En los años 50 yo vivía muy cerca de la Sagrada Familia, cuando el templo sólo constaba de las cuatro torres que enmarcan la fachada septentrional y nada más. Abierta a los cuatro vientos, prácticamente abandonada, y sin ninguna vigilancia, los crios del barrio la hacíamos nuestra y subíamos a las torres por las escaleras de caracol, pasando de una a otra sin que nadie nos dijera absolutament nada. Era un maravilloso lugar para nuestros juegos, lleno de lugares ocultos y recovecos. Recuerdo que esparcidas por el suelo había una gran cantidad de piedras esculpidas dejadas ahí por los artesanos que las habían trabajado hasta el último dia de su labor. Este estado de cosas era debido a la falta de recursos de los años de la posguerra civil - años 40 - y del desinterés del Régimen de Franco por una obra debida al genio y a la perseverancia de Antoni Gaudí, un arquitecto y hombre de fe, de profundasconvicciones catalanistas. Todo eso cambió a partir de la década de los años 60 cuando empezaron a llegar turistas a Cataluña y a Barcelona y los poderes públicos se dieron cuenta del potencial negocio que se abría ante ellos. Y ha sido la explotació turística del monumento la que ha permitido a lo largo de los últimos 60 años que el templo haya podido ser construido hasta alcanzar su estado actual. Así que, auténticamente gaudiniano sólo lo son las cuatro torres y la fachada que mencionaba al principio, más el edificio de la escuela que se encuentro junto a la calle de Provença.

I went to Spain in the 80's. We had a chance to visit Barcelona and see the church. They have added a lot to it. It's breath taking in person.

A unique cathedral in the world. When I got out of the subway, and I found it in front of me I did not imagine it was so impressive. His enormous greatness. A magnificent masterpiece in every detail. I believe Gaudí was one of the greatest architects in the world. I recommend everyone to go and see this wonderful and unique cathedral where you can see magnificent sculptures everywhere. I hope I can go back to admire it.👍👍😍🙏❤️

Gaudi was a very humble man. He is not responsable of this aberration. If you want to see exquisite sculptures, travel to Chartres. if you want to see a masterpiece , travel to Sainte Chapelle in Paris. If you want to see real ,honest touching beauty, travel to Leon.. Do not be fooled for Sagrada Familia fireworks.

It is not a cathedral , the locals get upset when it is called a cathedral ......it is called "The temple of the holy family ".

The Sagrada Familia is absolutely stunning. My hubby and I are currently in Barcelona for a few weeks and every time we've visited this city over the years seeing and spending time inside this beautiful cathedral is always a highlight, especially seeing it in the early evening as the sun is setting, pure perfection and it makes for lovely photos. It really is architecture at it's most breathtaking. Gaudi was a genius and Barcelona is a city of loveliness for sure 🙏💖
