I've had a theory that Cordelia opened up the school and ended up getting to the point where she was going to find the next Supreme. She found her, but doing the Seven Wonders reminded her of Misty's death too much, so after the next Supreme took over, she ran away, and became Sally. She lived in the Hotel Cortez so none of the other witches could look for her, and was constantly looking for love because she found it with Misty but lost it so quick. That's why when Queenie was killed in the fifth season that Cordelia didn't come to look for her; she was already there as Sally. When Cordelia got to tge hotel she could see Sally's ghost. She disuised herselfI as Sally so if anyone came to look for her they'd see one person instead of her and Sally's ghost. Thst way it seems like one woman. I know it's probably not true but it's just a wild guess. Edit: It's not possible since season eight started.

Also Sally died in the hotel in the 1994. Cordelia became Supreme in 2014.

This is so fucking beautiful, omg, and that ending, THE ENDING MY HEART MY FEELS WHY Dude the AU tho, but imagine how great of a hook, and link between season 3 and 5, it would be, like, for real. And Cordelia would follow her mom's steps: be so heart broken she wouldn't be able to care about anything after she lost Misty, then she'd be less and less insterested on the Coven's matters, become a shitty supreme just like Fiona, run away and turn her life into absolut trash.
