your 1st language is English and/or live in an English speaking countries. And as far as the apps situation goes, it all comes down to developers to optimize their apps for bigger screens like tablets and foldables. Samsung and Google can do nothing about it. But at least Samsung is giving you the options to do something, maybe you'll find it useful and maybe you won't, but with the Pixel you're stuck with litterboxing and there's nothing you can do to fix it. That's not thoughtful to me. Not to mention that the Pixel has nothing more that the most basic multi-tasking features that are available on any phone. So what's the point in getting a foldables if that's the case. That's also not thoughtful. Samsung made a software with big screens in mind while google just put android on bigger screen with no added benefit.

Pixel fold does not have thoughtful software, many apps do not scale properly on the inner screen.

These videos always forget the first rule of Google: Never buy a first gen product. Left the Pixel 6 for a Fold 5 and I couldn't be more certain about this being the best phone I've ever used

Not every year everyone buys Mobiles not every year there is battery upgrade and so I say every 4th year you update then there be changes well hopefully to make another upgrade well thanks and I say this all will change is usually colours faster and maybe to better the design of the phone so will operate well and improve the quality look of it. Internally looks so so much better than last year model every couple years there b 💫e (the magic word improvement ) < 👌

Samsung has the BEST software on ANY fold but the outer display for the Pixel just isn't enough. Great FIRST ATTEMPT. Glad there's competition but that's all that impresses me. I love to ONE HAND the front screen on the Z fold.

I really love my Z Fold 4 and not ready to upgrade, but I wish Samsung would just rotate the orientation so it unfolds to landscape like the Pixel. Would make the cover screen a more usable size and I typically only use the main screen in landscape.

Why aren't you comparing the original Galaxy Fold to the Pixel Fold . Seeing how the Pixel Fold is in its first year and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is in its fifth year. Of course commenters are going for the Z Fold 5. The Fold 5 has 5 years of improving the design and apps. Just go look at the review that MKBHD did on the Galaxy Fold 1 and you will see all the gripes people are saying about the Pixel Fold is exactly what Marques comments about the Galaxy Fold 1. Which by the way was $2000 at launch.

Yeah. Slimmer outside screen is superior for 1 hand use and creates a better aspect ratio for the inner screen as well when unfolded. The pixel prioritizes not opening the phone with the wider front screen which is literally the whole point of buying a folding phone. Win goes to the Z Fold 5 easily.

It takes 2 hands to unfold a foldable, so doing a rotation to landscape and portrait while opening is basically the same motion ... So unfolded orientation doesn't matter other than where the crease ends up

I've used both Samsung and Pixel devices (not foldable). From my experience, Pixel screen is delicate compared to Samsung. Both me and my husband own Pixel 6 pro and both of us dropped our phones accidentally on different occasions and easily broke the phone screens exactly at the same spot(strange). Whereas Samsung phone when dropped multiple times, didn't leave a single scratch. I love Pixel camera but I'm a clumsy user. So I would go with Samsung.

I came from the z fold 2, it's a big upgrade from (of course) last year, because obviously not a lot of new tech has come out in a year.....but the pixel is inferior, and why don't we knock Google for not even adding a use of a "Google stylus" , samsung the only one doing it and we still crap on them. SMH reviewers don't give samsung enough credit. No knock to your video but you sound like everyone else crapping on samsung 🤔. I know I'm not the only one. Samsung is on its 5th iteration of folding devices. And the fact that Google apps work better on samsung devices 😂. This review was the straw 😑 😒, you really sleeping on Samung SMH

I just switched from the pixel fold to the z fold 5 cause the crease on the pixel fold is so prominent its borderline unusable... z fold 5 is much more refined. Definitely go with the z fold 5.

Z fold better overall. Funny that when he said that the pixel takes better pictures, the samples show that the Z fold is the one taking better pictures 😂 Also, usable front screen depends on how you use it. For one handed use, the Z fold is better. The Z fold is also more comfortable in the hand since you can have more grip coverage. But if you're a biased reviewer, you will not mention that, oops 😅 And of course, a biased reviewer will mention that both phones are expensive but will not mention that you get better discounts and trade in deals with Samsung. Great job mister biased reviewer.

That is a big deal, yet he was mum about that. He got all the advantages of the pixel down, but not for the Z Fold. So yes, he is biased.

Also a biased reviewer would ignore the video recording cos he knows the winner, a biased reviewer would ignore the fact the the pixel fold weighs like a truck, a biased reviewer would ignore the fact that there's no s-pen, also a biased reviewer would ignore the fact that there's no reverse wireless charging, less optimized apps, and a biased reviewer would be giving wrong information, like when he said the 2 finger gesture started with the z fold 5 that's when I knew there's a problem with this video

It's the Google Pixel Fold for me. I hate the tall and narrow front screen on the Z Fold 5, the Pixel Fold seems to give a more normal feel in use. And this also means I prefer the book style design on the inner screen. If the design on the Fold 5 was more similar to the Pixel Fold - then I might have struggled deciding. But in the horizon lurks the OnePlus Open. So for me it's going to be a interesting decision to make between the Google Pixel Fold and the OnePlus Open.

Z fold better for one handed use and also more comfortable to hold. Just depends what matters more to you. For me, I prefer the size of the Z Fold

When i used Samsungs one UI software, I was so confused. There’s too many options such to the point that it becomes counterintuitive because you can’t figure out how to implement the ones you want. I want to try out pixel fold and see if their software is better suited for me.

Samsung for everything else but pixel for the orientation EASILY

The Fold is objectively hands down the better phone. Better performance, better customization, thr ability to resize any app to properly fit the inner displays, better displays, better build. The only thing Google one ups Samsung on is the camera.

It's so true. I want to love the pixel fold but im returning it and keeping the fold 5, its just so much better in every way other than the narrow cover screen (which i like for one handed use, if I need more I open it up).

Having to turn the phone to watch a video is the most complete non issue! Ridiculous thing to complain about

You'd have to own both to get it . Samsung can't even get the back gestures to work without closing the opposite app in split screen for 5 generations , Samsung quick toggle stretches across the entire screen but the pixel splits the quick toggles on the left and notifications on the right , the pixel fold has better animations , more fluid ui , pixel recent apps is a small grid of window for each app instead of the z fold having each open app take a majority of the screen I can go on but the z fold has the better multitasking features and more usable dock

The bezel in pixel fold is a very BIG issue

Google needs to add a stylus and a good notes app. I ended up returning the fold 5. That aspect ratio wastes too much screen with black bars.

I think for the cameras i do prefer on pixel fold especially on the telephoto has with a periscope lens making the best zoom photography than original optical zoom like fold5 is suck

Terrible product. The large screen if my Fold4 cracked right along the hinge 14 months (out of warranty) of regular use with no drops. $500 to repair!

I'm sorry but tensor has no business on a fold like phone yet. Your going to pay the same money for noticably worse graphics and a first gen design.

The only reason why I would get the google fold over the Samsung z fold 5 is the unlimited picture storage.
