I can’t believe how you can build a boat from scratch and then she sails flawlessly. I mean it’s the perfect dream. Garrets skills in this matter is outstanding. CONGRATS to Rediviva and to her handsome crew members Super Cool 🤙🏼 😎👌
Discretion is the better part of valor. You have invested 7 years of your sweat equity of quality craftsmanship into this fine sailing vessel, there is no rush to set world sailing records at the expense of your well-being. Sailing was made to enjoy, not endure. Enjoy this adventure, millions would be glad to trade places with you any day! Fair winds!
Ran a Coast Guard 82ftr out of Santa Barbara from 88' to 90' - Love the Channel Islands and all respect to Point Conception!
the best sailors are the smart sailors--so glad you waited. take care you two.
The pure enjoyment on Garret's face was a joy to behold. He has earned it. (Ruth too of course)
"Happy Sails to You...Until we meet again".....you must feel a Gr8 sense of accomplishment for simple freedom...Cheerz
I watch about 8 sailing channels. They are all very good, but yours is my favorite. I feel like I could have been one of you in a different lifetime. Much love will help part the waves.
Wow great sail. It's the culmination of all your efforts. When I watched this I found myself lean over when you tacked, willing the sail over. Thanks guys.
"That's" what it's all about, sailing! Great Vlog. Thanks for sharing.
It's been a real pleasure to watch you build your boat, put your hearts and souls into her, watching you sail is the cherry on top. What a treat! Thank you for sharing.
Continue to love you guys...your joy brings us joy!!!!!
Great seeing the sails full of wind.
It’s great to tag along on this wonderful adventure!! Love this channel! Fair winds ⛵️
Another groovy sailing video.. Stay safe and stay groovy.
🍻🍻🍻sailing fun , epic jam session 🤘🤘🤘⛈⛈
Excellent ,the adventure continues 👍👍👍
I just keep looking at all of the different parts of her. And remembering all of the time and dedication and choices that were given to each individual part. And now it's all one big thing that SAILS!! I'm so happy for not only you two but for the entire community around this channel. The comments are so heartwarming. Your viewers are totally into Rediviva!! As am I. Sail on Ruth and Garret. Sail on...
Love that heavy air footage. Just plain fun!
Thanks for sharing part of your wonderful life! No pun inteded.
it's so great seeing you enjoying sailing her. I am very happy for you guys !
Finally...Daisy Dukes has arrived, and she's quite fetching!
The smile on Garrett’s face says it all! ❤
That was major major fun👍👍👍👍👍!!!
So rewarding to have watched from laying the keel, designing and fabricating the chine, transporting and eventually launching.
Dad says, there are bold sailors and old sailors but there are no "Old Bold" sailors. Cheers, Frank and dad

My daddy (a flight instructor) said that about airplane pilots too. The decision to turn tail and scurry back to (air)port has probably saved many an arse, including my own.

My uncle would disagree . He was still sailing up and down the coast in a 50 year old ketch at 80 . Finally his eye site left him . The boat got the nick name " the old girl that always makes it home "

Pilots! 🙃Pilots not sailors. Well in my flying family that's the phrase.😅
Love that Gaff Rig.💕
That last shot... auOOOOOOOOoooooooo... sunset cruise ending on a full moon rise...
Excellent handling boat.
That looked like it was a blast
As several people have already commented on, I applaud your wisdom in waiting for a better weather window. My favorite saying for this is "discretion is the better part of valor," by my old friend Bill (Shakespeare.)
Amazing and beautiful footage as always. 💓
Amazing and beautiful footage as always. Love seeing you so happy! 💓
Wetting your wooden decks with a bucket of seawater before refuelling will prevent Diesel stains, any diesel splashes won't soak into the wood.
Now THAT is beautiful!
Also... knowing how to set the sails (and having designed the boat so you could) so she steers herself... serious bad-assery. I knew the way the sails were trimmed had a lot to do with the way the big square-riggers were steered, but I had no idea it scaled down so far. Very cool.
You guys are fricken rockstars. I live vicariously through your adventures.

Why do the Yanks say Fricken when they mean something else ?
Nice sound work on that jam session! Ruth. You started out as a good film-maker, you're now definitely excellent, pro-level. 👍
Soooo good! Love you both and your sailing prowess❤
True ..that was the best...sail full and on the lean...well done you two...
Pure Joy!!!
It’s cool you guys were playing wagon wheel, the town mentioned in that song is where I live. Johnson city tn.
Great to see you two so happy! Great video
You two guys have taken this channel to a level that makes it almost impossible to miss one . Without sounding like a patronising old fart I must say that each week I find myself hanging out to see you guys. Simply put you, as a couple are inspiring , brave and the essence perseverance. A couple committed to each other and to a life worth living . Gods speed
I dig that you drive it like a dirt bike.
Its crazy to think how excited I am to see her sailing, and how many years I waited, I was still in high school when I started following y'all. That being said, I didn't have to build her! It's amazing watching you guys sail Redivia!
Ruth is a pretty good wind(ing) lass !
Congratulations, you made it to a warm climate at last!
I'm still getting used to you guys actually sailing Rediviva. Garrett seems to be happy and in his element. Ruth's narration is insightful and compelling as usual and her cinematography and editing provide a beautiful aesthetic.
Have a great trip down Baja. Maybe will see you on the malecon in LaPaz
I have been operating 30 years commercially on the water and I still hate the fog, dark operation. I have good equipment, yet still feel so handicapped.
Looks like "California Dream'in" to me. Nice job...
What a great new intro - Brava!
SOOOO SOOO stoked for you guys. Good call on the weather, the most dangerous thing on the water is a schedule. She sails well and tracks like a laser!!
Hello you two. I LOVE YOUR SPIRIT AND YOUR PROFESSIONALISM. MAKE YOUR LOVE FOR EACH OTHER LAST. Please make it happen❤❤❤❤
Maybe consider using your battery drill for your manual windlass raising the anchor, i know i would👍 Beautiful seals 🦭 Damn good judgement turn around 👍 Your sailing for pleasure......
Always good to play it safe
God, she looks beautiful on the water
Making music with you guys in avila was one of the highlights of my summer! Loved meeting you both and so eager to continue to follow your journey south. Much love! ♥️ -Hillary
Better and better and better...you drag such powerful emotion out of me...what the heck...? My wife wonders why i am so emotional. Love you guys. 7 years? Wow. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful journey. (NZ Fan)
19:24 Oh my Goodness. If you look just a bit more intimidating towards your notebook it will self ignite ! :-)
Hey now, don't slam Wagon Wheel. Every time I play it, the crowd loves it. I kinda do too. We've got those little plastic inserts in the links of the chain. You might give 'em a try, they're cheap, highly visible, and we've had them for several years now.
I saw conception one day in the 80s. Current was RIPPING upswell, waves close together and steep! Very uniform 5 to 8 foot .white caps. A bloody spanking! Wise decision....from my front porch anyways.
Fuel Docks, I think - They either have some hellatious tides there or they are preparing for global warming! Fun sail at the end there!
God I am so jealous, love your life (and sundowners) ❤❤
So good. So so so good! 🎊 🎉😊
As a kid I went all the way through Scouting. While my Dad was the Ranger at Pismo /beach state Park, the Sea Explorer Post was 'officially' SLO, but our club house was a cool little shack with port holes and hatches and navy style racks for over-nighters. We "owned" the Avila pier as high school boys. Our shack on the Avila pier was the coolest playhouse ever.
Love this transition been with yall since Washington days!
another fabulous Video. thank you for sharing
If in doubt, DONT GO OUT!!! Smart decision!
Now that looks like fun.
Garrett and Ruth, Great video. Heeling over; a nice sail. Cheers! Blue Skies, Fair Winds, and Following Seas. Faithfully, James
This is your best vlog ever, EVER! Loved it start to finish !!!!
Beautiful.
Awesome video, great music, great content. Your photography is very good. I really enjoyed this.
When she is talking and their engine idling, my subwoofer goes nuts. LOL.
When I see you both Enjoying the fruit of your hard earned labor, I get all choked up! knowing that you both now have this beautiful vessel that you can be thoroughly proud of, and use for the rest of your lives is just amazing when you really think about it. Its just so cool.
After years and years of building it must be so rewarding to see and feel the boat function as planned - and sometimes even beyond expectations. The grin on Garret´s face says it all ...🤟
Smart, smart, smart. You've got lots of time..
I see radar and AIS must be on the list pretty soon.
So right on the weather. I'm 64 and I've been sailing since I was 14. It isn't the bad weather that kills you, it's having a schedule that puts you in the bad weather that kills you. I'm really enjoying your videos. I can't wait to see how your adventure goes!
Must be proud of her, I can only remember watching the sail maker on the east coast stitching her sails! Now she's flying full on the west coast bay! SAIL ON!
Nice tack, guys!
Merci, et bon vent...
Great episode. Caution seems prudent. I was also thinking a sun deck for the seals would be kind of cool, although probably somewhat impractical.... Great to see the incremental improvements.
I thought I had a picture of you in PSL but, alas, it was a similar boat but with a few differences such as crows nests. This was on May 24 with my grandson having lunch on the pier.
Who needs a power windlass when you have a Ruth??? RUTH!!!
that was nice to view at 2am.......
We always used to like we will be their two days W P , weather permitting
Seasoned cruisers know you do as the weather permits. You two are soo in tune I am continually impressed. You have a lot of years of doing what you both love.
WOW! What a boat! This is so different from any other “splash” I’ve ever been involved in, or seen. It’s just so much more meaningful when you have your very souls vested in it, I’ve never enjoyed or been so anxious as a spectator either!
Man I miss being off the coast of California. I remember the California swells and they rode in on time just like a metronome! I also remember going from the red lights to daylight and that morning feeling you get when you are out at sea.
So rewarding to have watched from laying the keel, designing and fabricating the chine, transporting and eventually launching. So glad to take the next leg of the trip.
Oh thanks! My weekly 'Salt & Tar" Fix! Luv you guys! Drunkin Ira 'Hayes'
High on life!
Man that was a rollercoaster journey and I loved every minute of it. Fantastic edit- you both rock!
Love this episode. Wise move going back into the port with the bad weather forecast. If you don't have to go, and sometimes when you do, it is the better part of discretion to stay put. With the length of Garrett's hair, he needs a tricorn hat, a cutlass and you need to start flying the Jolly Roger. Take care and best wishes for fair winds and smooth seas.
Good to see the chafing gear up. I watched 2 times.
Smart, smart, smart, smart decision to turn her around. Respect.
Nice ride!
You guys build yourself an amazing sailing vessel All that hard work paid off I remember when I first start watching your program when you were still in Washington after you I don’t know what it’s called I’m going to say the rib cage of the boat
