Yeah! I always played salamamders since 7th! Oh yeah salamanders were my army before! Oh Im new to 40k and really like the lore (procedes to unbox erradicators agressors and a captain, all contrast painted to minimum standard/drybrushed) Oh green is my favourite color, thats all! Some people have no shame and should not be able to get any games at all...

@@l7537 there is nothing wrong being a IH player! Its okay... being a waac on the other hand... and change your army just because the meta changed slighty... that is the issue... Happening to be playing IH when they were top its no problem, changing it as soon as IH are no longer top dog... and use every broken trick in the book... while going out of your way to make the match as unfun as possible to your oponent... thats the problem. Have fun with your dudes! May you lead them into glorious grisly victories!

Well the sad part really, is that I decided to finally build a Space Marine army, with the drop of Indomitus. So it was still 8th Edition and I was going back between Blood Angels for looks and power and Salamanders for style and fluff and also the fact, they were rather tame and a rare occurrence. I went with Salamanders and now I look like a meta chasing bitch. ._.

Just build a weaker list for the local games and only go hard for the bigger games. Theres plenty of WAAC miserable tyranid players out there, and plenty of kind Salamander players who you get a pint with afterwards. All up to you really

@@Michael-ib6ky I run a sort of middle ground. I don't believe in 'bad' units, they just have broader or narrower niches. I'll use whatever tactics and strategies are most efficient and powerful, but the brutal effectiveness doesn't go above the tabletop. My opponent wants to re-do something, or forgot a psychic power and needs to do that before I start shooting? Go ahead man, it's about having fun, I don't mind.

@@trebacca9 my current build is pretty hard hitting, but I purposely left out the Grav bomb and any Whirlwinds. 9 Eradicators and 9 Aggressors are definitely a part though. :D

I accidentally painted my army near 100% in there colors back in 5th & found out about them later... I just liked the color Green & had "Master Chief" in mind when building them (I field them as Imperial Fist's thou as I have a low "special gear" count that isn't power weapons)

Shame they don't have unique models, it would be cool to see firedrakes in 40k or special apothecaries to show they caring personality like in the lore no all they get are the same cookie cutter models everyone else has

Eradicators are interesting. In a vacuum, they're maybe a little undercosted, but their output is only slightly better than other SM anti-tank options. The real craziness with them is from Master Artisans, with a small number of high damage shots, they are perfect for this chapter tactic. Their output almost doubles with MA. Salamanders get that for free, with +1 wound flame weapons as icing on the cake. But the Eradicators being broken in Salamanders is about 80% from MA, which all SM can theoretically take.

Run their numbers against a Leman Russ... without MA, they hit 4 wound 2, do 7 damage, with MA they hit 5.33 wound 3.66, do 13 damage, as Sallies (with MA) they hit 5.33 wound 4.74, do 16.5 damage. MA accounts for +6 wounds, vs Sallies +1 wound accounting for +3.5. MA is what makes them nuts. Which to be fair, makes them nuts for all SM, if those SM are running successor chapters with MA.

the funny thing is i wanted to make a salamders army for awhile, both because i liked them the most and they have always been one of the more "lack luster" ones so i didnt feel like a total douche using them. Aaaaand the instant i start collecting models...theyre top dogs lol...dafuq man

I've been playing salamanders for 20years now, love there lore n Vulkan is the best primarch. It's wierd, we've never been this strong before, people don't want to play me . N when I do I bring weaker units to have a good game. But looking at what GW is going to do, boggles my mind. Everyone is upset about eradicators.....multimelta devastators will have 2 shots each now n have plus 2 to there damage. N there 2 wounds now.....u can split fire n have 4 shots each on 2 vehicles...... plus 1 to wound . Feels like everything is getting to powerful for the units on the board. Like are they going to double vehicles wounds?

Another hidden factor is the bandwagon players. Min-maxing meta chasers are playing Salamanders and they generally have done more research than everyone else. They know the 9th edition rules better than most and have full strategies for every stage of the game (that of course they have copied from more successful "pros"). At a certain point it's a number game. If 20% of the tournament is salamanders, what is the surprise that one wins? If you make sure your army can kill 3 wound, toughness 5 consistently you can turn things around. Deathwatch is great since I pick elites and SIA for wounding on 2s, rerolling 1s against all those heavy sally infantry. I think a lot of people are making mistakes by thinking about 2 wound toughness 4 infantry (so many 2 damage weapons that cant 1-shot these aggressors/eradicators!)

​@@lamhuynh7201 Deathwatch get to do that better. They can teleport anywhere on the map. Also, when they auspex scan, unlike most chapters that try to, it really, really hurts. I have had my intercessors+aggressors kill 3-4 of the 6 aggressors reserved in before they can fire (they have to teleport in within 11" to use their flamestorm gauntlets). Know the limits of strategic reserves and set proper screens.

I'm building deathwatch right now. My troops vets/bukers and are t5, with a 3++, special issue ammo, and the bikes can go thru walls, scale buildings and have obsec. So dirty.

@@Illiadofmalorne no 300pts unit can perform 72+12d6 / 154 shot out of deepstrike in the game at the moment other than aggressor. so it depend on whether the one piloting salamander has prep time before the match or its a brainless point and shoot approach,

Thank you fo another great video! I feel like I hot incredibly lucky when I happened to choose Salamanders rules for my homebrew chapter right before these changes happened.

Running Sallies since 5th, so I'm glad they have some love finally. I think the successor mechanics need some rework, and good god reign in the eradicator cost. They should be closer to 55-60/model as someone pointed out. Don't nerf ma slow flame lovers. It's not as though they're IH durability broken, or that IF/CF won't put out the same ranged firepower, and that WS/BA/SW won't run em down in melee.

If the points cost are going to stay the same into the new codex, then Attack Bike Multi Melta's are going to be 55 points for 2 multi melta shots with a better half range bonus, another wound (now even another wound), far more movement and an extra twin linked bolter for free.

So happy to see my favorite chapter getting some well-deserved buffs. Makes me want to play again. Vulkan lives!

Built my army for 8th edition and still did pretty well. I’m even more excited now!

Love how the Ork warlord on warbike was instant moved to legends after Orks did well in one tournament all the way over here in Australia , but space marines get to keep captain's on bikes . Another reason I've dropped 40k

They said i was mad to make a Salamanders army back in 6th. Who laughing now Mwwhaha, Vulkan lives stomp stomp.

Got into a discussion with a guy regarding eradicators: I argued they would see play (as of current rules) even if they were 50% more expensive, while this guy called me an idiot and said that they would be useless at that cost and that they are too strong only in salamanders, so it's the chapter supplement that should be nerfed. I was quite baffled, for 5 points more than a MM dev they get +2 W, +1 T, no penalty for moving and extra movement (granted with a -1 to hit) while still be able to shoot 2 melta shots, instead of 1. Math is not an opinion damn it

Eradicators are outright busted at 40 points. They're worth, bare minimum, 50 a model. I'd *very gladly* pay 60 points a model for them, and I'm not even a Salamander (though I am a Scar, which means I can advance and fire their melta rifles at no penalty, which gives them an absolutely busted threat range).

Great Rundown, I've been playing the Sallies since 6th edition, but never quite understood why they were so low on the rung in 8th till this vid explained it. It's nice to have them in the spotlight for 9th edition, but its too bad they got nerfed so quickly (rip double shot on aggressors)

But double shot was only nerfed in errata? So unless you plan to plan competettive tournaments - most people don't even check erratas or know all changes so just use what you have in hard cover book.

I run inceptors with assault bolters either in the standard squad of 3 or 5 depending on what army I’m playing against and use The Crucible or Battle stratagem for the plus 1 to wound. As it will be second turn they deep strike in i get the -1 AP on assault when’s so they end up with ST 5 -2 AP DMG 1 18/30 shots with the plus 1 to wound.

I’m about to start collecting a Salamanders army, this is going to help a lot.

Im just amazed on the amount of sallies are just now "comming out of the closet" all of a sudden... 🤣 oddly enough seems to match the same pattern that happen to iron hands about last year or so... and how impressive that was that a few months after the same "I just started playing IH because I love the faction" or "Ive been playing IH since Xed." crowd must have coordinated to all "forgot" their IH in the sun for a week, as the next time you seen them... the black has faded to yellow... only to get repainted again black because you know...they always have been playing raven guard and are just starting the hobbie and love the raven guard lore... just not even mentioning the amount of them that also liked grayblue and vikings and wolves since 2nd ed. Yes you can say that Im being a bit of a dickish by pointing it out... but you know... someone has to take a stand! And Im not a coward people pleaser to call them out in their bullshit!

MagralhoPT I legit just like the Salamanders, I’m just now getting into 40k and I like melta weapons, I also like the Salamanders’ attitude toward saving civilians and not screwing over guardsmen for a change. I’m sorry you don’t seem to understand that I just enjoy their mechanics and lore. Gatekeeping new players is never the way to grow a community, especially for someone who seems to love these two inch tall plastic miniatures so much.

As an 8 years-long BA player, Salamanders have always been my favourite chapter from the main codex just from aesthetic and lore purposes (only marines that give a damn about civilians) so it's awesome to see such a noble chapter take the spotlight :)

I got into 40k last summer and picked Salamanders to start with cause green is my favourite colour and marines are easy enough to paint. However, I got intimidated when it came to Space Marine list building and ended up going Tyranids instead

what about the chapter tactic with the ap -1? i've been told that they've fixed that because the armour of contempt overides it anyways, but i can't find where the update is.

They're also the friendliest chapter of space marines under their super proud dad Vulcan. Good boys.

watching this back, if you took a sallies tank biker captain and upgraded him to chapter master, giving him the CM specific relic, could you get a toughness 8 biker CM?

Have you done a video breaking down everything that happens when you build a successor army? I'm under the impression that you dont get to use the supplement codex whatsoever if you are a successor, but I've seen and heard a couple suggestions that this is not the case.

In my Salamanders codex it specifically says that Sallies successor chapters' librarians can take the Promethean discipline and the chapter gets the same tactics( +1 to wound with meltas and flamers etc.) They also have a list of relics that successors and Salamanders can take, and another list of relics that is JUST for Salamanders. I was impressed that they had laid it out so unambiguously. As far as other chapters go, YMMV.

I came here for some army building advice, since I have no idea where to go from here with my army. I have 1 redemptor dreadnought 1 Venerable dreadnought 7 firstborns (from a board game) 8 mark 4 marines 10 intercessors 10 reavers 10 hellblasters 1 Lieutenant with a shield 6 Assault Terminators 11-12 Assault intercessors. 3 inceptors 3 aggressors. 2 Chaplains. What should I sell and what should I get for my army? I feel like I don’t have enough Meltas and Flamers.

My usual opponent is using them and once he did 88 wounds in a turn but im still able to win half the games with my wolfs because of my speed and adaptability in my list.

I ain't gonna complain, our discord has grown remarkably well since this is happening :D

Do SM chapters still have their super doctrine in 9th? Ex: promeathean cult?

I had the misfortune of playing a salamander player who brought all contemper dreadnoughts.... his lord was one too..... I was Necrons and it was not fun especially when he used a strat to over watch with a guy I did not charge. Even tho I asked him if he had any ability to fight first or stop my charge....... after the round I just conceded

Dude I feel for you... we all get those imbeciles some days... best advice I could give you is... know the metas... take some time to learn what are the latest most powerful armies and their strategies... will take some time but not as much as to have a game of 2h full of frustration and having a bad time. As soon as you see them unboxing those units.... have a friendly chat... if they come out with some bullshit excuse, ask directly if, regardless of whats been said, their plan is to do a certain broken tactics and proceede to explain to them their tactics... If they are shocked that you know that, you can walk out as you just save yourself a good 2h of misery 🤣 If they say no, or try to find excuses, just make clear that, if that happens, you will automatically conceede and will leave the table and not playing them ever again. Maybe even mention to your friends to actively avoid him. And its not you being an asshole... its them being an asshole an you being assetive that there are limits on what you can take. Happy wargaming!

MagralhoPT thanks for the advice. I am pretty new and it was a casual game so I did not think he was gonna play “got ya” BS. I should have asked more questions you are 100% correct. Bad part is that is was on TTS ( tabletop simulator). So I really can’t warn anyone about him 😢. I will definitely be doing a quick Google search whenever I play a new faction now. I just felt like that would be cheating in a way to look up how to be a certain army or what stratagems certain factions use more often. Like I said I just started this like four months ago so I’m pretty new but I guess if that’s what you have to do to make sure you don’t waste an evening then that’s what I’ll have to do. Sucks but o well.

i started 40k with the 9th edition unfortunatly i couldn't get indomitus box so i bought the one just below and i choose salamanders cuz i liked the fluff and the look and the colors of the chapter i'll mainly play for fun but it's cool the choice i've made is good

More interested in other tabletop games than 40k but salamanders were always one of the factions id choose to start with, seeing all the vitriol online it seems like it might be a bad time to do so.

The meta will change, it always does.

When this video was released I was in an area where you could not leave your home. Now that the covid restrictions are lifted salamanders are terrible

Salamanders aren't any slower than other codex marines, they just need to be closer to the enemy to function

Strategic reserves is probably going to be changed or removed. Its too powerful to just be able to drop the most powerful shooting unit in the game right next to opponents.

Dont buy eradicators and agressors... or dont even do agressor bombs... no one likes that guy... Or do that and get fed up with the game after 2 weeks of roflstomp though everyone regardless of what they have or after 3 weeks of everyone knowing you and you cant find a game and everyone in your FLGS hates you... then either you move to another FGS nearby and the cycle repeats or you leave 40k and say its bad... And if you remain in the hobbie after that... 2 things will happen... sallies WILL be nerfed into oblivion and another chapter will be king... then lets see where your love for sallies will remain as high as it is right now 🤣

@@MagralhoPT thank you so for your advice mate im going to give up after a week or two i promised you that when I moved to my new place and had meet a group warhammer players who only played 40k they show me how to play and lore of the game is amazing so i brought my first sets and found my faction I liked in about a week i will have a few games with them even though they eventually get nerfed im not going to be that person who walks away from the game

I played salamanders all through 8th, it's nice to see them do well 9th ed. However, I don't want to be known as "that guy" for playing what is probably the strongest army in the game.

Let's be clear here when it comes to the upcoming codex, okay? Master Artisans is the (former) auto-include successor tactic that is getting nerfed, and OG Salamanders were caught in the crossfire. Not the other way around.

Definitely strong agree. We're not actually seeing a lot of *Salamanders* doing well in tournaments. We're seeing a lot of Successor-cheese. Though I'll be very happy if I'm correct and the 8th ed Salamander strategems go away when Codex Space Marine drops. They do have some really ridiculous strategems (which is part of the reason they're chosen for Successor-cheese).

@@sergeantindie8072 hoping they leave my Salamanders alone. Since primaris have hit, they've encouraged everything that isn't special weapons, and it's been pretty cool to run tac squads or triple flamer bikes when everyone else has intercessor mobs. They've buffed the weapons as AT mentioned, and eradicators are crazy undercosted. I think they need to sit around 170. They hit as hard as an Invictor (or harder) and are about as durable, for 50 points cheaper. Same as they did with Assault Cents.. Balance needs to come in the points.

My son's Salamander army is looking good.

It's the discount -1 to aromour and the free command point reroll ya get on every unit every time it shoots or fights to hit and wound and with terrain changes nearly always in cover so 2+ armour that discounts -1 and alot of armies dount have alot of -2 chaos struggle not alot of armour pen on ther guns and the sal strat that let's any other unit do over watch on ya and can then move 2d6 in to ya and the +1 to wound wich is way better than vets of long war as thats only infantry

The winning Salamanders lists aren't Salamanders. They're some sort of successor chapter that's tying the ridiculous Salamanders strategems with choose-your-own Chapter Tactics that are also probably dumb. You shouldn't be able to do that. If you want a Chapter's strategems, you should have to take their tactic. Now, having said all of that, Salamanders are still very strong on their own. Most of their strong strategems are straight up someone else's strategem, which is already quite strong, with something else stapled on to the side of it to make it even better. I also can't believe I'm not seeing more Adrax Agatone everywhere, that dude is crazy. He's Kor'sarro+ and functionally has 3 relics, the dude's an absolute beast and a steal for 140 points. Of course some of this probably wont be a problem in a month. I'm fairly certain most of the busted strategems are going away once Codex Space Marine drops. I'm sure Marines and Salamanders will still be strong post-Codex, but I don't think they'll be quite as strong as they are currently without those 8th ed strategems.

Most of the good stratagems come from the supplement which will still be compatible with 9th edition I think

Oh joy. I never got on the Iron Hands Band Wagon but I've been playing Salamanders successors since the codex dropped in 8th. Now because they have become the soup de jour GW will nerf them too. :(

I just got into the hobby right at the end of 8th. People laughed when I picked Sallies for just the lore and the paint scheme. Now as my fires burn, I spare no mercy and am set in my faith for the forge. Vulkan lives brothers!

I think the biggest nerf they could drop is an end to successor chapters as a whole. They are the crux upon which the most outrageous things happen.

I have over...last time i Checked 6000 points of Salamanders. When Primaris came out I accelerated my transistion to Nids. Now my #000000 Marines are FOTM and kicking ass. I'm still bitter Bloodangels tactical squads can get heavy flamers but my Salamanders couldn't.

After the wait for the supplement I was very disappointed. When 9th dropped my jaw did as it fixed a lot of the issues stopping things working. Things only look like there getting better with the flamer and melta changes. I would feel bad as no one wants to be "that guy" but hey I've owned my army for years and it's there time to shine. At least until the nerf hammer lands.

I bought a Salamanders army box back in 2000 when the third war for Armageddon campaign began. I liked the fluff around them. For almost 20 years they have been kind of ...meh. Now that they're good, I am not sure I want to bring them to table because many people now view them as OP. Of course, I don't have much of the primaris stuff, mostly vintage models.

Play what and who you want. Salamanders deserve to be top-tier after 20 years low/mid tier... It's not your fault that GW doesn't want to balance..

I’m confused. I thought that to run a successor chapter you had to choose the Inheritors of the primarch chapter tactic. Any help would be great.

As a long time salamander player im terrified we are gonna get hit harder than just losing our 1 hit re-roll per unit. i still think our doctrine is pretty weak all things considered, but i feel like most of the strength comes from eradicators being way to aggressively costed for what they do. Maybe add a requirement for them standing still or moving half / not advancing to use their ability plus a 50% point increase will bring them more in line. Also i feel like instead of nerfing the master artisans for salamanders, they should have just replaced it with the ignoring -1 ap weapons for successors since that ability has been a salamander thing for a long time.

No wonder a lot of people are looking for Salamanders.

I wish they buffed tau man
