Sample breakdown: 9th Wonder Instrumental - A Glimmer

I'm trying to be more in depth with these breakdowns, since I want to push myself in the learning process! So here I've done my own Drums (they sound weak), and the bassline, which is pretty much correct!

You're not buggin there is some light side chain. Enough for the kick to punch

Right! I can hear the ducking of the bass for sure. Sidechaining is such not a 90's technique, it is a bit more modern, so it makes sense guys that came right after the 90's like 9th Wonder used it. No way guys like Dilla, old Alchemist, Premiere were sidechaining boom bap beats right?

@@Narokx I know dilla did. I use to study his beats when I first got into making beats. Alchemist and Primo, I'm not %100 sure

@@jaysenpaiX93I know a lotta of old school producers use to put a lowpass right on the exact freq of a kick in an eq and compress that all to shit which might be something but he also prolly made this in frooty loops lol

@@Narokx the mpc's and recording equipment they were using in the 90s made it so the final instrumental was usually heavily compressed, which is why they didnt need sidechain to get that slight pumping effect

This is so cool!!! What's the name of the software you are using to show the wave forms and how the beat is constructed?

Hey man, can you do a breakdown of Nas - Queens Get the Money sample of Yann Tiersen - Summer 78? I've been trying to re-create that Jay Electronica beat but struggled to get it right
