✅SAMSEN ROAD | The UPMARKET Side of KHAO SAN ROAD | Bang Lamphu | Street Food | Hotels | Bars
Ойын-сауық
Bang Lamphu Samsen Road is across the canal about 300m from Khao San Road and there is a big difference. Across the canal is peace and quiet, nice vibes, great places to stay, eat, drink, hang out and a lovely canalside to walk along with lots of local neighbourhoods with friendly people and nice street food. And don't worry if you want the noise and chaos, Khao San Road and Soi Rambutri is 10 mins walk away! Enjoy.

All I can say Pat is you do a better job than the TAT in promoting places around Bangkok. Keep up the good quality videos.

I love that neighbourhood. I spent a lot of time there and strangely felt a little homesick watching the video. Maybe it's just nostalgia, anyway, great video. Thanks, Pat.

Wow Pat, you really have a knack for capturing beautiful spots that pull at the heart strings of anybody who loves Bangkok!! Amazing photography!
It is interesting because back in 1985 we backpackers called the whole area Banglamphu, including Khao San Road.
@BangkokPat
Жыл бұрын
Back in the day you were smarter so you knew that Khao San Rd was in the Bang Lampu area, not that many know that now unless they've looked a bit deeper. l called this video as it is to distinguish it from the Khao San side of the Bang Lampu canal.

@@BangkokPat I dug out my rather tatty 1982 copy of SE Asia on a Shoestring and Banglamphu is indeed what Tony Wheeler called the area. It was the bible for backpackers back then.
I like the Sam Seng.Good values, nice people, good restaurants with good prices and you can go everywhere. Nice walks too the river, sitting in the park. And from San Sen you can go easy around. And I li,e Satong too.
Love your videos. For the last 15 years, I’ve spent half the year in Thailand, minus the one Covid year, I still love watching your videos, of neighborhoods I’ve never even walked through. Definitely, trying these new neighborhoods when I’m back next month.
Thanks for the nice pictures, thx for the links, thx for the good music !!!
Brilliant!❤ My fave area for cheap accommodation in Bangkok
My favorite area to stay in BKK ❤ ... and chef Lek is amazing. ate there couple of times this April
Without knowing it, I stayed exactly along this road, and I agree with this video, it's really nice.
I like this place, especially when you said that : “ the music played in background with sensible … “ 🙏🏼❤️❤️ Thanks for your recommendation, I will be there soon 🙏🏼

I had a wonderful time in this area in the first years of the new millennium, I had a long-term room at the Suksawat Hotel (now the SS Hotel) (what a strange name for german speakers) opposite the Bangkok Bank. contact with the population was friendly. everything was half the price of the khaosan

Always interesting. Thoughtful. Nice relaxed presentation. High quality production. Excellent.
Love your cat friends….
Thanks for the great filming , things have not changed that much which is what i liked about this part of the Banglamphu , so much prefer the old town than the shinny skyscaper modern area bits. Back in late 80's to 90;s, we always used to stay in the New World hotel which is now a very pricy Nouvo City hotel. The rooms were very large and spacious that overlooked the canal. What a great place that was. The little shack next to the bridge was great for some food & drink, believe it is still there but a lot more spruced up now. Around the corner from there in the next soi there was a award winning Thai steet food place with seating in the street , the chef with a wok & open fire, now looks like its gone and a large hotel there. I also used to wander down to the river side fort sometimes . Thanks for bringing back some very happy memories of times gone by.
You have the most informative Bangkok videos on KZread.
Not many people appreciate your video, I think, unless you have some sort of history or background in the area. Thanks! Your videos remind me of my childhood life in Bangkok. Very much appreciated!
Looks like a nice feel around that area. I often stayed at a hostel in Trok Mayom which was an old teak house. Just behind Khaosan, but still nice and quiet. Imagine it's been lost to development.

Hi Pat! what a great and informative video! I wish your videos were online back in 2003. Although I did also a lot of walking around in Banglamphu, even had the chance to visit the corrections museum next to the Rommaninat Park. Last time I walked through Khaosan road was 7 or 8 years ago and yes it was mayhem. I’ll guess we r now to ‘old’ for that specific road.
Great video Pat, that chef was amazing 👍
Always accurate and informative guides Pat. Conjures some great memories of Bangkok. Do you ever do ever do real time adventure vlogs? Like road trips etc.

I stayed in Samsen during the lockdown. Soi 4`s Penpark was a great host. Thewet was great too.
It’s a “gaggle of tuk tuks” perhaps. Another lovely vid Pat. Thank you! 🤙🏾
Great video Pat, will get over to Samsen in the new year, keep em coming, Thanks.
I am an old Guy but i still like the KSR area .Your video showed me a lot of new areas i never knew about .I usually stay in the road behind the Temple opposite the Police station .There its usually quiet once you get to your room .Prices are cheap there for Bangkok .

@@BangkokPat The whole country. I only get a few months a year there. I'm jealous.
I stayed at the lovely Lamphu Tree House Hotel. They have a very nice swimming pool. I did a quick walk thru Khoa San Road. It wasn't for me.
I experienced KHAO SAN ROAD …BANGLAMPHU…ETC…IN THE 80s and did not like it or any of the Other Backpacker Areas….not at all in sync with that Crowd or huge Mob….but I did wander the back streets there and old China Town…it is a Seriously overpopulated World and everyone has Money…and everyone is restless and wanting to See the World…but it was the old Expats of the 60s 70s 80s that really experienced the Far East and contributed to so many of the Historic Areas you feature. Most Tourists seem to be doing the same o same o…@ rarely experience the real Asia… Eat DrinkShop…Eat Drink Shop….etc etc
Brings back memories. i always loved the quiet of Bang Lamphu near the river.
Always great viewing Pat,,,,,and the information on Bangkok is second to none 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Great Blues Bar in that area; Adhere The 13th Blues Bar. First went there in 2003/4......oh shit...that's nearly 20 years ago. My first night there I'd already had a few beers and must have got there early as I think I was 1 of about 3 people there. An American or Canadian guy got on stage and knocked out a perfect rendition of Rory Gallagher's acoustic version of As The Crow Flies (off the Irish Tour album). It's a great song and the guy nailed it. I've seen a few different guys and bands playing over the years and all have been very talented musicians.
I like the cut of your jib, Pat. I’ve only just started watching your videos but I’m going to binge-watch as of now, prior to a trip to TH fairly soon. Those sois hold a lot of treasures. I'm sooo glad you didn't reveal the best music venue in that area, and one of the best in Thailand. Your video was shot all around it but didn't show it. Sorry to be greedy, but its a tiny place and seating is limited so thanks for keeping it secret!

There were two very small places on Samsen Road. And I didn't get around to getting pics because I was mostly there during the day, I should have mentioned them along with every other place but I did name a handful of places. If I namecheck all it makes the place less of a mystery. People like to discover places for themselves.
