Trading the opportunity for Will to build a homestead in exchange for labor help around your main looks like a good way to get some projects done much easier. Always good to have a like minded laborer on hand

I'm grandma age. I see a skinny little kid that didn't get the love and direction he needed. He was trying at his previous attempts. With so much lazy and drugged up these days, u gotta give the kid his dues for trying. I think he was living off energy drinks and likely has some sort of parasite from the things he was eating. He needs a full work up from doctor, a cleanse, and meds. Nate and Jen's hospitality may be the most loving gesture he has had. So far, they had him get cleaned up, and eating Jen's homemade and nourishing cooking. Also giving him a steady wage. It isn't their responsibility, since he is of age. But they grounded people, and we have the responsibility to take care of those who need it. I truly hope it is a very positive situation. @@lusciouslunk

Got a couple beautifully large mulleins growing behind Will when he’s juggling! If you take some leaves to dry out, it is a good tea to brew when one is congested! Helps to get move mucus out and get you breathing again. Pick a few of those nice fuzzy leaves and rinse them off if need be but don’t scrub, dry out the leaves in open air & once they’re crispy you can store somewhere airtight like a jar or baggie. when you need to make some tea just crumble some up and brew into a cup of hot water! has a nice green taste. the flower stalks can also be dried and dipped in wax after they go to seed to make a torch. gets the nickname “Witches Candle” from this :)

Nate, I tie strips of surveyor tape in long ribbons off of tree branches around my berries. It helps keep the deer away as long as there's a slight breeze to move them. I love how happy Will seems to be there with you and Jen. Much love & admiration from Northern Alberta Canada!💕

Hey Nate! While the fence is a good idea, it should be at least 8 feet tall, in a double row about 4 feet apart, to keep deer out. However, this won't keep the raccoons or groundhogs out. And with the berries, birds will clean your bushes and vines pretty fast. So maybe a cage, or netting, over those would be a good idea. Best of luck to you!

Right behind the guy juggling,, is a plant called the mullein plant.. it's a medicinal plant.. good for the lungs.. if you have a lot of that growing on your property.. you might want to consider harvesting some of it processing it.. packaging it and selling it..
Oh how I love homestead updates!!! 💜💜
You should consider a plant called Jerusalem artichokes. It's native to the US. Very hardy. And has edible roots that are similar to potatoes.
@MyCleverHandle
25 күн бұрын
Also known as Sunchokes. A member of the Rudbeckia (perennial sunflower) genus. Yes, the tubers (rootstock) can be a potato-like substitute, with starches that won't convert instantly to sugar that can put a diabetic into shock - but be prepared for unpleasant aftereffects. They're commonly called "fartichokes".

Will is a beast !! Love you guys
I've no idea what's native to your area, but the shaded areas at the edge of your main living area would probably work really well for a whole load of berry bushes. My father tried that and now has blackberries, rasberries, logan berries, gooseberries, and a bunch of others I can never remember. He's in his later years and loves them for how much fruit he gets and how low maintenance they are.
love CATTLE panels, hope they keep the plants safe!

@@MyCleverHandle from Google: "Yes, daylilies are highly toxic to cats and can be fatal. All parts of the daylily plant are toxic, including the leaves, flowers, stem, pollen, and even the water in a vase. Cats can become poisoned by eating a small amount of a leaf or flower, licking pollen off their fur while grooming, or drinking water from a vase. Chewing on the plant can also release crystals that irritate the mouth and oral cavity." Better safe than sorry!

@MyCleverHandle a quick google search says that daylilies are still highly toxic to cats. I wouldn't want to bring any type of lily in the house nor have it anywhere near a cat or dog might roam. The stem, leaves, flowers, pollen, everything, even the water that is touching is toxic. To this day I'm sure this is what took away my cat, who was hearty and feisty and never got sick, until now. There was not a wound on her body. It says it takes 3 days for their bodies to shut down and it aligned to the day when some gardening was done in which lilies were being removed. Don't learn it my way. I hope he removes the lilies. She wasn't supposed to go so soon. she had so much of her life ahead of her. Rest in peace, Rabbit.

You might want to male sure those fences are TALL. it took an 7ft fence to keep deer out of my aunts garden, and my dad keeps up an 8ft fence.
That spider was cool
Heading right over ✌️
Instead of the cattle paneling, wouldn’t it be easier/cheaper/faster to use simple pool code (green chicken wire) fencing with the corresponding metal posts u ram into the ground? It’s not as heavy duty but should still do the job just as effectively. Also, depending on your native soil I would highly suggest “amending the soil” for each plant as you install them. Meaning: dig the hole, mix in some compost or promix or manure or all 3, before dropping the plant in the ground. Then I would lay down a bit of mulch afterwards for both nutrients & moisture retention given how hot & dry summers can be in your area. Just my 2¢ as a former landscape designers assistant.
BTW, that Day Lilly is gorgeous!! I love the burgundy color. I have beautiful pink Stargazer Day Lillies that one of my daughters and grandchildren gave me for Mother's day 20 years ago. The pink is so soft and gorgeous, deep in color this year. I didn't know they were edible. How do you use them? Tia ☺
@MyCleverHandle
25 күн бұрын
Stargazer lilies ARE POISONOUS. Just like EASTER lilies, TIGER lilies and CASABLANCA lilies. And other types of "florist's" lilies, like most gift plant types at the local grocery store. If they have a noticeable fragrance, they ARE POISONOUS. In short, if you don't know, don't eat. Different genus than DAY lilies.
You will need 2 fences, about 2 to 3 feet apart, to keep the deer out. Or you can lay the panels down, a few inches above ground, to keep them out.
