I appreciate honesty. I think that the idea of super shoes for slower runners is ok, this subgroup is slowly forming itself, Salomon was simply the first to advertise such shoes. For now, we have too many great shoes that are not suitable for heelstrikers. They are left to wear (super)training shoes or more forgiving shoes like sc elite v4 or saucony ep4

Looking healthy girl. Lots of big shoe releases coming in the next couple months ! Don't have Salomon shoes locally, wish I could try some on.

I think the idea of a mid-packer supershoe has merit, but the price point a little off the mark. I mean, if the Phantasm is $275, I guess the S-Lab Spectur at $220 isn’t *too* bad, but I think $200 like the Superblast would be more appropriate. I guess we can’t expect $180, but hey, that’d be nice too. I also wholeheartedly agree with you, Emily, about wearing supershoes if you like supershoes, no matter the pace or distance. Life is too short to not run in what you like!

Good honest review! I suspect that there's even more variation from person to person among recreational runners than elites, and we can see that some Nike pros prefer the original Alphafly to the Alphafly 3 while others go for one version or another of the Vaporfly, and that Emily Sisson wears the SC Pacer rather than the SC Elite. I wouldn't expect any model of shoe to be ideal for every four hour marathoner either. But as you say, it looks great and seems to be well made and there might be runners out there who will really love it. Some of the controversy I've seen over this shoe might be coming from runners who are on a fantasy sports trip and don't like being told that they shouldn't wear exactly what the pros wear. When you're doing it on your own dime, that's legitimate too. At the end of the day, this is supposed to be fun.

I think the concept is right. My running mechanics at 9min/mile is different than someone running 6min/mile. Look at the cadence, heel kick, stride length, etc. If they can engineer something specific for me and my mechanics, then that's great. They may fail on the execution and marketing of it, but I think the concept is there. Conversely, the NB SC Trainer V2, catered to your mechanics and pace (and mine), but they didn't market them as such. And you thought that was a better choice than the NB racers. So maybe it's just a marketing problem?

I love my SC Trainer v2s (got them partly on your recommendation) and have close to 200 miles in them. I'm likely to get the SC Trainer v3 in August and may even run my marathon in October in them. Thanks for the review, I've been curious about this one.

As a fellow over-pronator, i love the run footage. It helps me determine if a shoes is goin to work for me. It looks like you were over-pronating in some of the views. I think i can skip this shoe. Great review.

What I’d love is a shoe with a full stack of top racing foam on a wider/ more stable base with a more comfortable upper. So trading off weight for comfort but not materials or energy return. Basically give me a plated Superblast 😅

I don't see why anyone would buy this when you can find the Boston 12 for $70 if you look around.

I think the concept is a failure. For carbon plate to work, you need to be at certain high speed to exert sufficient pressure to activate the plate. A 4hr marathoner can be done in many shoes like 1080v13, Mach 6, More v4, ESpeed 3/4, Hyperion (Max/tempo/nil).

I really like the idea of these shoes, but no one has the concept right..take the topo specter, thin version, and get the foam softer or better yet a dual foam midsole and you have a ever person's marathon running shoe..I have and I use ever top end shoe on the market and NONE of them work well..too hard, too hot,,too narrow, too wide, too much drop, too heavy, too fragile, too shallow toe box,too much arch no arch..the Salomon is too hot,too much drop, and not enough forefoot cushioning..once again someone has the right idea but can't put the whole package together..pretty much what happens when you design by committee instead from someone who knows marathon shoes..
