Sailor Alex In Dakar Senegal | Where I Go To Get My Boat Fixed In West Africa | Season 6 | Episode 7
#solosailing #offgrid #livingfree
One of the main reasons I came back to Dakar Senegal was to get my sails repaired and more. I do not have the budget to simply order new sails. Here people don’t just replace things, they fix things. I was impressed by Diego the sailmaker's professionalism and savoir faire. Diego has decades of experience, the materials and a family to feed. As well, I like to see and feel where my modest earnings go to. My philosophy is to do what I do best and let others do what they do best. Me I sail, travel and make videos. And meet people as you will see in this episode.

Loved it Alex. Makes me want to visit Senegal. As a Brit living in SW France I think I find Senegalese French easier to understand.😊

Ahaha. My maternal language is French, and sometimes I have a hard time understanding them . Especially the Parisians if they speak fast

$600 to repair? How much to replace? $2,000, $3,000, more? 🤔 Mads would have just replaced both the stove and sail. I think you made a wiser choice. You da man Alex!

Well, congrats on repairing your sail and stove. When will you go exploring west Africa? I know you’re comfortable in your island home, but I really enjoy watching you go into new places and explain about the culture. Safe travels.

Is Mindelo safe?

Yes, for the most part. Although things have gotten different as of late. Petty theft and some drug related territorial disputes. I personally feel safe. There are not many guns here and the police is pretty laid back
