I really appreciate the upgrade on the format of this video. Having the extra camera angles, showing the board and pictures of the items being discussed, zooming in on each of you when it's your turn. Great stuff!

I am looking forward to playing this one. These small box Devir games are almost instant-buys for me. That is a lot of game for $32.

I just snagged this this week when in came back into stock (before it sold out again). At the low price point, I didn't have to hem and haw either. Glad to hear it rated a 7.5 with you!

Uuuuh been looking forward to this review. Tom from DT trashed it but having watched a Heavy Cardboard playthrough it looked like very very good. Also the price point is crazy low. I really can get behind games in such boxes with higher complexity

Oh, wow! Didn’t know Tom disliked it so much! It’s not the best game ever, but the money mechanism is super clever, and the gameplay is interesting!

I quit listening to Tom for game recommendations at least a year ago. We clearly do not agree. I've traded away most of the games I bought on his seal of approval.

For me it feels very similar to a full fledged lacerda game but in a smaller package. Though it does feel a bit too procedural (as do a lacerda game imo) it does allow enough Branching strategies. It also has some of the best cut wood tokens I've seen with components and graphic design all top notch. I like it.

You could argue that theming the game around the Salton Sea has given the issue more exposure and therefore the possibility to impact future decision making around similar development opportunities

It definitely has given more exposure around the Salton Sea although I found the presentation of the theme to be heavily leaned towards the green energy resource side and not the social impact side of the situation. I recommend anyone to dig into the history and potential future of the Salton Sea, absolutely fascinating.

What a totally dreadful theme for a board game. Salton Sea is in South East California and over a period of 50 years neglect and chemical poisoning has turned it into an environmental catastrophe for the region causing terrible health consequences for the local population. The gameplay itself may be fine but it’s very disappointing that Devir has chosen to publish a game with this theme.

I'm very upset with Devir for dropping the ball and doing 0% research on what is actually one of the biggest ongoing ecological disasters in my state that still affects thousands and have the gall to throw in this flavor text about mining lithium being "ecologically friendly". And to throw salt (pun intended) in the wound, a FOUR PAGE flavor text by some geologist who doesn't even mention the actual humans who still live around the Salton Sea whose lives have been affected OR the manmade aspects that have contributed to the sea's abnormal salinity (and how has killed basically almost all the wildlife that used to live there) AND the mining that has contributed to dust storms, all of which have caused several generations to have debilitating asthma from the compromised air quality. I know this is just a pasted on theme for an economic game, but even a simple google search would have unveiled this information. Shame on their development team for not being more responsible and contributing to the now 50+ years of government failure and erasure to address the crisis

I totally understand your frustration😞 I don ´t live in the US, but I have seen a report on this area - it is so sad. When I heard about that game, I was wondering WHO on earth had got the idea for THAT theme 😮 I totally disapprove. But as you can see: this game has already sold out at one point so there seem to be many people who enjoy it 😕

@@b.2194 It's a topic that not even many people in the States are aware of, as it's a fairly remote place. But that makes it all the worse, because I think if you are going to theme your game and claim it is "ecological", you have a responsibility to educate and do your due diligence (whether it's pasted on or not). I don't think anybody should be judged for enjoying the game; I'm sure it's good and it's up to individuals whether they can look past it or not. My only hope is that Devir would make some room in that 4 page flavor text for some of the human cost of the Salton Sea, which is a direct result of government mismanagement and continued erasure of those who still live there and are actually affected by this. The least they could do is use the opportunity to spread awareness.

I absolutely agree 💯 but unfortunately the area could potentially allow the US to be dependent of foreign resources like chile or Australia for lithium mining. With the future moving into electric power, greed will surely trump any social impact it may have. Devir should have done a bit more homework.
