@@MarioScianHQ An unrelated question to this post.. Should the vages presented here not include holliday pay ?. It seems to me that this is a very real part of our vage here in Denmark. Savings for retirement seems to be relevant aswell, though ofcause to most, in the far future.. Btw. thx. for a good channel, I dont agree with some of your opinions, but you present them well, and seem to try and be honost about your perspective !

For some of the examples shown, theres is also being transfered some money (before taxes) to pensions. To be fair, when comparing payslip A vs. B, you will have to add this amount - or at least mention it - whan talking about how much many the person will have "in hand". People not having some of their salery transfered to pensions will either have to somehow finance this them selfs, eg. by investments etc, or having nothing except the "folkepension etc" when the leave their worklife.

Depends on your area - 2-3 years of experience in AI coding will pay much better than 2-3 years experience in some artistic profession :)

Hi Mario! I am about to start my PhD at the University of Aarhus. My monthly basic salary is approximately DKK 33K plus the DKK 1.4K PhD supplement. Additionally, in my case because I am a foreigner, have a fixed-term contract of less than 5 years and was recruited from outside of Denmark, I applied for the "pension exemption" scheme, which means that I will be paid together with my monthly salary an amount equivalent to the pension calculated at 17.1% of my basic salary. What I don't quite understand is whether the sum of all of the above, which is approximately DKK 40K per month will have the same tax rate or whether any part of it is deductible. Having said all this, I'm not really clear on how much my salary will be after tax and that has me worried. I understand it's not that low, but I'm going with my wife, who won't be working there and I don't want to be financially pressured either. By any chance could anyone give me an idea of how much I might be getting after-tax? Do you think it is a decent salary for a couple to live on in Aarhus?

As a person who bought a car last year in Copenhagen, you should know: 1) cars are ridiculously expensive in Denmark for no reason (you buy 1 extra car as a gift to the state through taxes) 2) used cars are also super expensive, mainly because car production is low (probably intentionally) 3) if you live in Copenhagen and have easy access to the metro, it's unlikely that a car is significantly faster or more convenient, usually it makes more financial sense to rent a car short term (eg share now). Personally, I've used the car to travel to Sweden and Germany, but financially the purchase made 0 sense, it would have been cheaper for me to just rent every time for multiple years. If you live in more remote suburbs that the metro doesn't reach, cars become significantly more worthwhile.

the humble one who works in a shop is part time btw might be worth to mention

@@cristi8276 it depends, if it's pension payout - no, then it has to go to a pension scheme because it's tax deductible (basically you postpone payment of it for when you retire). But some companies do not have pension schemes or not mandatory ones, so in those cases you can decide how much you want to put into your pension (possibly nothing).

that would be a pretty standard level for a "good job", as you can see on the numbers presented here many people make something in that range.

I work as a senior scientist for a big pharmaceutical company in the UK. I get 27200 DKK after tax per month despite having a PhD and years of postdoc. I earn less than the garbage collector in Denmark.

Don't get me wrong I don't want to downgrade any jobs but I'm an educated waiter and chef I was working in 3 different countries most of the time in fine dining and in some Michelin star restaurants in the past 27 yrs and a garbage man makes 10000 dkk more (without any special education) after tax is ridiculous

Denmark is a pretty egalitarian country. They appreciate hard work just as much as other kinds of efforts. Garbagemen wake at 3 and do a dirty job. Could/would you do that? Why not? You got the answer to the higher salary. As a waiter you also have benefits like free food, tips etc. Garbagemen don't. What is amazing about Denmark is that every single person makes an actual living wage.

Let us be honest: fine.. we spend so much to send ourselves to secondary schools and universities so we instinctively expect to recover all of such expenses not to mention the mental drain to attain highest academic grades handsomely from high incomes + low taxes. Well, on one part I strongly hold the notion that all world nations can provide superb social amenities to their citizens with zero taxes charged. Yes I repeat, with zero income tax charge if and only if all world governments (including countries that claim to be socialist/ egalitarianist in nature e.g Finland , Sweden , Norway , Denmark but in reality they also collaborate with mega super powers to structure society into oligarchs- powerless masses ) they could deter from unclassified demonic agendas such as investing in wars of all kinds, Space exploration programs, money laundering to satisfy the excessive material needs of plutocrats and autocrats world wide, exploitation of natural resources from developing nations. They made us believe through fabricated fake theories that income tax and other related types from struggling citizens will provide equal wealth satisfaction and Ultimum social welfare services for all but we can all see that paying income taxes do not guarantee VIP social welfare for esp struggling citizens as it is currently and conspicuously manifesting in USA and Canada wherein people complain of long waiting hours for doctors' appt and substandard medical services etc and you imagine why more doctors aren't recruited to provide best medical services for their growing populations since taxes are collected , poor water supply etc) otherwise people won't be angry nor complain of living frugally after working so hard while you hear your political leaders buying vacation houses, cruise ships, setting up billion dollar businesses ( they evade taxes cos they know it is simply to create top bottom social structure) ; as long as a lot of the human populations are at the bottom begging the government for basic needs and peanuts so they feel exclusively powerful and distinctively privileged. Ideally, low skilled workers partake in strenuous jobs (physical exhausting jobs that can deform you or shorten your life span as you grow older) than say an online marketing job. Imagine a garbage driver who has to be behind the steering wheel for most part of the day or a construction worker who has to work outdoors under harsh weather conditions or miners who have to hit, slam with heavy tools that may make their hands swell, so if countries like Denmark deduct a small fraction of tax from their salaries/wages, they are very understanding then cos some countries don't care about the nature of these low skilled to semi skilled jobs. No social benefits for them, and they could be paid far below the minimum wage. They end up as petty thieves , hooligans and street urchins because they feel they work so hard ( in fact some of these labour work require the consumption of weed, cocaine , codeine or serious pain killers to keep them active than office jobs). While many high skilled workers enjoy heaters or air conditioners in plush offices from which they claim to be a reason to deduct high taxes from their salaries. The class of workers who engage in menial jobs work dirty. Imagine having to clean stinking toilets and bathrooms or a waste collector Having to inhale various municipal waste for hours. So I think to compensate them for such degrading jobs, even if the salary is the same as an online marketer or an entry level engineer, some countries with a streak of human conscience sensibly deduct a small percentage of tax from their income. There is no paradise on earth folks but some countries are more compassionate in wealth distribution than others. I think Denmark portrays that but to uphold the motto of class society , have to make living costs so expensive so that you do not have enough to be financially independent and as privileged as your political figures or rich circles.

It probably says more about academia in the public sector. It's not paid very well at all (in comparison to other things). They do get a ton of nice benefits though and a very high degree of job security, so it's not all bad.

really depends on your perspective, your taxes pay for free schooling at all levels (including university), free healthcare, but the most expensive part it pays for - is poor people. so people who for whatever reason cannot get a job(disabled or mentally ill etc), so they can afford a decent place to live, food on the table, nothing fancy but they can get by instead of living on the streets. This means there aren't very many homeless people, unlike many other places you don't find a lot of beggars or just generally very many people who are in desperate need of money. The problem with desperate people is that they do desperate things, crime being the primary one, because if you can't afford food, you will do whatever it takes. And this is how you build a country where people are generally not too unhappy with how things are. Does it mean that especially those who make a lot of money get less rich? yes. And that's fair enough, the strongest should contribute the most.

These are all good paychecks! Standard pay in Denmark is about 1.700-1.841 USD. after tax. The low income, and middle pay-gap is quite large.
