I love this piece, so full of fun and elegance

So psyched to learn this....

I keep a personal list of my most favorite piano concertos. At the top of the list are all 5 of Saint-Saens' piano concertos. In that I am not saying that they are better than say Rachmaninoff's 2nd, or other great works. I am saying that they don't get any better than those 5 concertos, though just as good. I just added this work to that list, though formally it is not a concerto. It has all the intensity that I look for in such works.

" très juste, très juste," cher Doug Bower, ... = you are right! I discovered Saint-Saens 3rd piano concerto, while living in... Cleveland OHIO, in 1976-78: and Saint-Saens has been ONE of my favourite composers from then... on... + his "Fantaisie Africaine" reflects soooo much, so well of that "esprit de l'Afrique du Nord, ses odeurs, épices, marchés, couleurs, dimensions, esprit, idées: all this, is jzst "fantastico... + incroyable... = Saint-Saens is a composer, one never can stop listening, also with diverse versions of same works... = bring sun in a grey, snowy, rainy.. day...! enjoy, notre ami Français..!

蜜蜂と遠雷　風間塵　プログラムで、どんな曲なのか知りたくなりました。なるほど、雄大。キリマンジェロの麓、ビクトリア湖の畔を飛ぶフラミンゴの群れが目に浮かんできます。

Of course, in this relatively short fantasia for piano and orchestra, we must have evocations of North Africa But we must recognize that they do not invade the score, Saint-Saens remains faithful to his policy of reserve in his style.
