Awesome. Thank you for watching!
I seed my ranks with a few handfuls of substrate from a cycled tank.
Thanks for taking the time to do this

Thank you for watching.
we have a water softener.. how does that impact the need or the cleaning of the RODI? good for the saltwater solution? Or use spigot water from outside that is not on the water softener system (salt pellet version)
I've got a 60 gallon, fish only tank (3 currently). PH-8.20 Temp- 80 Ammonia- 0 Alk- 80 Nitrite-0 Nitrate-60+ Sal- 1.026 I have live rock, I have little algae and the water is crystal clear. I do regular water changes with RO. I have 2 jets to circulate one is pointed up to ripple the water surface. For the life of me i cannot get the Nitrate level down. I also don't know why my hardness is up where it is. Any thoughts?

Hey Mike and thanks for the question. This is so funny because I've also struggled with Nitrate recently big time! Not only on my 120 gallon, but on my neighbors 70 gallon as well. For my neighbor, I tried adding ceramic media, skimming 24 hours a day, carbon dosing, and using various Nitrate reducing products and nothing worked! The only thing that worked was to do a 50% water change. On my 120 gallon tank, I've been able to get it under control with a large water change, skimming 24 hours a day, adding ceramic media, and adding macroalgae. I suspect that since I used old live rock, that possibly it has been leaching out. The thing about Nitrate is it has to turn to nitrogen gas in order to leave your tank, and that only occurs with anaerobic bacteria. So if there just isn't enough bacteria, it won't happen. So you might need to do a big water change, like 50%, and get a protein skimmer. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching!
Why always rodi I always use tap water with conditioner and been going for 10 years
I've read that RODI units love high water pressure for better efficiency; I'm on well water 45 - 65 lbs., think I'm gonna need a pump at my RODI.
Macroalgae in a refugium or isolated in the main tank can uptake ammonia completely and aid in cycling. The biofilm living on the macroalgea will also help with the tank cycling. Also, did I spy the Salton Sea?

@@MyFirstFishTank They really are - I remember the pelicans catching thermals and the smell of brine. I wonder if any copepods are native to the Salton Sea. I never did find out.
