Mine was doing this and here is something I observed and an interesting solution. Nothing I did following all the suggestions, hints, tips here on KZread and across the Web would work. I even factory reset the phone and still it happened to the point where I was considering taking it to the shop for repair. It was at this point that I noticed while going through various menus / apps etc that in the swipe down notification tray that the "torch" icon was showing it was in the "on" position i.e the icon was highlighted in blue but no amount of pressing it would cancel it however the LED camera flash was not physically on that is to say there was no light shining. I have the "All In One" toolbox app installed whereupon it gives you the option to install a Torch plugin so I decided to give it a go and installed it. The torch plugin gives you two options to control the main front screen which it lights up as a bright plain white wallpaper and the other option to actually control the camera flash LED with an on / off toggle button. I turned on the LED and it lit up (as per a torch) and turned it off. I then checked the "torch" icon in the notification drop down menu and it had switched off and wasn't highlighted in blue. I then clicked the camera and it switched back on and returned to normal operation. So that was my discovery and it worked, so hope that helps anyone.

Thanks heaps for this!!! My camera also failed today, just 3 days after purchasing the phone. Before fixing the problem with your help (the last method also worked for me), I contacted the Samsung support and they actually told me to just return the phone where I bought it, since they could not help me. Pretty unbelievable - such tools!!!

Smart stay is causing this issue simple solution is to turn of smart stay and restart your phone . camera should work..

+ujgilani Thanks mate I was reading the comments as watching the video only got to this first bit then saw this comment luckily. It's good to know what setting causes it instead of resetting all the settings back to factory. This was the fix for me though interesting bug.

I literally can't find the smart stay feature! I have followed multiple guides on how to turn it off on Samsung Galaxy s7 and I can't find this feature

I just saw your youtube on fixing the camera failed error. I tried all your suggestions and it worked on my S7! However, after turning off my phone for the night and then turning the phone back on the next morning, the error came back! I was wondering if you had any other suggestions. Yes, I reset it back to factor setting and that didn’t work either. If I download another camera app from Google Play would that work? If so, got any recommendations for that app? Samsung s5 mini doesn't have the option setting reset,it only has factory reset. the other methods didn't work at all

I got my galaxy j5 last week and I had this problem too. When I restart my phone camera works but than it failed again . Why this happens , if I try one of your steps is camera going to work always and not having problem anymore?
