Sailing with the ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Evo electric outboard!
Hi again!
So cool to be hooked up with ePropulsion wich has provided me with their awesome electric outboard engine. And this thing is powerful for its size..!
Im bringing this with me on my ongoing sailing adventure to the Hebrides and the island of St.Kilda.

There wasn't any rough idea of the price for us "normies". What do these things cost?
I have this very same motor and it is incredible. Once, in a storm, it went overboard in a marina and was submerged for 12 hours at a depth of 3 meters. We spotted it the next day, picked it up with the hook and it worked (and still does work) without problems.
we love ours, especially how quiet it runs
This made me smile... happy days...
You’re looking well, Erik. Hope your voyage to the Hebrides goes smoothly. 👍🌬️🌊

Loving it mate 👍 I think Silje is really getting into it, fast learner with the tiller says a man who has had more than a number of newbies steering while getting the mainsail up and ending up pointing downwind 😂
Wow, that's very good battery time, much more than I expected.
Looks a nifty lil craft.... Eric must be ori in his videos. Like perfection and he always leaves a mystical chant of yesterday - like his one hand always holds onto heaven
I have an Epropulsion Spirit too and its awesome! I use it as the main motor for several keelboats. Never tried it on a dinghy.
Love you two! ❤
Thank you Erik, love your videos. So glad you now have an electric outboard. That’s a good looking first mate you have there. 😉
I had both this exact motor for 2 years now and also a Torqueedo and frankly, love the build of the eProp model, sturdiness ( metal fitting instead of plastic) floatability of battery and info given on the display. I do have to say that torqueedo has a 915 WH battery with a lot of power but had too many issues with the 2 plastic interconnects at random time. playing with a dysfunctional connector in a rush time is no better than cranking a stubborn 4 stroke gas engine... happy you liked it!
Siljes is still talking to you after Greece.....amazing!😀
Excellent demonstration. I just love the silence of it!
Very cool piece of equipment Erik. Look well made. Looking forward to seeing it in action and seeing how she holds up over the long haul. Nate
Awseome video as always. Thanks for the walk through
Enjoy your trip to the Hebrides, it's a great place. In the UK we call it the kill cord, not the dead man's switch but our train drivers do have a dead man's handle that we stop the train if the driver let's go of it.
very exciting, new stuff always is! looks proper good quality.
We will be purchasing an ePropulsion soon. So much better for the environment and hassle free. Great video. Keep them coming. Tak.
We too have an ePropulsion (on our small sailboat) and LOVE its lack of GAS :), reliability, speed, ease of use and QUIET. It is perfection. Out gunkholing recently the wind picked up alarmingly fast but the ePropulsion cut right through the chop and got us out of the bay and back into the protected creek with speed :) When we first read about it and called around, the designated MidAtlantic sellers were not well educated or were more interested in those lined up in their shop to buy bait. That’s when we found Luis at SkyBlu Adventures in St Augustine, FL. , who even sent us an extra anode. He knew ALL about the different models and has provided us killer customer support. Our entire experience has been A+++ Loving this motor. Hope millions sell, it’s great for the environment!!! Wonderful video. Really shows how easy it is from opening box to use.
I was there a month ago! Sailing from Bergen to Stavanger. Hope I meet you someday somewhere on the water! Save waters!
Never thought that would be an option. Very nice, learned something today.
Great vid Erik; thanks!
I look forward to see how your Hebrides adventure goes. These islands are an unfulfilled bucket list item for me. Good luck! 👊

What a beautiful location to test the e motor. Cheers both
Really sweet motor. Pretty good speed
I have the same ePropulsion outboard on my dinghy. We love it, works great and very easy to use!
Silje certainly brings a certain spark to your contant my man- keep up the great work :)
Lovely film, thank you. Have just bought one of these, although yet to use it myself.....
That thing is cool! Crazy to have such little noise
My father used an electric outboard on his canoe for when he became tired of paddling. It worked well for him. Hopefully this device will work well for you.
It seems a very good product.
Electric out boards are lovely. Silent for wild life if nipping in and out of coves. Charge off the wind or solar, no more petrol cans aboard.

I have to admit using just paddles instead of a noisy motor makes the world of difference to how close you get to the wildlife. I'm looking to fit one in my kayak that I can swap to my tender. The only time I was glad of a powerful petrol motor was when rescuing a large sea turtle caught in fishing gear and an anchor chain.
EXCELENTE FELICITACIONES !!!!! UN GRAN SALUDO DESDE ARGENTINA CAPITAN !!!!! BUENOS VIENTOS !!!
Welcome home...❤❤❤ *2
Erik, you are are single-handed sailor....that is what sets you apart for me, rest is technique....
Funnily enough I was looking at that exact system last night and it's very impressive. What I like most is how light the whole thing is - no more trying to haul a 90 lb outboard over the rail! It can also be recharged from a folding solar panel. Pair this up with an Oceanvolt saildrive instead of a diesel motor and just imagine how much self-sufficiency you gain. I know Silje has gotten some mixed reviews from the hardcore sailors but I think she adds a real dash of character and spice to your videos and I hope we see more of her in the future (you'll love the North Sea in winter Silje, trust me😃) Looking forward to the Hebrides trip Erik.

The oceanvolt saildrives are awesome and cost about double the price of a diesel. Given Tessie is a €40,000 boat it might be over capitalising to put a €46,000 motor in it.The installation and infrastructure would be anything but cheap. If building from new and doing weekly races around the cans. It would be economical because there aren't the 100 hour services and all the other diesel issues. I would seriously consider it. However the insurance companies are getting very twitchy about lithium batteries now. I had to have my boat surveyed to ensure that I didn't have them at my last renewal.
@johnnewman8412

@@philgray3443 Very good points and in actuality my comment regarding Oceanvolt was geared more toward installing the system in a new build rather than attempting a retrofit. Understanding of the nuances of lithium ion phosphate battery technology, especially in the insurance industry, is at a developmental stage and we can only hope that the insurers get up to speed quickly on what sort of systems, for which type of use pose any sort of risk.
Wicked nice!
Great little bit of kit, not huge range in them going by the company website but with the option to charge them onboard and using one for mucking about in your tender it could be an option I'll look into.
I live in Karelia. Not very far from you! When I decided to buy a motor for my boat, I also chose an electric one! Quiet, odorless. a regular starter battery lasts for two days of fishing. I prefer casting spinning fishing. From Russia with love! Hello everyone
Thanks to my Norwegian B1 level, I think I heard the word FAEN! in the Greek dinghy. 😂A while ago I seen a video about the damage pollution from Jet Skis were doing to a bay at a tourist beach, so it will be great if all small watercraft switch to electric with no pollution going into the water. (I also watched another great documentary recently about a big yacht builder who makes them powered by electric, and they are becoming popular with the rich yacht buyers.) Sails and electric will make our seas much cleaner!

It does seem to have the advantage of not needing an oil change, but gasoline seems to have so much more energy density (which could be important, I suppose... if your dinghy is also your lifeboat).

She's a keeper! 😉
Silje's a perfect sailor - she already has the swearing sorted! Herregud! :D
I have the same Epropulsion Spirit, and even powered my previous 22ft sailboat with it! It was great for on the lake! (reached 5 knots in dead calm weather on the lake). But now I have a bigger sailboat with Yanmar diesel, however I kept the Epropulsion Spirit for a dinghy! BTW, @erikaanderaa you can also charge it with a 12V charger, may be more efficient on the boat!
Gostei muito. Grande abraço.
Great on flat no tide water , push a tide , waves , differant
Hi Erik its Jenson, It was nice to meet you tonight in Fraserburgh with my dad Iain.
Dead man? I believe its called a kill switch. Subscribed Cheers
Hey Erik have the same engine and it is excellent. I have been followed along the river, just a few meters behind, by a seal, which would never happen with petrol. I was not as brave as you and I’ve never dropped my battery in the water, but it’s good to know it would be okay!
Erik... I Just mounted my ePropulsion 6.0 Pod Drive on my Tartan 27... sealing the unit to the hull today. Too funny of a coincidence.😅 I will be putting the video on my page in a day or so.
Watch out bold viking….the naughty ghost is coming…from his epic journey to lofoten and nordkapp,he is heading your direction, and will be soon in haugesund. Eta next week said, first week off august.
I bought an ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Evo 2.5yrs ago. I loved it for the usual reasons but recently I’ve had problems with frequent error messages and cut outs. Last week it died totally when the battery was still 50% full. I was 2km from my boat and I had to row for 45mins against wind & tide to get back. I have now returned it to the dealer for repair. Meanwhile, I have put my trusty backup Yamaha o/b back on the dinghy. So please be aware even electric outboards like ePropulsion are not 100% reliable and they can let you down like any other outboard.

Fantastic vid E, think you may get back-up batteries?
Should be using a kill cord on the petrol outboard😢....but a great unbiased info video on the motor
Great Video ! It's a Motor not an engine ! 😆
nice, but i just revived my 2stroke dingymotor...the carburetor was clogged...it must still work for some time until i can retire it
FYI this outboard is $4250 AUD ($2720 USD / $2500 EUR) with the battery and tiller control as shown (not including the wrist band)
What dinghy is it? Seems very small and good for a sailboat

Good video Erik. That dingy seemed at little to small with 2 people. Bringing supplies from or to your boat with 2 people on the dingy will be awkward. Is it possible to increase size of dingy with the EV motor. I understand the Hebrides water's have current and not always calm and that to may effect the small dinghies safety and lack of usefulness. Have a great sail and I am sure you have already decided by your next video .

My dinghy is perfect for me alone, and it fits on deck while sailing around. Its mainly to get from anchorage to shore, short way. If Silje is joining we will need a bigger dinghy☺️
I have been quizzzing lots of people on electric outboards as I am thinking of changing from petrol. Everyone says the same thing, Epropulsion are by far better than the Torqueedo and I believe the cheaper of the two. Yet to take the plunge. I do wonder on the longevity of the electrical cable connectors in such a hard (and salty) environment!
@iainmacdonald1170
11 ай бұрын
I've used mine extensively the past 3 seasons and the cables still look like new. However, we store the battery down below when not in use and although the leg/attached handle live on a bracket on the pushpit we put a cover over them to guard against UV light. Other great advantages is that you don't have to go hunting around for petrol which can be quite hard in some ports these days. We love the fact that you can easily take the battery and leg off making the tender so much lighter to carry it up a beach. The ability to explore a beautiful spot without the noise and smell of a petrol engine has to be experienced to be fully appreciated. Together with the 'Ewincher' electrical winch handle its been the best investment we've made to keep us sailing as we've got older.
Hey hey Erik & Silje... I've been looking at an all electric dinghy and motor for some time for my all electric sloop... thanks much for the demo... BTW: when is Tess going all electric...? Quit messin' with Silje or she will get the moniker: Herre Gud Silje... Laff... Fair Winds...
