Salt & Tar: Episode 88-Because it's Badass

Alright. We've raised our main mast. Still one more mast to go and countless other projects. It's always weird after accomplishing a milestone. A sort of "now what" moment. Then you realize, "Everything else!" That's what. We get back to a few other started projects, weather permitting, and look forward towards the ones we've yet to start. We get a few ports in, we restart the cabin planking project, assess the rigging needs for the main mast, and get excited about one-day starting the bowsprit hardware. The show must go on!
Cheers everyone!

That was some serious back pocket work on the mast boot. You are a fine. boat Wright, with a good crew. Ruth is always so pleasant to the viewers. It feels like she is inviting us to pitch in and she carefully explains what the plan is before you begin. You have a real winner there. Good women are hard to find, and when you do find one grab her by the ear and never let go. God speed....

Ahh, another 'Rainy day indoor' project, weaving (sewing, knitting?) the bowsprit net by hand! All you need is a net maker's shuttle and ten years of experience! Nah, I learned pretty fast, they weren't 'factory' neat, but they caught us bait fish on the beach... She does look so much more 'Two Years Before the Mast' with her Sprit in place, You just have to start carving the nekkid mermaid to go beneath it...

I have been watching you guys, Tally Ho & Acorn to Arabella from the beginning. All from a mariners prospective. Years ago I had a set of plans to build a 35' Spray (Joshua Slocum). Other things got in the way of that project. After watching all of you guys building your boats I think back, 'man I had no idea the scope and dedication it took to complete such a project'. I have had several boats. Sail and power. Buy the way I'm a really good sailor and boat handler. Lived on a 52' Trawler for 14 years. I ran boats in the oil field (up to 130' work boats). So yes its in my blood. At 72 years old I have to live my dreams of building and cruising through you guys. So, hurry up and get sailing. On a side note, I can't understand why you haven't made a temporary ladder from the main deck to the the saloon. Ya'll are wearing me out crawling in and out of the living area. :) Keep the dream alive. Ruth, I, think Garrett knows what a great mate he has in you. Capt. Andy

Oh, Yeah! Love the bowsprit. Nothing says "shippy" like a bowsprit!! I pulled my mast for a refit and had to replace the Boot. The bottom, though tacked, should have a cord cinched tight around it. The deck block should have notch in it to cinch the cord into. Tar or paint. I ended up using about a 100 feet of 3/8 line and making a 6 inch Turks Head around the mast boot top. Looked cool. I'm sure you'll do cool stuff to your liking.
