I'll tell you something about Sammy. I lived in Cabo San Lucas many years ago, not very long after Cabo Wabo Cantina opened. Most nights, when there were guest stars, the place got packed and it was almost impossible to get in, but at any given night when Sammy was there, even if he didn't play and there were only a few guests at the place, he'd go outside and shake everyone's hand and thank us for being there. He's a real person with his feet on the ground. He'd probably like you too if he met you.

Yeah I l I ke The music with Roth a bit mote but I like Sammy a lot too. he's a great Rock style singer but most of all he's a true one. No put on.. His enthusiasm is some that shines thru. who wouldn't be enthusiastic in if I liked Rock.guitar and I was in a band with Eddie . I d be . so I find Sammy very much and one of the r a re totally true rocker and I admire that.

You must not have read Sammy's 2 recent interviews where he said he was sorry for what he said about Eddie in his book and then in the same breath said but I said those things becuz I was still mad becuz the Van Halen brothers ruthlessly kicked me out of the band. First of all, that is a lie becuz Sammy by his own admission quit, and second, apologizing and then justifying it and dissing the person in the same sentence is not an apology at all, it is a diss. Really? he's the only one still raggin' on being kicked out / or having left VH, whichever way you read it. I've listened to a couple of live cuts from the 2004 Hagar reunion when was way less than spot on. The voice is a different instrument than the guitar, and Nothing makes me remember VH more than DLRoth's vocals. He even screamed in two octaves, and the train whistle screams, Sure, he's ragged on VH....but not nearly as much as Sammy Hagar has, Sammy's still talking about it. I don't think anyone would deny that Sammy is a good guy. I get that. But it was the end of VH when DLR left.

Good point, Jason. It seemed that Eddie was this fun loving great time genius who just loved being in a band for many years. Age has this weird affect on us, don't it? I think he just got to where he didn't handle the alcohol so well anymore, became a mean drunk, a fall down drunk, and started blaming his issues on those that loved him. Sammy was the very first rock musician I ever saw live. I was 13, got my ticket, went to the show, went inside the venue, and immediately heard this killer, gigantic wailing noise, unlike anything I’d ever heard. Went through the doors to the stage area itself, and there was Hagar, sitting on the edge of the stage, playing a lap steel guitar, getting a huge, HUGE wall of sound out of that thing. I’ll never forget that.

Man that was awesome too. 5150 was just my favorite but I like it all. I think Sammy is just a good good guy. He's one of those guys I would love to meet and just hang with, you know he's classy and has more musical talent in his fingernail than most people do in their whole body. Dudes pretty old and acts and looks young, so whatever he is doing is working.

Sammy always took the high road when speaking about his time in van Halen. That period was so productive with song writing and live shows , and I am so glad to have seen them . Those VH bro’s loved to party ,BUT Sammy and Dave outgrew that madness and kept their heads. Chickenfoot kicks ass and so doe Dave’s solo efforts. What a great time in rock history. Radio was and still is rockin big time.

I agree with everything you said except about Dave. That guy just used Van Halen to help revive his sad solo career that ended when he lost his ability to sing. Dave never gave a shit about anybody but himself and they should have never let that no talent washed up wannabe back in the band. Unfortunately The Van Halen bros were led down that road by their manager who didn't like Sammy and only was interested in making lots of money. He knew that Van Halen with Dave back would have generated huge amounts of interest and that they would sell out everywhere they played. But Dave was not able to sing like he could anymore and those shows just ended up being an embarrassment to the band. I left after only 3 songs it was that bad. The band would have honestly done better hiring a singer from one of the couple of Van Halen tribute bands out there than bringing back Dave because they could at least sing and sound like the old Dave. I just couldn't believe that Dave was out there willing to embarrass himself like that because he knows for sure that he couldn't sing anymore. I guess he must have really needed the money badly because having him on stage attempting to sing and act like he did in his 20s was only embarrassing himself and the band and ripping off everyone that paid to be there. Eddie was on Meth during this time and was out of control crazy. He lost his wife and found out he had cancer and was listening to people that didn't have the bands best interest at all. Everyone saw this start during the last tour he played with Sammy on. So he was influenced by these people that Sammy was screwing him and that Dave should replace Sammy and I think the thing that made him say yes was when they said he could replace Mikey with his son. He knew he was losing his battle with cancer and he would have killed for the opportunity to go on tour with his son Wolfgang. He was so crazy at that time that he even tried to remove Mikey from the older album covers and credits but then was told he went to far. Both Sammy and Mikey are total class acts and still on top of their game today. They should have never been thrown out of the band the way they were because doing that robbed them and the fans of so much more great quality music. I know the Van Halen bros made a good chunk of change on that Dave tour but it cost them their reputations as being a class act top tier band in the end. Everybody forgave each other in the end just before Eddie passed including the fans because they were remembering the great Eddie Van Halen of old who was just an incredible musician and one of the most grounded and nicest guys in the business. It was just sad that this couldn't have been prevented from happening because Eddie didn't deserve to fall down into this hole. He was lied to and pushed down that hole by people who took advantage of him when he was at his weakest. Even worse none of these people responsible for doing this will ever be called out for this and they will enjoy living the good life with all the money that they made ripping off fans bringing that washed up over inflated egotist Dave back in the band. There was no great music put out after Sammy left and I wonder how many more great songs could have been created and how many more quality tours the fans could have seen if they had just stayed strong and kept Sammy and Mikey. I'm sure it would have been a lot more than the one that they put out with Dave which was the worst album they ever put out. Not even today's technology using AutoTune helped Dave very much on that album and it took many months for them to get the final cut if Dave's vocals recorded to a level that was barely acceptable to put on that album. And if you were hoping for a tribute concert in honor of Eddie Van Halen's passing you could now blame Dave for that not happening too. Apparently Dave is not willing to share the stage with anyone else probably because he knows that he will be made to look like a pathetic fool trying to out sing anyone else singing in that show. So too bad for the fans because Dave could care less about Eddie or the fans. Why would anyone expect anything different from him now. Don't get me wrong, I loved the original Van Halen lineup with Dave just like everyone else did. I would have loved to see them play all their older stuff again because I love those songs too. But the reality was that nobody would ever hear that lineup play those songs again like they used to once Dave lost his ability to still sing them like that and to go out on tour with that talentless clown only smeared and hurt the Van Halen name. It was a terrible show that should never have been allowed to happen because the music quality was not up to par with the level that Van Halen was capable of putting out. It was a money grab and I feel bad for anyone that went to see any of those shows because it left those people with a bad impression of this band. I heard people at a loss of words trying to complement the shows that they went to because they didn't want to believe that they just got ripped off but didn't want to say anything bad about Eddie because they still loved him. Anyone that did actually like the show had to be totally tone def and we're there on the hype that the original lineup was back and they really wanted to be a part of that once again. But the reality was that it stunk badly and it should not have ever happened to this band or the fans. I just hope that people will forget the last 20 years of Van Halen career and only remember them when they were the greatest band ever because that's what they were before the music industry turds got involved and destroyed them so that they can get richer. R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen you will always be remembered as one of the greatest musicians to have ever lived and we thank you for the music and the love you spread all over the world in your time with us.

Too bad they couldn't all get together and call it.. Fck it band.. And played all songs that they ever produced. They would be the biggest sales to ever hit the market. And concerts, they would have to build new stadiums for just this group .. lol

I saw Sammy in concert with Jason Bonham in September of 2022 and I couldn’t believe that he was pushing 75 years young. The guy genuinely loves what he does and that energy permeates into his music. He and Vic signed everything that the fans threw up onto the stage. One item was a Dr. Suess hat .. Sammy wore the hat for a couple songs, signed it, and then handed it back to the fan who tossed it onstage. As a big Led Zeppelin fan it was also an amazing opportunity to see the son of the legendary drummer John Bonham onstage, Jason Bonham. What a great legacy Sammy has created, what a great man!

Saw Sammy for the first time after he left Montrose, he was opening for the Fabulous Thunderbird and SRV was there playing with his brother Jimmy. It was a free outdoor street jam/party on Indiana Avenue in Wichita Falls Tx 1979 Sammy touring in support of Street Machine, didn't have the album yet so I didn't know what to expect then he unleashed Trans Am, Plain Jane, This Planets On Fire and I knew then he was very special, those 3 songs are still in my top 5 Hagar songs. Jimmy Vaughan introduced his little brother as Stephen Ray Vaughan but likes to be called Stevie then he launched into little wing and I knew he was going to be great. Got to meet both Stevie & Sammy after the show both very humble and approachable ~ Stevie very quiet, he was a terrible loss to the music world. Saw Sammy again at the Texxas Jam and again with the Circle a couple of times...hoping Chicken Foot will happen again. Got the book "RED" an amazing read.. couldn't put it down.
