Fun fact: The Pharcyde were working on Labcali and were looking for an additional producer, and at the time, Q-Tip was working with Mobb Deep on their 95' album, The Infamous. Q-Tip wasn't able to directly help the Pharcyde with production for their album, but he referred them to a fellow producer in Detriot that shaped the way of sampling and hip-hop. That was none other than the great J Dilla. RIP JAY DEE.

From featuring with de la soul early on 3 feet high, discovering nas, mobb deep, j dilla and busta rhymes..... Q tip impact on hip hop is hella underappreciated, on top of all he was kinda the godfather of jazz rap, yet he's never mentioned in any top 20/top 10. Pretty crazy.

@@matteocellucci8090 No doubt. A lot of people forget he pioneered the path for a lot of artists and even producers back in the day. Just like how he says in one of the Tribe Called Quest songs, Keep It Moving, "How you get West coast N****, from West coast hater? I could never diss a whole coast, my time is too greater", Q-Tip was never ashamed to work with artists from both sides. He wasn't on no beef shit. Thats what I appreciate the most about him.

one thing to note, im not sure who it was, but one of the members of Pharcyde upon hearing the demo for Runnin tried rerecording J Dilla's drums in the studio cause he didnt like how wonky they sounded and then JD found out and a big argument ensued. one of the other members convinced the others to keep the drums and told Jay Dee what he did was unique

might look simple but the bass chopping that wasnt shown is nuts, taking the bass from the horn section during the chorus and a different bass pattern stretched out from the original guitar during a different section (at least from what i remember).
