It's fun to look back now in 2019 to see you both walk through your boat for the first time in 2016. It's obvious Nikki loves the boat.

I am missing the happiness you guys share so freely so much I started watching your Vlogs from the beginning again. Your whole attitude to life is adorable, I can just imagine someone asking "where is Nikki" and Jason saying "oh, playing with the curtains"! Speaking from the perspective of an old Police Officer you, are as sharp as a scalpel Nikki. When Kent was doing his presentations, you studied his expressions with exceptional intensity and read him like a book, as a business person you are undoubtedly as tough as woodpecker lips! As we say in Australia "there are no flies on you" and that Jason so obviously counts his blessings is a great relief. I love, your boat, it was a sensational find! All the best to you both.

+aidan conneely unless your at some exclusive marina, most boats sit there and go unused. Most likely those boat owners don't even live in the city that marina is in. They live up north, thought it would be a good idea to own a boat and used it a couple of times a year. Now they just sit there.

aidan conneely not at all did not mean to imply that. I simply meant most boats don't get used to their fullest. They get used a couple of times a year. Boats and their systems are meant to be used. Fluids need to be circulated, engines ran, etc. If not you'll spend more time working in your boat than being out on the water.

Wynns if you ever get a content drought, making a "reaction video" on this round tour of the boat you later spent many many days on. Could be pretty interesting, reflecting on your first reaction of the boat and how you've grown as boatowners.

Wow. It is amazing how many people on the internet pipe up to tell you what you can't do. are their dangers? Sure. I have no time for people complaining about what you don't know instead taking the same time to help educate you and make you better at something you are bloodywell doing anyway. Haters gonna hate. If I listened to everyone who told me I couldn't do something, I would be working at a dead end job and never learning anything new. Maybe there is just jealousy that they only are open to one tack in life. Keep on sailing guys! Everyday you learn something new. Everyday you read more about sailing and learn from the school of life. The first sailors had no idea how to sail either. We have countless years of sailing experience and a huge knowledge base to pass on info. See you on the water next year!

+Scott Faulk I have seen very little unwarranted negative but a lot of reality. Lots of people are giving advice based on their own life experiences and that is very valuable. It is a huge jump from not even owning a boat to living and sailing full time. The sea is not often your friend. I have lived within walking distance of the sea my entire life, never lived on a boat though. I would be very cautious of this path. Not saying to not go that way, just that the more they know the better.

My wife and I have been researching boats for almost 3 years. I have spoken to over a dozen boat owners, dock masters and enthusiasts and I can only advise this. Please don't rush this process, there is sooooooo much to learn and sooooo much that can go wrong. If something goes wrong in the middle of the ocean it could be the death of you. GL to you both and thank you dearly for your RV videos, you guys are amazing. Just to say it again, I really don't feel like a transatlantic crossing with out ample experience is something anyone should jump into head first.

BOAT = Break Out Another Thousand ($$). Before I bought my RV, I had a Boat which I kept in Annapolis MD. Boats require a lot of Maintenance. Salt Water and Wind cause Havoc. The rule of thumb, annual maintenance runs approximately 10% of the cont of the boat.

The condition and cleanliness of the Leopard is amazing for being 11 years old. And it has all the equipment (lightly used) that you would have to spend more money on if you bought something cheaper. Generators, watermakers, air conditioners, lithium batteries, washer dryer, etc are not cheap. Also a recent survey (per the listing on Yachtworld) and a recent survey. Owners from Canada too so the US dollar exchange might help you buy it for less. Offer $275K and see what happens!

You guys are absolutely on the right track. You'll NAIL it if you find a Lagoon or a Leopard owners version. Lagoon 410's are great, but don't buy a hybrid if you run into one of them. More problems than benefits. You might consider a Leopard 40 possibly if you can find an owners version, maybe a little smaller than you might like, but their laid out VERY nicely in Leopard fashion, and the $$'s are less. The 44 owners however, is to die for. (both of these, I mean of the same vintage as your looking for.) (You might just find a 44 for the same/or less than a 43 by the way. Also, remember this is another leg of your wonderful adventure, meaning, don't limit yourself to "local" cats, the very perfect one for you may be lying in the Carib, or in Texas, or in the Med. What's the worst thing that can happen? ... a week in Greece? ... TWO weeks in Fiji? Well worth it to find that treasure. The American & the British Virgin's are FULL of cats, many of them for sale. Many "away form the main selling market" boats take longer to sell and have less of a potential audience so that perfect boat might be had for WAY less than a Miami or a Lauderdale boat, and that airline ticket to Greece just got more affordable than you thought.Bringing a boat across the atlantic or even the Pacific if necessary, for newbee's is a piece of cake. Not really, but it's truly doable. There are experienced crew (you find them on crew available/wanted websites and interview them) everywhere, just looking for a ride. People capable of helping you sail and teach you a hell of a lot on a journey like that. Like they say, the rush is in the getting, not the having, so don't be too much of a hurry to end what may be one of the biggest "getting's" of your lives.

+Rick Martin I am also slightly nervous about their sailing knowledge. I live about as far away from the ocean as you can get and even I know to call things cabins, heads, rigging, lines, etc. A charter is a cheaper way to learn all this stuff before you drop a couple thousand g's on something that you have no idea how to use.

+FromThe Prairies $300k is a lot to drop on something they know nothing about. When they try to resell their boat they aren't going to get their money back. I did a charter and started off with a much lower investment for my first boat. I have never heard of someone who starting out on a 40+ foot catamaran as their first boat. I'm not saying it can't be done but there is a reason its not done that way.

Just love you guys, true adventurous spirit. Never lose that! It's obvious that you're new to saling, and that's cool... But, why would you want a multihull as your first liveaboard? Have you truly done your homework? As a lifetime small boat sailor I highly recommend leaning to sail proficiently before making such a huge life changing decision, not knocking cats at all as I used to race them back in the eighties. I do love them. I just think that a ketch or sloop would be a better choice for long range live aboard adventures.Spend some time with a couple old salts before buying. Happy sailing!

When I saw the bar, I thought, "Yep, that is Nikki & Jason's catamaran, for sure!!!" You might as well join the rest of America and get a .... L O A N. At least, it is not as bad of interest rate as a house.

Why not consider monohulls? Cats are 'in' right now so you pay a huge premium. You can get a huge monohull in your price range. Something like a 50 foot Beneteau or Jeanneau would have just as much space and you can find a lot of them in your price range (or below!). You could even look at Amels. You get sooo much more boat for your money with a monohull.

Ugh, what a learning curve vs. an RV! The maintenance alone looks intimidating, let alone operating the thing. But how gorgeous was that first boat? You two are no doubt in for a great adventure. Can't wait to watch ( from the comfort of home). : )

There are lots of people here saying its a bad idea, I dont like to be like them, so I'll say this: its a good idea in terms of experience, it will be memorable, its a good idea because there will be less "regulation", etc... HOWEVER you have to consider the following: 1) You're in the market for a Catamaran, they cost more for a good reason, and the ongoing expenses will be more: a- insurance on boats in general is HUGE, not to mention a $300K Cat b- fuel, because they're not as easy to sail as monohulls, hence why the high engine hours (1700 would be considered a LOT on a regular sailboat). c- maintenance costs are almost double as you have 2 hulls to maintain plus a larger superstructure d- boat maintenance is not as cheap as RV maintenance at all... you may spend $5k to fully upkeep an RV in excellent condition, you'll need $20-30K for a Cat if you're planning on traveling extensively like you guys are, that's assuming that its smooth sailing (pun intended). could put you in financial ruin if things go bad. e- on an RV you have warranty for things that go wrong, be it in the RV or in the appliances, on a boat you dont, at least not at the price range you're looking at (which is already above your budget). f- I assume you guys are debt free which is awesome... on a boat you'll have multiple debts, not because every boat owner does, but because you guys have a budget and the lifestyle you're looking for is way above that budget, if you look at couples who own sailboats and are living on the cheap, its because they've done a lot of the labor work themselves, and they still take time out of sailing to travel back and work for half of the year to afford to keep doing this, and they're on a 30something foot monohull sailboat. you need deeper pockets, and if you start loving sailing and you're in debt at this age, it may become hard for you to sustain the lifestyle you want. maybe keep RV'ing a little more in other countries like Canada or Australia (which I have done a bit of and its amazing), and then 3-4 years from now when you have a substantial amount of money, you can safely go onto sailing cats. 2) Handling issues: a- Catamarans are more stable, sure. but they are larger than their length suggests, there will be days in the water where you guys will be sea-sick or just land-sick (where you just want to see some land), and on those days handling anything is annoying, let alone walking across the hulls to do these chores, there will be more of them on a Cat. b- as someone below mentioned, you always have to make sure that you can handle the vessel by YOURSELF (either one of you) in case one of you is really sick. c- this is not land, in the water you cannot stop by the side of the road and wait for some passer by to help out or call a tow- truck, on the water you'll have to be a mechanic, a fiberglass worker, and an electrics expert (which is dangerous since you're in the water and you cannot take liberties). d- cleaning cats is a nightmare due to the size of them, they're all over the place, in an RV you have one long line and things are to the side of this line, some can argue that a sailboat is also like that, a Cat though, you have a lot of areas to cover, being in the water means that things can and will get messy more often than on land. e- a Cat is great because it gives you space, however docking them is hard, so can anchoring them (it can be the easiest thing or the hardest, depending on the water and the bottom). anchoring and docking is not going to be an everyday thing, so you can ignore that bit, however sailing them in different wind conditions is not as easy as it is on a sailboat, and with minimal experience that you guys have, this could mean that you're going to rely a lot on the engine, or maybe damage something (God-forbid). Finally, I took this time to write this because your channel is great, and I want to see you guys continuing posting good educational stuff, I worry that if you guys stress your budgets and bite more than you can chew, we may lose a good youtube channel. YOU GUYS CAN DO IT, everyone can do anything they set their minds to, its not about if you can or cant do it, its about timing it right, and I feel that its too risky for you guys to jump in a Catamaran this year. consider going to Canada, Alaska, Hawaii on your RV, or even sell it and do an RV tour of Australia. Brokers are people just like us, they're nice and try to make a living, however part of that is to sell you a boat, because they invested their time with you, a lot will be honest with you about things, but they may not point out all the possible negatives that you're running up against, because its NOT their job to deter you from buying what you want. They're not the ones who will be with you paying the debt or the ones with you scrubbing the floors, their job is to get a sale done while making you happy about it, and you guys are enthusiastic like anyone else who wants to buy a boat of any kind. Consider it more. Peace and Love from Dubai Some Random Muslim Arab guy on the internets =P

Great video! I am on a very similar journey as you, I am going for the new Lagoon 42 (just released) and have spent many months searching for the best cat. I live in the UK and have found out that I can buy from europe but will not have to pay the VAT providing I do not sail in european waters so will be sailing in the Caribbean. I have done a very little sailing and like you learning all the time but thought that newer boat would probably be better in the long run. Can't wait to see how you get on!
