Sam Fender says lockdown shaped personal edge to new album: “It was a very introspective time”
Музыка
Sam Fender has discussed how lockdown gave him the chance to mine new emotional and personal depths while recording his second album.
The singer, who released ‘Seventeen Going Under’ last month, explained how his songwriting took an introspective turn after the first coronavirus lockdown forced him to remain indoors.

Sam represents what English lads are all about this is who they are, you won't find them with suits on unless someone has died or getting married, they are still friends with the guys they went to school with, their not pretentious, they will still go kick a football about on the common or on the beach. I had 5 brothers and every single one of them was like Sam, I now have 4 sons and they to are the same. They are loyal they love their MAM and if some are lucky enough to still have them their dad as well. He writes from the heart he takes situations and turns them into a story. I absolutely adore this man, he is REAL nothing fake about him. He has a cracking band. NME just named his Seventeen going under album, album of the year. WAY TO GO LAD
It may go a little unnoticed due to the noise but Sam is doing some truly phenomenal work here with the ballads, the slow and introspective tracks on his new album are magical. Better of Me, Last to Make it Home, The Dying Light. These tunes are very special. Lyrically, melodically, structurally, they define a kind of soul music rooted deeply in his area of upbringing. As a "lost" Northumbrian down south, it gets you in the bones.

If he cracks it with a third album(I presume he will) he will be up there with one of the greatest songwriters of the last 20 years

Exactly this. An exiled Geordie myself, I retire in 2 year and was torn between staying in Cornwall, or returning to the North East. But Sam Fenders lyrics and approach have reminded me about the North East I lived in, that I thought had gone. Coupled with the rise in the fortunes of NUFC, I am going home.

I'm jealous of his looks and talent
Could listen to him all day 🙌🏼
The songwriter of his generation imo
He's gorgeous 😍 and his music is too!
He’s very interesting to listen to!
My god, such charisma. A mix of James Dean and Marlon Brando in their younger years. And his second album is even better than the first. So happy I got to see him in the more private settings in Groningen and Utrecht and now next year he'll be playing in the HMH. I'll just keep on enjoying the videos and CD cause that's too much for me 🙈. Hope you will keep enjoying and stay with your lads forever. Stay safe and healthy 🙏🏼

What a for real kiddo! His lyrics relate to all of us and cross all generations. The real deal. Authentic and a musical genius. He's gonna be around for a long long time for sure. 🌼
So glad I found this guy! He’s incredible so refreshing to have real raw talent about especially these days
He's a phenomenal talent - I'm blown away. Stay grounded, stay humble Sam. Don't let your rocket to stardom get the best of you.
Fantastic shoot and interview in RS UK, great album!
He's a babe in talent and looks
He should break big in the US.
He was probably pissing himself to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. It's so refreshing to see someone still so much in disbelief and appreciation of how far he's come.
im so obsessed w this man
Cracking album 👏🏻 what a genuine, down to earth lad
1:31 those eyes...
absolutely perfect hair
I get major Springsteen vibes from certain songs & little bits of grunge from others. I love the new album.. I'm also a lazy bastard who spent lockdown playing on the playstation too, so I can really relate to this tbf
he is amazing 💘
Love his music

Could have been a nod to Wild Grey ocean since it wasn't included in the original release but he might have initially intended it

Wow a leather jacket, how original. That MUST mean he's a bad boy. Also funny how he has skinny arms but thinks he looks buff!!! Hilarious
