One of my ancestors was tried and executed during the salem witch trials. One of her journals indicates that some of the men on the jury had felt threatened that her father had taught her how to read. So my family believes that many of the reasons these women were accused was because they were educated women and the men felt threatened.

this actually makes sense. i mean the episode clearly stated that the only doctor doesn't know how to write (and that's the doctor) so the commoner men probably didn't know how to read and write. and when some Women learned to read, other less educated women felt threatened and told the men and they just accused them of being witch. i remember a scene from Beauty and the Beast where Belle's reading and using her invention was considered as strange and weird by others in her village. could be the same extreme thing happened

Women who could read (as well as any slave) would obviously be a threat to the system. There was also a tremendous financial incentive to accusing women of witchcraft. It was a cheap way to acquire their property. The accused needed to pay for any food and lodging while jailed. When they couldn't pay - the commonwealth would seize that property and auction it off. Women only held property after their husband or eligible male relatives had passed. That's why it was mostly older women who were accused (thus the ugly old witch stereotype).

Esha Friedline I had an ancestor that was executed for being a witch as well (not in Salem thou, can't remember the name of the town atm). According to records, she was a highly opinionated woman, and was never afraid to speak out. It's said that most people in the town didn't like her for this reason, so the trail (which was the only witch trail to happen in that town) was just a way to get rid of her.

I wonder how long people have held back from putting more than 666 likes.

I mean the thing is Tituba was from Barbados, which has a high frequency of people who practice voodoo which is a form of witchcraft. So that's one of the theories was she was doing her normal religious stuff and the girls blew it out of proportion. Also there are people practicing voodoo, paganism, and Wicca in Salem and through the USA. So in a sense witchcraft is real; but not the way we would think about it stereotypically

Jack Grassi it's not 100% accurate tbh, but I understand the confusion. Obeah and voodoo are similar, but they are two different practices. People tend to look at the region and lump them (practices, cultures, countries/islands etc) together as one. It is very frustrating. Especially when simple research could clarify a lot of the common misconceptions. And if research isn't your thing, just ask a question! We love sharing our history and culture. Yeah, I think it's a mix of Ryan not being willing (can't blame him, they freak me out) and the fact that Shane would just say Ryan moved it in the event something does happen.

Steven's adorable xD Also it's nice to have someone else on the show, to offer a different pov and questions.

Shane was right about the audio. I listened without watching the video and I didn't hear any words.

I'd love to see you guys do a reaction video to 'real ghost evidence caught on camera' videos, just to see how Shane would try debunk them 😂

Nicholas Passero glad to know someone's got Shane's back while he's on vacation 😂 I agree, lots of them are very, very fake and can be debunked. However I do believe some people catch actual evidence once in a while

I hope this series never dies. This is the only thing from Buzzfeed that I actually enjoy watching.

Issendai it's likely not. The Warrens were frauds and swindlers. It's so irritating that they've gotten the spotlight for so long recently. They have infuriated me since Amityville, ages ago, and this most recent (relativity speaking, since it's been going on since Haunting in Connecticut) cash grab through Hollywood by Lorraine (and Ed until his death) is all the more irritating. People are inclined to take their Hollywood snake oil at face value, without digging a little deeper, and seeing that they've been duping people for decades.

Amarianee then i guess its more than reasonable to make it a series of unsolved.. nothing will hurt if they would visit and do those kinds of provoking since you said its not likely to be haunted or demonic.. also there are people who provoked this doll and unfortunate things happened to them.. so yea i hope they do this or make it one of their series of unsolved if those items are demonic/haunted.. like i said nothing will hurt if they tried and since u said its not likely to be haunted or demonic..

Issendai I can agree with that. It wouldn't be called "unsolved" if it were solved lol. Sorry, I get irrationally heated when the Warrens are involved, nothing was meant against you personally. In your defense too, the were some freaky things with that doll before they ever got involved; they just massively exploited that family once they did get involved, and have kept up all the exploitation of numerous cases through their Hollywood deals. They've basically made bank off all of these families, then compounded it with their books and movie deals. They are/were terrible people.

Amarianee i have nothing against what you said.. it could be true that all of what the warrens did was fraud or also maybe they took advantage of what they have to earn and make cash for all the attention they had from what they are doing.. also there will be people who will make or tell people that the doll is fake just because of SKEPTICISM/ maybe out of jealousy cuz of the fat banks they have.. it would be wrong also to take advantage of this items and earn money out of it.. but like what i said also nothing will hurt if they visit the warren museum. Maybe buzzfeedblue will take its turn to make money out of that episode when they do it.. HA i just hope they do this since theyre already doing this demonic/haunted places..

I believe in the paranormal but I thought the "Take It" and "What" were questionable but the "I'm Not" was pretty clear and was likely not anything else making that sound.

the "I'm not" still only sounds like that because it was literally spelled out by someone desperately reaching for evidence (no offense, Ryan). like it was subtitled, played back multiple times as a tiny brief clip, and verbally confirmed to be what Ryan thought was "I'm not." if you removed the subtitles, the verbal suggestion, and the 'this is a spooky episode of Unsolved' context and just played that sound like... idk, while you stood in line at the grocery store... it would sound like nothing more than random noise, like Shane said--shifting weight, rustling clothes, breathing, all the little noises that occur a billion times a day but go unnoticed unless, y'know, you catch them on a microphone. if the show wants to make any of this audio sound legit, it needs to be something you can notice and hear clearly without the subtitles and the "this is what it sounds like" suggestion and the multiple audio-boosted playbacks, otherwise it's just grasping at straws.

And what did you think of the "Help Me" audio from the Lizzie Borden episode? I really thought that one was creepy and genuine. However, I agree that "What" and "Take It" sounded like clothes rubbing against snow or something. The "I'm not" is more questionable, but the "Help me" sound got me thinking the most.

About the period costumes, their logic is interesting. So I've played with the Ouija board and this one time, this one allegedly Ghost claimed to know me. Everything it was sharing about me was inaccurate (shocker, truly), but it occurred to me to ask it to describe what I looked like. It saw me in 17th century Spanish fashion. So there's that.

I don't know where Ryan is from but as someone who has snow every winter I can assure you all that the "take it" and "what" sounds are the sound of steping on the snow in the night. Why in the night? Because the temperature is going down and snow is getting a little more solid and crystals are getting bigger. The surface is harder then the snow under and when you step on it it makes exactly this sound. Of course it can also happen during the day if the temperature is low enough.

Yeah... I felt like the Take it & what sounds like snow crushing AND shirt rubbing on the mic. In fact when they were trying to re-create it, they did re-create the 'take it' and 'what'.
