Complicated song, lots of layers, lots of guitar parts, outstanding guitarists and then she proceeds to play it all, just her, just one guitar. I like the way she starts the song better than the, just drop into it, of the original and then when she grabs those bass notes, stick a fork in me, I'm done. She's absolutely amazing in the way she constructs the dynamic of a song. It's all in the details and she has them stacked to the ceiling, always perfect and never the same twice. I can understand complex playing when you can tell they played it the same exact way hundreds of times to get it musical but, I think a lot of what she does is created in the moment. Watching her right hand is a magic show that you'll never figure out how she does that trick.

I love her! So great to hear her just talk about what excites her about guitar. I would have guessed more country blues than rock. I had a similar route, I started out listening to straightforward rock like Van Halen and AC-DC (as well as Tom Petty) and when I started playing guitar I found out their favorite guitar player was Eric Clapton, and led me to the blues, which decades later led me to Samantha Fish. Mike used a little different phrasing on the arpeggios making them pretty difficult. They sometimes played that song really fast which would be nearly impossible to do that lead. I have no idea how the hell he was able to play it that fast. He used finger picking along with the flat pick. I never was able to get it down right even after playing that song for 15 years in a cover band. I got close but never nailed it perfectly but... Mike never really nailed it PERFECTLY live either, then again, he sometimes used a 12 string Rick. What a great player!

@@ds97853 I don't disagree about who played what. I'm just saying anybody can play it on any guitar they want. Where ever Tom's spirit resides, I'm sure he's happy to have anybody play it on any instrument they want. I don't think "sacrilegious" ever entered the equation for TP. The Heartbreakers covered other groups songs without using the exact same instruments. The "right way" is totally subjective.

@@georgestevens1502 sacrilege was meant to sound more sarcastic, i could care less what she played it on. It is just one of those riffs that is a full on classic telecaster sound.

@@ds97853 Guess what? At the 2008 Super Bowl hafltime show Campbell played American Girl on a Dusenberg Les Paul type guitar with humbuckers! In the immortal words of Casey Stengel. You can look it up!" So, by your own reasoning, Mike Campbell was sacrilegious when he played his licks on American Girl for the biggest audience that ever heard the song at the same time!
Wrong person to do this song.... it sounded like she’d learned it that week... truth hurts.
