Guys.. stop complaining about her costume.. Fursuits are very pricey and not everyone can buy one. And not everyone is creative enough to make one either. If she had a fursuit on, her whole performance would look awful. Her character would also look terrible due to her trying to take the doll look. So stop complaining about the costume. Her performance was beautiful and I don't think she was intending on winning. I think she just wanted to go and dance and show off her hard work

I totally agree, but this is a FURSUIT dance. Not a mask dance. I don't want to hate on this amazing performance, but really, the other competitors had it much harder with the heavy costumes and she just had a mask.

Look, she had talent and whether you agree or not she deserved that win. She showed character in her dance and kept that character going even after. THAT'S refreshing. If you have beef then take it up with the prelims judges. I say kudos to her! Sometimes if you encounter backlash, it means you're on the road to great things. I can see her going places. Keep on keepin' on. You can't win everyone over but you've got fans. Keep bein' awesome.

+Absolem23 Yes, indeed. I'd like to add to that, too. When you are young adults and people are kind to you, telling you you're amazing at this or that. As we mature, we become our own character. Some characters are hated and told cruel things... in my personal opinion that's how we know we're growing. We're leaving the 'You're amazing at everything' standpoint. Some people will try to bring down a shooting star, but that only means they can't handle how brightly the star is glowing.

Absolem23 she does have talent, but it's a fursuit dance competition not a mask dance competition and it's not fair because everyone in the dance competition are wearing fursuits and fursuits can be hard to dance in it and she is the only one with a mask which is unbalanced. So I don't think she should be 1st place because she basically cheating

To ANYONE who has anything to say about this NOT being a fursuit. There were NO RULES posted about suits for the dance competition so it was left to the discretion of the prelims Judges. The furry doll cosplay was okay-ed for being furry themed. This win fit in 100% with the rules that were posted and deserved the win over the other competitors for showing a level of performance which NO ONE at this competition matched. I can't wait until she has a suit to preform in.

kitari69 I guess I should rephrase that. As it was still a fursuit competition (A fursuit being an animal costume made from various materials which can be a simple tail and ears or a full fursuit.) it was restricted to fursuits. They had no specific guidelines listed on partials, fullsuits, tails and ears, etc. So it was left up to the discretion of the prelims judges to determine if the competitors costume fit into the competition. If you believe a suit handicaps your performance then you need to work harder on your dancing, suit handicap is a myth. All in all, completely fair win, not unfair to any of the other competitors. No one out-shined this performance or matched this level of performance. If you would like I can explain exactly why this placed first.

R O you just admitted you’ve never danced in suit. If you think that she had the restrictions as someone in suit, you have no idea what you are talking about.

I want to turn everyone's attention to 2:16 . Notice that? It's applause... a MASSIVE amount. I was there, and she had the best applause after her performance than anyone. Yes, I agree, it's out of place to be in a FURSUIT dance competition without a fursuit. Fursuits definitely can and do effect performance. HOWEVER, It's VERY clear Sally practiced extremely hard and in advance. Her moves may of been less hindered by her costume than a fursuit but her costume IS very well themed. No one can deny that she held better than most characters today. In fact, recently, most fursuiters don't even practice, they free-style! There's only ONE thing I take from this: The dance competitions NEED to be bigger! There should be a fursuit category, a costume category, and heck- even a plain category! Don't forget; Fursuit Dance Comp.s STARTED as private competitions in hallways and hotel rooms! Sally did an astounding job and should feel amazingly proud of how well she danced AND how well she dealt with character and theme. BUT a lot of the fursuiters should also be proud of how they did as well (ie, Tyzer, WolfpupTK [who had an INJURED foot], and Hogwash) - All who had astounding and entertaining performances! I think people should stop trying to change what's already done and work together to get a category system in place; Because if Sally wasn't allowed to dance next comp... I probably wouldn't attend Rainfurrest any longer, and I'd question the idea of staying in a fandom that was supposed to be accepting, caring, and encouraging of artistic talent. There's only 1 complaint I have of the dance competitio, and that's that I couldn't see some of it because of a camera man in the very front of half of us, a lot of us craning our necks to see. They should have a spot above and behind everyone that way they can get amazing footage without blocking the view some of us payed $100s to see.

Idc about everything else. Those mechanical movements in the opening movements were so perfect that I had to like.

the fact that she doesn’t have a fursuit but a mask makes the performance unique.

T^T The effort along with her every motion and positioning she had in the song synced so well together. I cried after it because this song perfectly portrays the feeling of twisted emotions and reality in it's demented form. The dance had such power with it's song and was overall more perfect than the original video.

Is it weird that all the hate, though hurtful, also inspires me to become a better dancer? Thanks to all the people who have my back though. Makes me smile to know I could bring a smile to peoples faces, and It makes me excited to show you what my plan is for next year =D

Absolutely phenomenal! Doing the whole doll motions can be really tough, and she nailed it. Very lovely costume too.

define fursuit: Fursuits are animal costumes made from various materials. They range from simple tails and ears to full costumes cooled by battery-powered fans. Fursuits can be worn for personal enjoyment, work or charity. She is a cat, therefor this can count! =D after all not all cats have tails. Look at the Manx cats~ An amazing dancer though, the way she stayed in character was spectacular! even at the very end after the dance x3

A fursuit as defined by our community relates to a partial or full suit. ears and tail sets are categorized separate. dont believe me ask around or visit auction sites. the lack of rules make it legal for her to enter, not fair I would not have pride in winning a race against 3 year olds because there was no rule to stop me from entering. She had a physical advantage over those in suit.

YES. are there rules to this comp? hell yes. did they let her in because shes wearing a costume depicting her feline character? yes. is she a good dancer and deserved to win? yes. do people in the furry fandom wear is and tails only and say its what they like, becuase they do not want a ;'fursuit'? yes. have you even done any research?? people in the fandom can wear a fucking wolf suit that looks like shit and call it their fursona, and people can wear a fucking mask if they want to if that is what their character is. those who wear fullsuits are perfectly capable of dancing like this. i dont see a single person that had competed in this not clapping for her or being proud of her. she won because people liked her, they allowed her to join, and its for fun. let me say that again: ITS FOR FUN.

kitari69 also this is taken from the rainfurrest site: Because of the incredible volume of dance competition signups, we will be holding a preliminary tryout event (day and time TBD, check your pocket programs at con). Preliminaries will have a separate panel of judges and the dance space will be closed to the public to keep your routine secret. The preliminary judges will be selecting the top 15 dancers to compete in the final competition. All final competitors are required to report to the Theater at least 30 minutes before the start of the dance competition (day and time TBD, check your pocket program at con). PLEASE ENTER THROUGH THE HEADLESS LOUNGE as the front Theater entrance will be locked to ensure privacy before show. By arriving early the competitors will have the opportunity to practice on the dance floor in privacy from the public. Competitors will dance in a randomly determined order. The lineup will be announced in the Theater before the start of the competition. Dancers are required to stay in the headless lounge until given an five minutes warning before their turn. she clearly got in because they judges liked her dance and she was accepted as a fursuit character. if they did not like her or did not think her outfit was acceptable, she would not have gotten into the final round.

maybe this is her fursuit(?) its quite possible everyone has their own idea of what their costume or fursuit should look like.

People need to shut up about her costume "not being an actual fursuit" and just enjoy the dance. It was absolutely amazing and really impressive for a first performance. Plus, there are no "rules" to what is and is not a fursuit. The costume depicts her feline character, so it is some type of anthropomorphic animal suit.

Y'all need to chill with the salt LMAO get real, there were no rules on what she couldn't wear to get into the comp. they did it to have fun and y'all are making fake af excuses. Enjoy the performance, don't ruin it. This is simply my opinion so don't blame me if you got butthurt. :)

this is incredible! stop complaining about the lack of a suit, guys. they let her dance, and she won. let her be happy, this was really impressive!

At first I was like, "That's not a fursuit!" Immediately followed by, "Woah this is creepy and awesome I love it."

She was AWESOME!

She took so long just to get to that point, and she had a personal connection with that song and that character was to represent her feelings trapped between real life and the want to be her fursona.... that made it even more amazing. I will always be her friend, because she has helped me in so many ways...

It came from "Fursona" which is a furry version of "personification" or a shortened version "Persona" Which means, the attribution of human nature or character to animals, inanimate objects, or abstract notions, especially as a rhetorical figure. or the representation of a thing or abstraction in the form of a person, as in art.

She was cleared to dance. My qualifications to know this are not taken from the internet. Still if you wish to delve into the little things of "Fursuit" meaning then we shall. Fursuit is a two part word shortened and combined. The two combining words are "Fursona" of which I explained the meaning and where it came from. The other being "Suit" Which means a set of outer clothes made of the same fabric and designed to be worn together, typically consisting of a jacket and trousers or a jacket and skirt. Synonyms: outfit, set of clothes, ensemble She was wearing a "Fursona Suit" Thus allowed to dance. Now end of argument. I have a job and life. Her routine is lovely and she deserves her win all the way. The fandom is about expressing your character through art. This is art. She may not be able to afford a suit, but she deserved her win. Her suit is her mask. Despite the fact that it's not a full suit, she's expressing her character in dance. You should be careful and think before you comment. She worked very hard on her routine and deserves some respect.

This dance was truly beautiful I'm glad she came in 1st, people need to stop complaining about her outfit. It says NOWHERE that you have to wear a proper fursuit for the dance competition. I've seen worse where people are showing their faces while dancing but it still counted. The only reason why people are getting upset is because. 1. She can dance better than you 2. You don't have a fursuit yourself

It's a common drama from sore losers and elitist children. It's happened more than once and I see it happen a lot as a fursuit dancer myself.

Furlandia had a different solution have a two categories : full fursuit and partials and others. Even so perhaps her win is because she shows a degree of uniqueness unlike many fursuit dancers I seen; a lot of pop and locking while feet planted like they had boat anchors tied to them.

While I believe the performance was beautiful and spectacular, I agree with Alexandra Greenaae on this, it's a fursuit dance competition, not a cosplay dance competition. There was nothing fursuit related with her outfit, sure she had a cat mask but that's only furry related not fursuit related. I think 1st place should have gone to Daquiri, 2nd place to Wolf Tk & JD Puppy, and 3rd, in my opinion should go to Hogwash. I'm not putting down the performance, which was beautiful and spectacular, but I honestly believe that this performance should not have placed, only because it was not fursuit related, had nothing to do with the performance

I thank you for believing that I should be in 3rd place. I am very glad that you enjoyed my performance. I personally wasn't intending on winning or placing, but just entertaining people with the carlton dance, spongebob messing with the radio, and failing a flip at the end. Everything was done intentionally for the entertainment of the crowd. Sally did do a wonderful job, and if the judges believe that she deserved 1st place, then I am not gonna argue. I am just looking to entertain, improve, and have fun.

I understand that fursuits are expensive but Sally could've saved some money to get a partial suit. It wouldn't restrict her moves like a full suit would and her performance would still be amazing. Flinch is a perfect example of wearing a partial suit and being able to move smoothly. I'm not gonna say her dance was horrible but I feel it was a bit unfair that other dancers had to endure the heat of being in a full suit and pull off their dance while she would've not overheated as much due to her wearing a mask.

CyborgHoneybadger First of all how about if she needed that money for important things, and she still wanted to do the contest, how about if she was moving to a new country next year see you don't know the struggles in which a person has to live with. Secondly You don't need a fursuit exactly to be in the competition you just have to be dressed up as an animal in some sort of way. Thirdly its about having fun will performing and letting the crowd enjoy the performance And also she still wore a costume with an animal mask so I don't know why youare getting so upset over the fact she didn't wear a suit :/
