Thank you Richard. We were just talking about how both our views have changed on passages and think nothing of 3 days at sea now. Kates confidence has come on leaps and bounds this season and she’s loving it 😊😊

Last two episodes have just been lovely. Felt like you were given some great days as a reward for all you hard work (and years of public service) to in make your adventure happen! Loveing the music as well & Ian’s pipe (what was that) playing… I think he’s trying to be a one man band who can recreate Bravehearts thematic score!

Hi Matt….yes that was a nice sail. Even though we were going really slowly at times it was so nice not to be on a deadline. The whistle i played is a carbon fibre whistle but with bagpipe finger positions so I can play any of my bagpipe tunes on it. Will have to keep working on the Braveheart score! That tune was called “Dark Island” 😊⛵️

Aaah, we have the same plates and foldable drying up dishes bowl thing, good to know/ see them in action….we must’ve purchased something right so far 😂🎉

That foldable drainer is a game changer! 😂😂 Ours is starting to fall apart after 2 years hard labour but we’ll get another as soon as we can! Did you find it strange with the plates at first where they look like china but sound like plastic? We did 😂😂😂

Perhaps the best episode (so far!) Comments on the necessary bureaucracy most useful and ‘Kate’s culinary corner’ most interesting. Empathise hugely about the variability of the wind; we’ve been debating buying a Parasailor to enable a greater range of sailable angles without resorting so much to the ‘iron topsail’ but haven’t made our minds up yet. BTW, who made your arch? We’ve engaged LatBros and I seem to recall you went up near Hayling Island where they’re based.

Thanks Iain. Really appreciate the feedback. Neither of us thought anyone would be particularly interested in the galley but both times we've done it now we had great feedback. Likewise with the formalities info. As for wind variability it really is so hard in the Med to trust the foreacast. The different models often don't agree. We do have a cruising chute as you know but rarely hoist it as its quite a job and we simply can't rely on the wind remaining constant long enough to justify it... or maybe we're just a bit lazy?! Anyway our arch was indeed made by Latbros. You can see the guys fitting it in our prequel episode 0.5 right back at the start. Very rough editing compared to these days but interesting/scary putting a fin keel yacht into a mud berth at Hayling Island for the guys to help us fit it. Anyway we were delighted with the service and workmanship of Latbros. They always phoned when they said they would, stuck to their schedule and did a great job. Cheers for now. Iain

@@FollowIntrepidBear Thanks for that; Latbros have made a good start but it'll be fitted Gosport as I don't fancy sinking @@@s deep in the mud with a saildrive...! Getting a G-0 on a bottom-up furler for a decent price from Kemp Sails that they swear we'll use most of the time. All the very best to you both.

Just breaking in a new reed at the moment Bill and it sounds awful but as soon as I can I will see what I can do. You told me you were planning to be around at least until Christmas... has that changed? Need to know how long I got to sort this reed out!

Clearly you enjoy sailing but what would be your thoughts about the concept of a full solar/electric mono hull in the summer Med. A boat such as yours could easily fit a 7-8 Kw solar array "roof". If mated to a decent 100 KwHr battery say you could have a comfortable 100 mile per day 4Kt boat. No sails. Plenty of power at anchor for air con, water makers and other appliances plus recharging for the next hop. All the news in this area is about multi million pound catamarans from Silent Yachts and the like but the cheaper/smaller mono hull option is also very interesting.

You might be surprised…I, Iain, am not actually a super fan of sailing especially in the med where the winds are so changeable! The idea of a solar boat is an interesting one. It’s not something we could afford to retrofit as it would cost thousands and, personally, I’d still want a back up for those cloudy days which do happen even in the Med. I always want two forms of propulsion eg 2 x diesels or 1 x diesel and sails so maybe primarily electric power but with a small generator back up? Also, in some areas of north Europe in winter Solar just wouldn’t give enough power so that would be an issue too. It’s a great idea but there are technical aspects to overcome and it certainly wouldn’t be cheap to retrofit to an existing boat like ours…it’s good to consider alternatives though 👍🏻😊

Yes all good points. It would be a niche option off course for those who just want to 4 Knot coastal cruise and island hop around the Aegean Sea say with a decent daily range. As for price you would be surprised. Lynch motors and mountings are cheap as are solar panels these days. The real driver for me is the second hand market in "used" EV batteries which really makes the idea interesting, especially on price. More a case of a vessel rebuild without the need to buy diesel engine, masts, sails and rigging. Companies like Ocean volt are charging exorbitant prices for motors, batteries and panels which conditions many to think it is not so feasible for the regular Joe. It's not the case. Having 40 KwHr's available daily from sunshine ay anchor also allows the comforts of home onboard for free.
