Ill be honest, I wasnt expecting a whole lot from this interview, I admit I had a bias/preconcieved notion that assumed Mrs. McCarthy would be very simple/basic and "safe" with questions..it is something I constantly work on...this is a perfect example of that bias kicking me. That said, this is a fantastic interview!!! Sammy is always honest, forthcoming and tells it like it is and he and Jenny just locked in. Her questions are excellent and she either did a lot of research or she is/has always been a huge fan. She made it one of the best Sammy interviews I've seen. That affirms my need to stop that damn bias of mine. Well done Mrs. McCarthy! Sammy, thanks for being you! Van Halen raised the bar when you accepted the gig. Thank you for the soundtrack to so many of our lives!!

About 30 years ago VH went to Orlando, FL, and stayed in the hotel my mother was working at as a maid. She was in her 50's, so Sammy had no business flirting with her, but she was star struck on how nice he was to her and what a beautiful smile he had, and his hair, yadda yadda yadda. Speaks volumes about his humble nature. BTW, they didn't trash the room, so she was extra thankful!

I'm turning 50 , lost count along time ago. Guessing I've seen about 250, maybe close to 300. Recently found a box of old stubs, and brought back great memories of the arena days. Most my concert experiences were 84-2000, started hating arena shows when all the bands started doing clubs. Once I got a taste of the clubs and small theaters, that was it! Love getting close and feeling a part of the show. Arenas isolate the musicians AWAY from the fans. U can have the same xperince watching a DVD in your living room. Clubs, u r sharing an experience WITH the band. And forget the exorbitantly over priced arena shows are now. Forget it. Not worth the $$$ by far. It's not about getting old, it's about getting something for your money, and enjoying the show. I think it's sad what has become of the rock n roll show now. I.E. KISS end of the road tour. Goodbye already and thanks but no thanks, I love be buying a new guitar with the 2 grand I'll be keeping in my pocket. Saw Sammy 3 times in theaters for a grand total of $180 ,partied hard up front or very close, shook his hand, sang with him, awesome experiences and memories of a life time with THE MAN , thank u red rocker for earning every penny.

Sammy Hagar is a rock star on many levels. I have gone to Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas twice hoping to see him and say hi. Apparently he was there the day before I was on the last visit a couple years ago.... Guess another trip is in order!!

Saw Chicken Foot, The Circle at Harrahs South Lake Tahoe. He had lost his voice the night with the Circle. Still it was a very great show. So much fun. Saw Van Halen in Baton Rouge 1991. I cannot begin to describe that show - it was so far beyond great - if you were there, you know.

Sammy is inspirational, his comments about “knowing where his Brakes are” is so true. I know so many people I used to hang with that destroyed their lives because they had no brakes or will power. Nothing wrong with having fun, but have a purpose!

The hardest part of performing live is having to do it when you don't feel good and just don't want to. Playing music is fun. Even on the worse days when you drag your ass in to a practice or a show 99 % of the time as soon as you start playing it starts going away. Most of the time. Not always. this guy amazes me for his age. I'm 62 and was a Montrose fan as a teenager so he is 71 and he looks better than most young men. When your image is your bread and butter you damn well better take care of yourself.

mark overstreet you obviously do not know the history of Van Halen and definitely should not be making a comment because, first Van Halen was soo big they were iconic level before Sammy Hagar joined the band, so the only way to go would have been down, but luckily Sammy was able to pull it off and keep them moving in the same direction from a record sales standpoint, but musically every true Van Halen knows that the real time musically was with David Lee Roth, and I’m a big Sammy Hagar fan, but I liked him more solo.

@@claytoncarey2128 "every true Van Halen fan"...? Are you the arbiter of acceptable VH opinions? LOL. The DLR stuff is classic but, musically, the band was way better with Sammy. He a better musician and a much better singer than Dave. Dave is a showboat. Not that that is bad, you have to have some showmanship, but that's all he is.
