youre getting warm,.... correct procedure is to losen pitman adj. then tighten torrington spanner to 30 ft. lbs, then back it off 1/2",.. then very slowly (and gently) tighten pitman adjuster until a slight drag is felt turning steering shaft,.. then tighten pitman locknut. ASE MASTER

This adjustment should be made with a torque wrench on the input shaft. But close enough.

Thanks for sharing that. I saw a lot of people tightening the allen key bolt. I tried that too and it seemed to help a little, but some people saying that's not enough or the wrong way. Some others pointed out the other adjustment that needs to be made but no one showed how to do it. I've just got a 2003 workhorse p42 old USPS van. Similar to the P30. ALmost bought an '87 p30. How's your steering on that now? is that hand adjustment on that bolt like thing enough? I took a screenshot of those directions.

Quick question after you did your main adjustment on the box? You went back down to tighten up the nut Did you tighten up the pin where the Allen ranch goes clockwise and then lock the nut down.

It held up well we used it to drive from Missouri to Alaska and it is still holding well

We have not done another adjustment it has held

So 822 views in 2 years of someone attempting to do this properly. What? Just watched a different vid with like 70,000 views where they just cranked down the worm adjuster and never even mentioned the bearing preload. Why? Because nobody wants to do stuff well I guess.

Wrong. You’re only adjusting half of the box, improperly.
