Came here every year for 2 weeks with my parents and it's just how I remembered it. Started bringing my own kids (now ages 37 and 32). Now I'm 64 and we all still go along with my 2 granddaughters. Hard to explain to them how great it was back in the 60's and 70's, but this video helps a lot! Thanks for posting......

This wonderful slideshow brought back beautiful memories. My husband, daughter and I first went there in 1973 and each year thereafter for the next 9 years. We always stayed at the Ocean Gate Motel. To us, that was the best. Decades later we planned to go back but never made it. My husband passed away last year. These pictures and the song brought tears to my eyes. How I wish my husband could have seen this before he died. He would have loved it. You brought my memories to life. So grateful. Thank you.

Awesome job. Brings back memories of bumper to bumper traffic all the way to 495 and shoulder to shoulder people on Friday and Saturday nights. The crowds when the bars let out at 1. Cars were cars and cruising in our street rods back and forth between Salisbury and Hampton was part of the night. I remember the influx of bikes when the Outlaws played the Frolics. When the dodgem's, Barkers and the Normandy Lounge were still cranking away. What a great place it was for hanging with your friends. As much as the 70s and 80s are maligned, I'm glad I grew up then.

Thank you, so much. The memories that your clip brought back to me. My parents broke up when I was four years old or so, and my brother and I spent most of the year with out mom in central Maine, and spent the summer with our dad, in New Hampshire towns like Sandown, and Kingston, and Hampstead. The outing to Salisbury beach was such a highlight. A real treasure, hours on the beach and in the surf. Pizza and cokes at a pizza place called Mike's, I believe. I'll never forget the smells and the sounds, and the excitement of being there.

Yea, I am kissing 70 but it still reminded me of back then, like it was yesterday. Great job on the slideshow.

Spent my childhood summers there from 1962 until 1972. Such great times at the center. The rides, the funhouses, the arcades, and the roller coaster. Every Wednesday was "Kiddie's Day" and we'd get ride tickets cheap! Loved listening to our parents' stories of the likes of Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Ertah Kit, and all the big name performers of their day and the formal dress dinner shows at the Frolics. Awesome childhood memories! As an adult I played in a house band every summer at one of the clubs there from 1986 -1999 and watched the center become a trash laden ghost town and the cops were total dickheads! Fart the wrong way and they'd bust your balls! They're MUCH MUCH better now. The police are actually pretty cool and regular folk like the rest of us. I still perform there every summer once or twice. Fast forward to around 2013 or so and things are looking up. Alot of condos as would be expected nowadays but live music is back, the center is looking much better. Kept clean, some new and actually pretty good restaurants. The Blue Ocean Music Hall features many former "A List" acts and bands and is a beautiful room. The crowds are returning to the new Salisbury Beach. But gone are the days of that "carnival" type atmosphere at the beach. It's more contemporary now and the folks that manage the area (most from my generation or so) really love the beach and it shows in the upkeep. Now if you'd like to relive those good old carnival beach days take a spin about 40 minutes (or less) north up the road to Old Orchard Beach, ME. The center there is frozen in time and has been kept in immaculate condition. Great carnival feel of games and rides albeit smaller than the great Salisbury Beach days.

Wow, what a fantastic slideshow. Salisbury Beach - the tackiest, funnest, best beach in the country. The Frolics was always a blast from heavy metal to disco to punk. Loved dancing there. Underneath The Frolics were some good times too. ;) The old wooden roller coaster was the scariest one I've ever been on in my life. And would anyone else in the world understand the flat squares of pizza at Christie's and Tripoli's? Thanks for the memories.

I love this.. I grew up going to this beach as a kid in the 90s when it was no where near this iconic or alive. My grandparents are from the Haverhill area and my grandfather worked at Joe's playland as a kid... he would tell us stories about these times and all the big name performers who came through. I wish Salisbury would come back to life. Now I really only go for the pizza. Tripolis all the way! :)

+priscilla rose Hi Priscilla! I have to tell you, when I was a child, I went to Salisbury Beach every summer. We stayed at a motel called Henry's. I can't remember if it was Henry's Sun and Sea, or Sun and Surf but the Henry's part is a definite. Anyway, our favorite place to eat in Salisbury Beach was Tony's Restaurant. I still remember the spaghetti and hot sausage like it was yesterday. My mother is Italian, and along with my mother's italian food, Tony's was the BEST! We would eat at Tony's 2 to 3 times in one week; that's how much we loved it. And once, we drove 3 1/2 hrs from home, just to eat at Tony's because we were craving it. Every time I watch old videos or look at old pics from Salisbury Beach, I always hope to catch a glimpse of Tony's Restaurant but, I haven't spotted one yet. I remember that the restaurant was a lot bigger on the inside than it looked on the outside. The service was great! Even though it was a very busy place, it seemed that we never had to wait. You must have very fond memories of the beach & your grandfather's restaurant. I know I do. Whenever I tell anyone about Salisbury Beach, Tony's Restaurant is always included in my conversation. Best eats in Salisbury Beach or anywhere for that matter! You should be proud, and it sounds like you had a wonderful childhood...Salisbury Beach...and Tony's Restaurant. What could be better than that?

Adam Ratte Your Uncle owned Henry's? Oh, I love to hear that! We stayed at Henry's for 9 years. As a teenager, my friend and I used to hang out with the owner's son. I think his name was George but I'm not completely sure. We were about the same age so it was a lot of fun. I do remember that his Dad got a little upset when he hung out with us. I'm not sure if he didn't want him hanging out with teenage girls or if it was just bad business to hang out with guests. So...we used to hang out behind a building...or inside what I think was a laundry room. Or...we would meet up after dark when it was easier to not be seen. His Dad would ride around looking for him on a laundry cart; he would always come out of hiding then and go home. He didn't want to get in big trouble. LOL! We sure loved our summers at Henry's. Is your uncle and his son the same people that I'm talking about? I would love to hear more about them. Thank you.

When the dodgem's, Barkers and the Normandy Lounge were still cranking away. What a great place it was for hanging with your friends. As much as the 70s and 80s are maligned, I'm glad I grew up then.
Fantastic slide show!! Thank you for putting this together. I was born in 69.....most of my memories are late 70's and early 80's. I remember loving going to Salisbury whenever we went. It was a magical place.
Ah, my "happy place"! My heart is now heavy as I sit here FLOODED in great memories!!! WOW... this depicts so many good times from my childhood. Thought I'd never get to actually see it all again, but guess what? It's exactly as I remember it... if I concentrate really hard, I may be able to smell the salt air, taste the fried clams and hear the music from the Himalaya playing in the distance. Thank you so much for posting this... be still, my heart!
Incredible memories -- and the Frolics still alive & kicking in these photos! BIG BIG thanks for posting!

You probably mean Mr. Mikes. The only round pizza. I made Pizza there from 1972-1979
I remember every inch of that place, great clams and onion rings at Lena's, the Frolics and the Himalaya" keep the bar down folks, you wanna go real fast" Cristy's Pizza, Tripoli, it was one or the other, saw lots of bands like the Platter's and so many more. Yea, I am kissing 70 but it still reminded me of back then, like it was yesterday. Great job on the slideshow.
KonTiki Lounge every Saturday night in the late seventies. Live rock. I met a spellbinding girl there named Colleen. I never forgot her. I love you Colleen, wherever you are.

We need a book on Salisbury Beach the way it was 60s, 70s. These photos would be perfect. I've been looking for photos like these for years. Thanks for posting.
Awesome! Wish it was still like this, so many god times at Salisbury beach, love my town!

Thank you for posting/sharing this. I am only 57 but I remember a lot of things like the roller coaster. I moved to OK about 5 years ago and it was nice to see "the beach" again. Thanks again. Peace
Thank you ! Thank you and Thank you for this video. Brought back such great memories. Perfect song to go with it. Spent so much time there as a child and teen. It’s nice to go back and see how it used to be. There will never be a place like it again. Can’t thank you enough.
So many mémories! Kids these days don't have the memories we had. The beach is not the same.....so sad! Thank you so much for this wonderful video slideshow!!!
Thank you for the memories of what used to be a great place in the 70's. I sure miss the place and all the fun there.
Awesome it brought back a lot of memories
I spent every summer growing up here in the 60’s & 70’s as a kid and we just rented our waterfront cottage again for July 2018. The Old Days were the Glory Days of Salisbury but we still love it. Great Video... Thanks !
What a great collection of postcards and pictures, and you chose the perfect song to set it to as well. Such memories of being at Salisbury Beach that the next generation will never know... There truly was something for everyone-as a kid, and then throughout my teens & HS years. My only regret is that I wasn't brave enough to ride the Wildcat coaster or the Sky Diver!
So many memories of Salisbury...grew up in Lawrence....it was such the thing to do-to go to the beach....thanks for this video...brought back my memories from the 50's and 60's....
Love watching this, brings back all memories, good ones.
Knew the center from preschool days and was a teen there in the late 60's early 70's. We were at Hampton Beach a lot too. We had great times we will never forget!
Loved, loved, loved your slide show. My grandfather Tony owned Tony's Restaurant and I spent all my childhood summers at Salisbury Beach. I would love a photo of the restaurant if one is out there. I am now an artist and I would love to do a painting to remind me of all the good times!

Thank you.
awww i was born in 1985 so i still got to enjoy quite a few years of Salisbury Beach "The Way It Was" and I miss it. I have so many fond memories. I go back there from time to time for a slice of Tripolis Pizza and that good ol' fashioned sepia colored photo booth :)
Loved this place...had some great times there!
Loved that place as a kid
This has brought back so many wonderful memories. Thank you so much!! Those were the "good old days.! I spent many days at Hampton and Salisbury Beaches!
So glad I found your post. My friends and I are always talking about the Himalaya and there it was - just as I remember it!! Great job with the pictures!
Sure do miss how it used to be. Even seeing the older cars was a trip. Thanks for the memories.
Our cottage was down the beach toward the old water tower. You could see the ferris wheel all lit up at night from our front screen porch...
Great memories of Salisbury Beach 💖
amazingly awesome!! I remember everything and what a great trip down memory lane-- This made my day. Kit
You see a building here called the Frolic...they had the biggest stars perform there all summer long...all people on the record charts and they packed the place to the rafters...
Thank you so much for this! GREAT memories!
Nice to see the old days, I was a Bouncer at the Frolics back in the 70,s A lot of good memories
Thank you so much bring back beautiful memories of happy time
Excellent video. So many memories of Salisbury Beach.
I love seeing these but hate it too. So many wonderful memories, but hate it that those days are long behind us. Thank you so,so very much for sharing this! I grew up in Newburyport (in Virgina now) and spent so much time at Salisbury Beach back in the day. You picked the PERFECT song to go with this too..as this is a place that only we know in the joy of our childhood and 'teenhood' summers spent around such a fun, magical, place.

Oh yea, I grew up there, all of that is vivd in my memory, spent many a time there, thanks for the flashback!
Thank you for this. My parents were both from this area, and these pictures are from the time when they met. From what I've been told, my dad had a clam stand on the beach during this time. So very cool to see what they saw!
Very nice! I grew up in Salem NH. My family and I spent many summers Salisbury Beach and Hampton Beach. I have such great, great memories of both. Boy was that water cold!
Wow! Flood of memories pouring in from 45 years ago. Now if only I could get a chop suey sandwich.....
Remember it well. Tripoli's Pizza, The Frolics, Himalaya, the wooden roller coaster, arcade, merry go 'round, etc.
The best days ever
Perfect song to some great memories!
That brings back memories
This was a wonderful slideshow! Sad that these days are long gone.
Great Job. And great song choice as well.
Yes Garu8193, I have seen that book and it is nice but it stops short of the 60s, 70s the way many baby boomers remember and want to see photos of Salisbury. Your photos are awesome! You should sell them!!! I was awestruck at the fantastic photos you have from that era! So many wonderful memories!
How about the best band on the beach > “Mac’s Mob”, a ten piece show band that packed the Peppermint Lounge next to the old police station every summer in the 70’s!!!
Im 28, so my years as a little guy have faint memories of this. I wish I got to be a 21+ back then
YES I REMEMBER THOSE DAYS GROWING UP AND GOING TO THE BEACH, TO BAD ITS GONE,THOSE WERE THE DAYS A FAMILY WAS A FAMILY''
Im 13 and I spend a lot of time here in the summer, my uncle owns ozzies fried dough and manages tripolis so i know everyone and its crazy to think this place changed so much, wish some of this stuff was still around :)

That was before MUD WRESTLING actually became the big Frolics draw.
I lived in Salisbury and loved it :D but moved from there in 09, I miss the place.
Loved it that's what I call home thanks
I remember we would get out of school for the year and me and a 4 or 5 buddies would head for the beach and camp at Millys place or the State Park in the 70's,, We would party under the Frolics. I would play my guitar we met a lot of very nice people. Also remember a bar I think was called the Tick Tock Lounge ?? Salisbury was always hopping !! I miss the simple days
I wish I was alive to see Salisbury beach in the 70s but I was born in 96 so I saw the change into a bunch of condominiums. People sitting on 495 cause everybody and there mother lives by the beach.
I worked at the phone co. in Newburyport (BEFORE dial 1 for long distance even!) Back when you HAD to call the Operator to call long distance. I must have spoken to Roger Shaheen placing collect calls all over the country at least 30 times a day. All his hard work and the joy he brought to so many - all gone. Unbelievable. As sad as what they have done to our Newburyport. It's beautiful LOOKING, but the heart and soul is back in another time, an easier time, when friends filled the city. sigh.
aaaaaaahhhhh im sooooo happy seeing this....thanx sooooo much!!! very very cool!!!
God I remember going there and it was wall to wall people
Spent every summer there, now it is being revitalized thanks to Wayne Capaluto
Wow. It changed so much!!
@mmmd3 thank you sooooo much,...... yes like you I have such great nostalgic memories of the old salisbury beach, rode that skydiver many times, still hear the change falling out of my pockets and hitting the roof of the ride,.....and yes I just found out about the fb page many thanks
this is fantastic .. thanx alot :) when i went back there after quite a few years i felt that a BIG part of my childhood was gone...... we should all petition to bring the rides back...... the only place left with rides on the beach is old orchard beach in maine.... remember revere, nantasket... they are all gone.... does anyone know when the rides there went away..... now the place is a pithole.....:(
@GarlandnDonna thats awesome,....I actually never saw the inside of the frolic,s when band,s played there, but one time I snuck in when Salisbury discount house was there, it was dark and creepy, and the stage and bars were still there, it was being used for storage, I could see the floor had big humps in it near the window,s from the blizzard of 78
AH ! Salisbury beach the way I remember it, before it became the Riviera of Lawrence!
Thanks so much..... I worked @ Shaheens Fun-O-Rama during high school the off to Shaffees for Miller lites those were the days :0)
The good old day's...
Thank you!
hahahahaha...boy are we on the same wave length...Remember that movie The Time Machine? If we only had the machine to go back in time when life was simple and so much fun...Salisbury Beach and Hampton were the BOMB meeting bathing beauties, hahahaha...that ride that a tent pulled over us going around was Make Out Time and it sure was fun kissing new lips if you know what I mean? haha
@SWEETR20 wow ..thank you so much , ...god bless,... comments like this make me so glad I posted this !
@dpdimaggio09 well thank you Dan, Im also from Methuen, glad you enjoyed the slideshow !
@Jan1277 thank you.... it took me year,s to collect them, I have posted them all on facebook, the resolution quality is much better, also there are some of Hampton beach and the casino and seashell from that era, that are not in the slideshow.......they are for public viewing so anyone can see them !!!
I grew up on the beach early 70's through 90's it was so sad when I left. Society had left the beach behind. You could see it slowly happening. Big money started to buy up property and the townees moved out. The newbies had no memory or love for the beach. SAD
@PalaimoDan thank you for watching and posting,
good for her...sounds awesome
@doorswhofan BIG thanks,.for watching
These beaches were the best growing up....I was from New Hampshire and have been doing videos of New Hampshire and Massachusetts lately if you want to check them out...do you remember Benson's Wild Animal Farm in it's glory days? Another long gone place for kids...
nice job, you just made me happy to see what i remember as a kid and sad that its become a dump. and we all know why. just look at the pictures, its obvious.
