Sailing to D'urville Island Close to Rocks and Sea Arches in the Marlborough Sounds of New Zealand

Episode 359 : Season 11 : The South Island of New Zealand - Aotearoa
Hello Friends,
On this episode we depart Pelorus Sound bound for D'Urville Island on a flat calm day. We enjoyed a glassy passage through Stephens Pass and made our way into Port Hardy. Later in the day we went exploring in the dingy and found amazing wooded area at the head of the sound.

Great footage guys. See what we have down here. No snakes, bears or other nasties. Safe to walk barefoot. Probably would have left a baited line over the side of Tritea while ashore. If you don't catch anything, so be it. But in spots like that, there's a good chance of scoring a blue cod or two. Depending on the number of hooks you have. Just do them in a pan of garlic butter, with pepper. Awesome!! Again, thank you yet again for another awesome episode. Cheers. Take care.

In one or two areas there used to be wild pigs.. but they take their native species protection seriously so they control the population...of anything that threatens ground nesting birds. When the first Maoris arrived it was home to one of the world's largest eagles .. capable of attacking a human...and some of the world's largest flightless birds. Today the biggest menace is the Kia ..high altitude Alpine parrots ...clowns with razor sharp bills that like dismantling things like car trim for fun ..but they do have a slightly darker side when their normal food sources get covered in Snow. They can attack sheep but they would have originally attacked the giant Moa's before they were hunted down by the Maori...and their eggs destroyed by their escaped pigs. 🪝🧙🏼‍♂️
