lux - For me it's not about if they are actually going to see it. Of course the companies are going to get a review, and pay attention to the video. I looked at Sean's comment more of a well deserved irony

To those that don't know, the RED and it's tripod weigh a hell of a lot and no 3 printed parts would suffice. They sell spreaders, but they can often get in the way so sometimes us filmmakers just take them off.

I've watched a train wreck. My college had a train running though the middle of campus when a tractor trailer got stuck on the tracks. The train had over a mile to stop (full breaks, sparks, horrible noise, etc) and it still hit the truck going something like 15mph and pushed it nearly a quarter mile. The phrase comes from just that fact -- you can't stop a train wreck from happening. Also, it's pretty fascinating, so you can't look away. Thankfully, no one was hurt and emergency clean up crews were waiting on scene. Everything happened as well as a bad situation can go down. Guy got stuck, called the rail yard, train that was coming instantly put on the breaks, ten minutes later impact.

I inspect the railroads and let me tell you Jake, a train wreck is a complete disaster. On the light end you may have a simple derailment that can take several hours to get the train back on the tracks. Regularly it involves someone ending up dead. W some of the worst accidents I have seen it can take a week to clean up and repair the damage, the losses are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and usually has several casualties.

  • @mesarius

One critique; for cinematography such as this, I can totally see why some studios keep the microphone on a boom. Every time the camera moves to look at a board or anything else away from Wren while he's speaking, you immediately lose audio. I don't want to say use an omni-directional mic because of other ambient noises in the room, but if you're going to film shakycam maybe have an additional fixed audio channel that isn't mounted to the camera to avoid that cutout. Or wear lapel mics.

Either way I'm game because I like my board but don't want to take it apart to convert it into a motorized board. Seems super affordable. But it's just on crowdfunding right now.

Why does Wren's "horse tastes great" line at the end randomly flash onscreen at 0:43? lol By the way, he is right - horse meat is actually pretty good, and more common than some might think.

People during the Russian revolution and the aftermath of the second world war in Germany commonly ate horses to survive because of all the food shortages. Thats two examples I can think of off the top of my head. Im sure it has happened alot more.

Hey wren, try an Evolve GT. If you like the off roadness of the one wheel, try the GT with all terrain wheels. Maybe a GTX if you like the flex of a board

I've tried the GT! It's a pretty solid board. I'm kind of over belt driven systems now though.

I just want to say that although I've never seen a trainwreck when I was circa 11 I started working at a children's railway and I have seen trains malfunction (like brakes not working or the motor braking uphill) and it's scary af.

I actually have a crap load of old tools like those in the clock shop. My mom's ex, who passed away, used to build cars so there's plenty of old tools here
