By the time he started KZread he already had a show on hbo and was famous in the New York scene. Casey literally started his KZread career shitting on Apple. I do agree with you, his videos got popular because there was big interest in New York. The type of people who liked him where artsy at the beginning, those who would know who Tom sachs was. He then took off and that style became mainstream

No I'm just noting two things: firstly about the tech bro/ Ted talk hipsters around 2009-14-15ish really had a serious sense of entitlement generally because nearly every fuckin app or new popular trendy tech was highly profitable for a little while and it gave alot of people in that space at the time a big head a bit of money or atleast opportunities and no real thoughts towards longevity ..... (i mean all the successful start ups I can think of from around that time either got bought up or integrated into a bigger more established product) alot of people thought they had a Future apple or Microsoft, so they had a pretty big gigachad ego at the time and very little output, this is common knowledge and he's one of first people to vlog in what would become the general established style of vlogging we see most commonly now.

my first boyfriend introduced me to casey neistat. i was 13 at the time and he was 15. we were sitting on the staircase and he was reciting the entire lore of casey, he genuinely looked up to the guy and even made a youtube channel to follow his footsteps. it was the my first time having a guy share his interests with me. he went on to break up with me because he was falling back on his studies and blamed me for it. he died 2 years ago due to heart attack. havent thought about him much but it all kept rushing back to me right now. no one deserves to die at 21.

Honestly, when i was like 14 watching his stuff, it was a much better influence on me than a lot of other media. I do think hes corny, but i respect people who find their niche doing unique creative work. He came from the gutter too. Think he grew up in a trailerpark, and knocked a girl up when he was like 15. His brother Van is pretty cool, i like his videos when im looking for something wholesome.

You can learn a lot from Casey Neistat. While a lot of it is shameless lowest common denominator appeal to the algorithm, the one thing I will never understand is why he uses such a wide lens shot at a low angle for scenes that are inside of him just talking. Almost all of the people who copied his style do what you're supposed to and have a less wide angle for those shots with the camera slightly above and then use a wide angle if they're out in a city

I am a little disappointed hearing Sam going down to the level of insulting his looks, etc. I am not a huge fan of Casey Niestat content myself, but it is not fair to say that he did not create something original, and he clearly put a lot of effort into his content, and is a nice guy. I imagine him even being a fan of Sam and Nick. This was low of them.
