I found my person in the comments. I recently made a salad for my family reunion with fresh corn, cherry tomatoes, avocado and sunflower seeds with avocado ranch and everyone loved it.

Yeah I will argue about the lawnmower part. I definitely prefer the lawnmower salad over the "every bite is a single ingredient" salad. Still love all of these lol

Could you give us maybe a standard "equation" for making salads so we can develop our own. You mention all of these different elements like dressings needing sweet and tart and salty, etc. and your broccoli salad having something sticky (dates) and nutty and caramelized. I would love to make my own salads based on what I find at the market.
