Sometimes it's more difficult to play slowly. Your brain operates very quickly by suggesting the next note or phrase from what it "hears" before; one note suggests another, one phrase suggests another, one rhythm change/anomaly calls for the next. That's been my experience. I just try to let my conscious mind get in the background and let the music speak.

Among modern inventors of melody, Oscar Peterson has no rival. That is because he entered the scene at a time when melodic invention was the principal improvisatory paradigm. When Art Tatum, who was the superior musician overall, matured as an artist, the melodic paradigm in jazz had not yet taken shape. Both piano masters are beyond compare.

@@younique90 Nina - at the time still only known by her birth name of Eunice Kathleen Waymon, as she didn't take her stage name until a few years afterwards - attended Juilliard (studying classical piano) in 1950. She applied to Curtis the following year and was not accepted. There's no way to know what role, if any, race might have played in this. It needs to be noted that Curtis had accepted black applicants prior to this time. Also, Curtis is exceptionally difficult to get in to, and traditionally many of it's attendees are child prodigies. FWIW, at 18 (Nina's age at the time of her audition), she would have been past the window when she would have been considered a "prodigy".

All three were great musicians. Recently I've been interested in Martin Drew's delicate drum play. I've never seen a drummer watching other players as much as he did.
Dear people Who listen to IT.....salute❤
When you feel like it's you playing, it's music.
Absolutely fantastic performance!
I keep coming back to this for the ultimate thrill of awesome musicians. I'm sad as I never saw them in a live performance. Just perfection!
Absolute masterpiece !! pure beauty ,,,the coordination with the drums is just too perfect . it´s a trio of geniuses and a Guru on the piano !!!
Still listening to this in '24. So beautiful to watch and listen to, on so many levels. I am blessed.
Damnnnn. I wish I could've seen Oscar live.
Like the shots of Perterson's hands playing alongside the reflection of NHOP's hand on the piano.
Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world. Now, you are in the pantheon of other jazz greats who are no longer with us: Ellington, Tatum, Tyner, Marsallis.
Man, Pederson tears that bass up! Amazing player.
I got into Oscar’s music by inheriting some vinyls of my late father - about 40 years ago, while dad was still alive, but gave away his small jazz collection & focussed on classical music (primarily Bach). Most likely this is how Bach would play today - just great music.
Yes, bow to him
Jusqu'à 03:40, c'est déjà fantastique... Mais depuis 03:40, ça devient carrément PRODIGIEUX !... Music at his best and at his finest !!!
(from France) Oscar Peterson I say, thank you for such genious piano inspiration with Jazz Sebastian Bach.
MAGIC !!! TODAY 90 YEARS AGO when OSCAR PETERSON (August 15, 1925 - December 23, 2007) was born... He was a Canadian jazz pianist and composer. He was called the "Maharaja of the keyboard" by Duke Ellington

@@jeanettesdaughter Wouldn't be surprised.
They're diggin' it, I'm diggin' it, and I'm sure Bach would dig it
Superb Oscar & friends !
One can listen to them tirelessly. Authentic, meaning-dense, free. Thank you for uploading.
@jonjonjonmw3 I was so lucky to see him in Ramatuelle - France, live concert I guess it was in 1995 or 1996. It was so amazing and marvelous, like a dream. The first time I saw him was in Paris, salle Pleyel probably 1985... alone at the piano, and I thought he was a wizard... What a superb piano player above all.
Good grief, this is not only a brilliant performance, but one of the best piano suites ever written. I love that he didn't even include a black key until the 5th prelude.
Bach is the compositional GOAT. Oscar is the improvisational GOAT. This is both worlds coming together.
Listening to them is a privilege, it only makes us stronger.
hohoooo....how i love the starting of the drumms (4:30). Buuuuhhhh.....i cant sit still....I am only happy....Thank you very much old gentlemen. Thank you. heaven exists. : ))))) And this feeling for free on u tube? no money ? something is very wrong in this world.
Love Bach and Oscar's Trio😊
Among modern inventors of melody, Oscar Peterson has no rival. That is because he entered the scene at a time when melodic invention was the principal improvisatory paradigm. When Art Tatum, who was the superior musician overall, matured as an artist, the melodic paradigm in jazz had not yet taken shape. Both piano masters are beyond compare.
if we could collect souls and give life to both Oscar and Niels, I will die right now!

Astounding. And beautiful. Bravo!
Genius, best jazz trio ever seen - this is what it's all about.
incredible.......... and quite a solo from NHOP, too. Wow.
Fantastic trio. This is real music!!!!
the whole recording is eargasm (o_O)
What a fabulous pianist and musician!
NHOP intonation is crazily accurate
Just beautiful!
It’s effortless. He is simply the best.
c'est dommage que se soit pas plus long ! c'est tellement beau ! JE CRAQUE ! en Anglais: It’s a shame it wasn’t longer! it's so beautiful I CRACK
What a band of great musicians!
I think Bach saluted right back!.
Masterpiece! Love it love it love it!
danke friskounet !! oskar and his trio always make my day, lift my spirit up like J.S.Bach always do.

So, so, wonderfully wonderful.
Beautiful! Thx for sharing!
wonderful
Since I think my love for both Bach and jazz are equal this performance is phenomenal.. pure genius 🎶🎹 ❤️
vanea; not "dead", just gone from us, as is Martin Drew (and Joe Pass who was one of this amazing group of musicians for many years). They were the best at their instrument a la genré individually. Together, they "Breathed as One" as was often said of the Count Basie Band. I really appreciate the good quality of this video which allows me to catch the little details like when M.D. changes subtly and unostentatiously from brushes to sticks @ about 5.02
The best: absolute elegance and freedom!
i simply love the Harmony and Oscar!!!!
This is beautiful
Wow! Now that was PERFECT. I don't know anything about Bach but if Oscar Peterson liked his music he must be worth 'checking out.' Nobody grooved or cooked better than Peterson. He is the reason there are so many great JATP recordings and all the great Verve recordings. Man he played GREAT!
Kind of reminds me of one of Nina Simone’s performances where she is playing jazz and suddenly lapses into Bach. Brilliant!

I've never heard anybody play the "passing" cymbal like Martin Drew -wonder what Baby Dodds would ha' made of this -bet he'd ha' loved it (how could you not)!
GREAT !! THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING !!
NHOP’s bass solo is Thrilling ! ! ❣️❣️❣️
GORGEOUS!
