    I think average wage is somewhat around or up to 1.8-2K in western major currencies And average expenditures are somewhat 1.4-1.5K for single person (it depends on needs)

    @@vimniel2596 Application is FREE. I only paid for postal services for mailing my application in, health certficate and criminal record check, my passport. Also for the id photos.. I forgot how much it totalled but maybe give it $150-200? :)

    @@mat6729thanks, but how about the poea, owwa certs fees? And in the proof of identity requirement where we are to submit birth cert/passport, does it mean submitting my passport? Or just a copy of the first page with the info on it? Cause it says as well that what I have submitted won't be returned to me. Thank you for patiently answering my questions

    Hello Thea! Since you are from the Phils, pls visit the JET Program Philippines. Di kasi ako nag apply from Pinas so I am not sure about the steps and fees? But JET Programme is FREE (except maybe if you need to go to Manila for interviews.. :)

I'm not a Filipino JET po but my friend (Fil JET) bought around 100,000 pesos po. 25k for rent, 30k for key money (money gift to your landlord, I did not need to pay for key money), 25k to survive for at least a month. She didn't have to buy apartment supplies because her pred left everything for her to use. I, on the other hand, brought 150,000 because my apartment was empty. my apartment rent was cheaper and did not have to pay the key money but i had to buy everything. :(

    I just check 1 Australian Dollar is 82.930 Yen. So every month 214,000 x 12 month/ year 2.568Million Yen divide by 82.930 is around 31, 000 AUD Dollars a year.

    Hello! Thanks you the kind words :) I think 90% of JETs either send their savings home to help their family or to pay for their student loan or other stuff. With the amount of money you make, it is very possible to save :)

    Yes they do! I personally know someone who is married and was able to bring her husband to Japan during her JET year. The husband, though, wasnt allowed to work (as far as I can remember) :) Good luck on your application

    to be honest, I havent heard from the JET CIRs since December. We are still going to school every day even if there's zero work because we are paid. :/

    We have a record sheet for our daily temp check at school. we also need to disclose our weekend whereabouts and that's pretty much it.

    I at first bought bottled water because I was unsure if tap was safe to drink. After having met local friends and learned that they drink from tap, I 've switched to tap right away. I however needed to buy the water faucet filter. :)

    hello, you'd have to pay for your everyday transportation (car or car rental and gas) What they pay for is your flight to and from Japan, transpo for conferences/meetings. :)

    Hello, I brought around 4,000 cad or around 150,000 php. I dont think I spent everything during thr first month but I highly encourage you to bring around 150k just in case you need to pay for KEY MONEY, advance apartment rental fee and food to get by during your first month. :)

    Hello! :) I am almost sure that the answer is NO.. When I went on a vacay in the Phils, I thought of applying from there since I stayed there for 3 mos. When I emailed JET, they told me I need to apply from the country of my citizenship (which is Cnada) so I had to wait until I'm back in Cad. :(

    Hello. I think JET will not allow it. I was told that you can only apply for the JET in your country of citizenship. So Filipinos should apply in the Phils. I thought of that too when I was on vacation in the Phils. :(

    No, you will receive your first utility bill after 2-3 weeks. What you're going to pay for when you arrive is your car rental fee (that is if you're going to rent one), your first month's apartment rent, key money and... I think that's about it :)

    Canadian confirmed: refers to electricity bill as "Hydro" :) It's interesting that you have to pay into EI considering that if you were to lose your job as an ALT, you would probably just be shipped home immediately. I'm assuming you get that back as a refund at the end?

    Depends on where you will be assigned to work. Some BOEs will require you to drive even if you dont want to and will not allow you to drive even if you wish to.

    No, I just divided the 3,336,000 by 12 mos so I get 280,000 per month. :)

    with JET programme, they'll arrange the apartment for you except if you are assigned in Tokyo, then you'd have to look for your apartment. :)

    JET Programme hires people from 57 countries. JET stands for Japan EXCHANGE and Teaching (programme). never about being a native speaker. In my province, 54 people applied, 3 got in including me and I am not a native speaker. :D
