Saidane's Fast CHIBA Process. Part 1 - Mixing

#cyanotype #CHIBA #dichromate
A faster CHIBA alternative photography process. In this video we'll mix the sensitizer, add a color, coat a sized paper, expose to a UV light, and develop a picture.
Required materials:
1) Ammonium Iron Oxalate
2) Luthier hide glue
3) Citric Acid (Oxalic Acid should work too)
4) 0.3% solution of Hydrogen Peroxide (0,3 in metric)
5) Distilled water

this is a totally killer result! and I'm thinking this is a permanent process.

Thank you, the process is similar to the gum dichromate/bichromate but safer.

LOL 0.3% in metric! Im using a metric screen to watch. Thanks for all the demos I'm learning a lot.

@@saidanehabib they promised me America would be on metric by 1967... good news- the Hydrogen Peroxide here is 3 percent.

This is incredible! Can you share your glue to water ratio? I seem to be missing that information.

Thank you so much, I kind of eyeballed it, for the glue I put like one part of glue and 2 to 3 parts of distilled water. I believe it can be diluted much more. I have to run more experiments and I'll share the findings soon.

Thank you, it's a mix of lamp black powder, gum Arabic, a bit of isopropyl alcohol, and a drop of honey. You can use watercolor paint tubes

would this work with already mixed hide glue? also, do you have a bloom rating on the hide glue you are using? I was looking up some glues and the bloom rating will affect how long the glue is workabel.

The original formula is supposed to use fish glue, I couldn't find any, so I tried Titebond hide glue and it worked. Already mixed hide glue should work with no problem. Make sure to thin it with distilled water, also after you add the Oxalate and before adding the color that the PH is around 3 and 5. I didn't pay attention about the bloom, I checked now it says 280 gr. strength.

@@saidanehabibI've been trying to replicate this and so far I've found that I got hard water of very high pH like 9, that my paper also had high pH buffer and that gelatin sizing needs to be hardened and that it must be worked at the various temperatures. I've had very little success with carbon transfer in general including Chiba. But I'm not giving up. Specially now that I have actually seen an image come out right before it washed away. So I'm so close to getting it all to work, I can feel it. You make it look so simple! I'm trying also to make this work with a protector. The projector works with cyanotype so I hope to make it work with Chiba and normal carbon transfer.

@@saidanehabibanyway I used gluteraldehyde to harden my sizing. That made me feel so accomplished 😂. I learned that I can get a lifetime supply of gluteraldehyde from a hospital use germicidal liquid called metricide 14. Just don't add the activator. It's amazing. If at all it turns gelatin into reusable silicone. You can still melt it in the microwave but it has to be hotter.

@@aomanchutube A projector should work the same way in CHIBA. The best way for sizing is to use Gamblin PVA size or similar diluted to 50% with distilled water. You absolutely need to acidify the sensitizer to produce results, citric or oxalic acid in powder form is your best friend. This method needs only 1/3 of the usual exposure time (CHIBA or Cyanotype).Good luck and let us know.
