That was his story. Convenient how Sammy was there, but stayed away from the car. He ended up taking control of DeCicco's huge crew and Teamsters Local 282 and eventually became underboss.

None of those morons and goons who were with DeCicco could handle/ let alone run a union and the businesses on top of the streets except Sammy. They were coming for Sammy and John first. It just so happened Frank went to that car and not someone else. It also came out that Danny Marino and Jimmy Fialla helped orchestrate this hit. Calling a sham meeting, having DeCicco go out to get a lawyers card for another Luchesse member who also almost died in that blast while Gaspipe, and the traitor captains in the Gambinos all watched waiting for the bomb to detonate. It was also rigged and set up for John Gotti initially but he didn’t show to the meeting. Gaspipe panicked and made the call to take out the underboss. Chin actually liked the idea better of picking off everyone around the Gambinos boss leaving him paranoid, less income and always looking over his shoulder.

To my understanding, Frankie was like a brother to Sammy. He even offered to go to the car and get what Frankie needed before Frankie insisted he would go. If Frankie hadn't done that, history would have gone very differently for the mob.

I agree with yes a motive would have existed but I think people forget we have absolutely no idea if it's true or not. And we never will. Because we only have the word of a few gangsters who were in some way or another connected to Frankie that are still alive to go by, we no evidence one way or another that Sammy was involved and so it's pure speculation. There is usually a motive for murdering people concerning ourselves. My dad has money, if I kill him I'll get the money. Say my dad gets murdered. Was it me that did it? I had a motive. but where's your evidence?

All said the reason they used a car bomb was to "make it look like the zips did it", the zips being the Sicilian mafiosi. So it would seem that the Luccese's were behind it, I think they had the backing of Chin as well because they wanted to kill Gotti, but the unintended target Frank Decicco got blown up as a result of it
