Well the principle is old as the electricity, still Alessandro Volta with his piles has used the same principle later used in the carbon-zinc batteries. I think that it'll be equivalently environmentally friendly and cheap to power the lantern with carbon-zinc cells.

santiago vindell that is salt water lamp! volta invented the same principle but in Zinc Sulpate not in Salt, as A battery, ok?? where the heck will find Zinc Sulfate? Salt is more accesable right? Salt battery is what being demonstrated here not alensandro's ok? Shame on you

Im a filipino but im sick and tired of hearing statements and claims that a filipino woman invented the saltwater lamp/lantern . I think it would be safe to say that a filipino engineer made a version of a saltwater lamp but to say other wise is purely in appropriate. Dont get me wrong i love my country and my fellow filipino , but its so wrong to make such claims.
