    Consistently some of the most quality aviation content on youtube No music or tacky editing, straight to the point. Also, interesting that this A319 uses IAE V2500 engines

    Another great video, always look forward to the Saturday morning uploads! Coming from the UK, I've particularly enjoyed some of your UK departures and arrivals, but I thought this was one of your best in terms of the insight into some of the thought process that goes into the planning. For context: My experience is about 50hrs towards PPL, but not flown in a while now. Still trying and failing so far to master the flare & landing of the Fenix A320 in MSFS! I have quite a lot of the ITVV DVDs from the 90s in the UK, plus enjoyed some of JustPlanes content (particularly some of the Aer Lingus flights). Your content is up there with theirs and I'm going to show some support to the channel shortly! Keep it going! 🙂

Another beautiful visual departure video by Samos. 🤩 Thanks for the great insights and views from the cockpit. 👍 I'm thrilled that you can see the aircraft and the cabin crew in the videos. A big thank you to them for allowing us to see the beautiful pictures and videos of their work! A question: Can I say you? It would be an honor and I would be very happy. 😀 With this in mind, I wish you and your crew a nice week. Greetings from Styria 🤗 Werner

    Good morning Sirs, well you said stunning and stunning it was, thank you for a very entertaining video. I am always struck by the great working relationship between yourselves and the push back drivers and their professionalism in manoeuvring of the aircraft with such accuracy. They are one of the "unseen hero's / heroines" who work together to make it all possible. Their work is one of the things that we passengers do not see from the cabin so they tend to go unnoticed. Thank you again Sir.

    Stunning visual departure out of Samos! Really really beautiful 😍I have just two questions. 1. Do you need to send a delay message to your company yourself? I'm just asking, because she asked you during pushback what the reasons for the current delay are. I guess she needs to write it down & send to it to whereever as well...maybe to her company... 2. You performed a TO/GA takeoff with Flaps two. Does your calculation tool give you any suggestions whether you should take Flaps one or two for example or do you have to "try out" every single option yourself and find the best one possible?

  • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    10 ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching and your good feedback! And thanks for being a member of the channel! Your membership helps keeping the channel alive! Usually, our flights to and from Samos are on time. Here, we arrived a few minutes late and the ground ops in Samos was slower than than normal due to lots of traffic for the small airport. If an ATC delay message would be required, this will be sent by ops control. Here the ramp agent is asking about the delay reasons. She has to send the codes for the reasons with her departure message to our company. This also shows up in the cockpit and we have to verify that it is ok. To avoid any disputes about the reasons, the agent should verify the reasons with us before we leave. We can choose between several options in the performance calculation tool. One option is an optimum configuration. The result of the optimum calculation may be any allowed takeoff flap setting. Most of the time, the optimum calculation will provide a good result for us. Due to the very variable winds, we went through different other options because we wanted some more margin for a possible takeoff abort.

    Great video, the first time I see a TOGA take off instead of SRS with "false" temperature! A lot of work in this SID to avoid obstacles! Just one question: what is the green dot in speed indicator? You followed that indicated speed just before selecting "speed managed". Thank you and keep posting those great videos! Cheers from LIPX!!

    Thanks for your good feedback and your question! The green dot marks the green dot speed: The engine out operation speed in clean condition. This is the best lift versus drag speed with one engine running and very close to the best lift/drag speed with both engines running.We use this speed if we want to get the best climb gradient to overfly close obstacles in the departure. Like here in the video.

    Great departure ending with TOGA after multiple fast recalculations. Action packed, super professional as always, good communication and great views. What more to ask for? :). Is there a company policy for minimum stop margin, or is it all up to the captain (or PF?) to decide? Have you ever had to delay a departure because stop margin even at TOGA, packs off etc were too low?

  • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    Thanks for the great feedback! The Airbus calculation is already very conservative. For example does it not take the full headwind into account. Also if we use a Flex temperature takeoff, there is an additional true airspeed effect which adds a margin. We can takeoff with no extra margin. But if there is a chance to get some extra margin, we usually try to achieve it with different flap settings, packs off or TOGA. The crew decides what they prefer. In Samos the winds are very variable from one moment to the next and also along the runway. So I try to get a good margin whenever possible. In Samos it was always possible to takeoff somehow without delay. Once we had to takeoff in the other direction, which is very rare.

    Thanks for another great video. Pls forgive my questions. I wondered (without vectors etc) would the VNAV accurately handle the descent from T/D right down to the ILS approach altitude (if you dialled that in at T/D). I am interested how accurate the VNAV is in real Airbus. Thanks 👍👍

  • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    Thanks for the good feedback! Yes, the vertical navigation of the Airbus works fine as long as you fly the preprogrammed routing, the idle performance factor is programmed correctly and the entered descent winds are close to the real winds. If the idle performance factor is wrong, you may need speed brakes or arrive to early at your bottom of descent.

    Thanks for watching and your great feedback! The ground crew has to send a delay message to the company. Before doing that, they shall speak with us to make sure that we agree to the delay reasons. This avoids a later dispute because the message is also transmitted to the airplane and we have to agree or dispute the reasons.

    Is there no push-to-talk button for the Ground-Cockpit Communications? It seems that is an open mic. So as you said that you received the Load Sheet very late they COULD have heard it on the ground? :D

  • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    10 ай бұрын

    The ground crew is connected to the cockpit interphone. As long as the cockpit interphone is "hot", the groundcrew hears what we say in the cockpit. We can switch off the hot mike of the interphone and use a push to talk button instead. But you are correct, here the ground crew may have heard that the load sheet was very late. This is not a secret or so.

  • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    No, we do not have to justify when we use TOGA. The opposite is true: We are encouraged to use TOGA if we deem that it is the best solution for the situation. Safety has always the highest priority. And we never have to justify a safe operation.

    Exactly, that's what I thought, I was wondering because of the interference with the comms in the audio. I do have a question tho, if you could, why have you decided to depart with toga conf2 instead of flex config3? Because of the obstacles/climb perf with conf3 on the north? And was the margin very different with flex conf3 from toga conf2? Thank you so much sir

    Good question. The picture you see on the navigation display is provided by the database of the ground proxymity warning system. Not from the radar. When we need the radar, we switch it on sometime after the pushback when the ground crew has left.

    what does „slot filed 1“ mean? Why do you get a min/max ASDA and Stop margin - which one do you choose? How do you determine if the stop margin is too low?

  • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    10 ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching! Please provide a timetag. I do not know what “slot filed 1 is”. Maybe it is a misunderstanding. The performance program usually provides a V1 range. If we use the lowest V1, the ASD is the shortest. With the highest V1, the ASD is the longest. The advantage of the high V1 is the possibility of a late takeoff abort. The advantage of a low V1 is the additional margin in case of a takeoff abort. We could do a takeoff without a margin in the calculation. Even with no margin, we may not need the whole runway because the performance program has already some safety features included. Also a takeoff with a flex temperature will always provide an additional margin because of the true airspeed effect which is not taken into account during the calculation. The crew decides what the best option will be for every takeoff. Here the wind changed continuously and we calculated the performance with the most unfavorable wind out of the wind range provided by the tower.

    This takeoff was showing MAN TOGA. Most other takeoffs show MAN FLEX SRS RWY. TOGA is shown because of the full power takeoff. FLEX is shown if we do a reduced thrust takeoff. For RWY, you need a localizer transmitter at the takeoff runway. After the takeoff, we used the heading mode HDG. in heading mode, there is no managed CLB available. Only OPEN CLIMB because in HDG the flight management and guidance system is unable to adhere vertical constraints.

    When you get to the end of the track and you want to turn backward, is it better to turn left or right? Or does it make no difference?

  • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    10 ай бұрын

    Good question! In general, it both works. But it depends on who is steering the airplane. If the captain is steering the airplane, he or she will usually taxi back on the right half of the runway. Then the turn is done to the left and at the end another turn to the right during the lineup procedure. We are doing the 180 degree turn with the cockpit very close or depending on the with of the runway even over the edge of the runway.
